- I just got the new Sladder climbing system. Check out my climb and initial thoughts.
**I kept calling the stirrups "spurs." Please use the terms interchangably.
I am a paying customer. This is an excellent product. More videos to come. Check out the sladder@ www.grayskwere....
Great video, I switch from a one stick to this last season. Love it. One thing you may want to try that I started doing is, when I reach hunting height I climb to the top of the stirrups set my platform at hunting height. I then put the Sladder on the opposite side of the tree at the same level as the platform. I can then utilize the 2 stirrups like ring steps.
Nice. I will certainly try that. I haven't hunted with this thing yet but am looking forward to it
Hardcore one sticker here but decided to get a Sladder because I had my rope pop out of the cam cleat recently. Fortunately, only one move up but that was enough to spook me even with climbing on my repel line. Still working out the kinks but definitely feel more secure between moves! Good job brother! New Sub!!!
It seems to me that you spend a lot of time with just your arms holding you in the tree as you raise your tether. Am I right? Spooky stuff for me.
Just reading some of the comments saying it looks like to much work. But I think your microphone is set up in such a way that it picks up to much of your breathing and it makes it sound like your really exerting yourself, but the calmness of your voice is very relaxed telling a different story. Good review interesting product. Thanks.
Yeah man..HD mic on the GoPro..😁
Thanks for watching my friend.
I like your responses to many folks who maybe need to learn tact, if you will. Snarky comments and you deflect then well without conceding.
Ok now do it in the dark with rubber boots and cold weather clothing.
No darky until October. But yeah...I've been one-sticking for years. And those ARE my normal hunting boots. Thank you for the passive aggression. Happy hunting.
Ever heard of a headlamp?
@@randobot6814 make a video in the dark and post it . Let’s is how easy it is.
Did you remove the stock inner fenders/ wheel well? How do you keep dirt and mud off the upper part of the chassis?
Very carefully
Would be better with a set of the hunters push sticks. Trust me!
Can you provide a link to a good video on these? The one I found was blurry and very difficult to follow. Thank you for the tip.
I think my old a-- will keep useing sticks and ladder stands. Tht looks like a young flexible guy rig. Not knocking it at all looks like it works
Don't blame ya sir. Ladder stands are great if ya got good spots for em. Happy hunting.
Does it work well going up a tree with a few branches? Seems like it might as long as you are using the tether rather than a linesman's belt?
Yes, very much so. This is one more benefit that I didn't think to mention.
I have to turn my foot sideways to get in the stirrup. Then I struggle to get it out of the stirrup. Even with just tennis shoes.
I mean, I had to finesse a little bit, but nothing to write home about. I'm rockin size 13's. HBU?
Size 11. I think my loops are made too small.
what is that thing you used to repel and the brand? Im new to this stuff
It's a Madrock Safeguard
Maaaan im almost sold. Im definitely in the market for sticks, but this may be the way to go. Is repelling down the only way to get down?? Couidnt i just do the same thing just in reverse?? Ive never one sticked before
I mean, you could. But rappelling is the best way down IMO. If you use a rescue figure 8 in conjunction with a third hand autoblock, the descent is actually annoyingly slow and uneventful, even for my 220 lb ass! Happy to answer any more questions.
That looks like a giant pain in the ass
As opposed to??
As opposed to a regular tree climbing stand! By the time you are 15ft up you will be covered in sweat!
@Duhaubetahiks have you ever tried saddle hunting? It'll change your entire outlook on hunting. Truly. Not to be a dick... but I've encountered many folks who knock saddle hunting having never tried it. You can always tell because they claim that dated climbers are somehow superior to modern methods.
And no way man. I can climb 20+ feet up a tree in less than.5 minutes, having exerted much less energy than a climber. And having only carried 5 lbs lbs of gear into the woods, as opposed to your 20-30 lb climber. Your sweating before you even get to the tree.
If hunting off the ground, the only thing easier/ lighter than saddle hunting are permanent positions, ladder stands, etc.
Agreed
It is, very dangerous too.
Have you one sticked before? If so would you say using the sladder is easier or harder than one sticking?
I'm curious about this too.
I've one-sticked a lot. I like this better. I'm doing another video on this, as well.
Sounds good. I'm currently one sticking and like it overall. Actually I'm kinda doing a hybrid. One sticking with one X2 stick and hunting with the XOP Cold world with my saddle and love it . But this looks good also
Hell yeah brother!
@@tomnolan2186 one sticking was definitely easier for me as this has a bit of a learning curve. But I like this a lot better overall
Just get a throw ball and swt that tether line over a branch. Still keep all your gear in those 2 pouches and be in the tree twice as fast with half the effort.
Yo. Yeah, I started off my saddle hunting career as a roper. Then I had a humbling experience, which made me realize that I prefer being attached to the trunk at all times while off the ground.
@@DrizzyD670 I do tree work, roping in is what works for me. You can still run a lineman lanyard and be roped in. Cheers and climb high stay safe
I have a jx3 and I could just use the stirrups as my platform
Indeed you could. Are those JX3's as comfortable as they look?
@@DrizzyD670
Super comfortable
Absolutely @@DrizzyD670
And they say people don’t like to work anymore
Probably want to invest in hooks from 3d genesis to help you advance the tether up the tree to prevent any chance of trapping your fingers in case you slip. Otherwise, interesting alternative to a one stick.
Thank you kindly. Would you mind sharing a link to these hooks?
@@DrizzyD670th-cam.com/video/Y9izGf_Wy3c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4SpqLsCLpXCBUBqy
Google Genesis 3d printing tether assist hooks
For some reason, YT won't let me share links.
@@tsavxaj7335gotta love it. Lol.
Drake , what kind of decender are you using ??
It's a madrock safeguard.
More power to you, but I’d hunt from the ground exclusively before I’d deal with something like this to hunt from a tree.
Congratulations friend. This is a tool designed mainly for mobility and versatility, while keeping weight to a bare min. Certainly not the only tool in the box, but a great tool for many jobs.
Good video
Glad you enjoyed
I'll just stick with my 30 user old climbing stand... looks life a ton of rope, etc. If have already been set up... and your still climbing and messing around with the fabric ladder.. doesn't look simple or quiet.
@chrisbender9361 By all means. Difference is, I can go up any tree. Climbers are restricted to powerpoles. And it's actually quite stealthy. Oh...and I can shoot 360°. This modern fabric ladder will hold 6,000 lbs of weight. Technology has come a long way.
To each their own. I just shot a video to help the world see this innovative new product in action, becuase I'm very impressed.
Of course, I'm also a dedicated saddle hunter. I get how seeing this product might not be the best intro to saddle hunting. If you've never tried it, there's an excellent video highlighting the pros and cons from NextStepOutdoors.

Spurs.... stirrups
Do it on a wet tree no edit
I've no doubt that'll happen during hunting season.
I'll pass, but thanks for sharing
@@Mark.Brandenburg no prob dude. Happy hunting.
take long time to climbing tree
It did. But please keep in mind, this was my very first time ever climbing with this tool. Since then, I've really refined my process and can get up a tree and setup to hunt in about 10 minutes, 15 if taking my time.
That’s has to be one of the worst climbing contraptions and methods I’ve ever seen.
The earliest evidence of humans using ladders for climbing is like 10,000 years old...jussayin buddy.
Anywho, thank you for your productive remarks, and happy hunting. 😬
no, way to much work
@@luckynorm100 then don't.
@@luckynorm100 It really isn’t much work at all. That being said i think it needs some tweaks. I need to climb with mine more.
