Great video! I’m replacing this right now on my r56. Did you have any issues with re inserting the eccentric shaft actuator? We are having an issue with it not fitting back in correctly

I can't picture the r56 actuator motor, if its like the bmw you use a 4mm Allen in the back to spin the actuator motor into place

Great video, I need a question answered if i may, I have a 2009 base cooper, non s model, No compression on cyl 1. Engine has a rattle when running, Have looked and valves are not broken, bent? maybe? Could a failure in the vvl cause a valve to stick open? And would it make noise. just about to pull the head, it appears to have a burnt valve, but that doesnt explain the rattle? any help would be apprectiated. Also if you pull the spark plugs out there is no rattle? crazy i know . thanks

I had an exhaust valve replaced and I have already put the head back on. I used the flywheel tool to get the pistons lined up to put timing chain in. Is there only one alignment hole in that flywheel? Just paranoid about having it in the right place. Pistons are same height although #1 may be 1/8” or so higher

Yeah only one alignment hole in the flywheel that the pin will fit into, turn the engine over by hand before firing it up but I’m sure you will be good

Hi ya mate, great video. Thank you. I've recently completed a head rebuild for my daughter on her 2007 Clubman with N12 engine. I have 1 issue since rebuild coming back as diagnostic code 2861 DME Valvetronic, eccentric shaft sensor plausibility. When starting the car, it has a loud tapping/ticking noise. It drives spot on though! Now the only way i can get rid of the noise is by removing the code with my Foxwell NT550 Elite computer and then unplugging the eccentric motor. The engine has had oil and flush twice, have replaced vanos cam sprockets, vanos solenoids, camshaft sensors, eccentric shaft sensor, new seals on pretty mucg 3ver6thing onthe engine except for nottom end. Just cannot seem to solve this one issue. I have of course reset adaptives, etc. Any information would be amazing thank you. Richard UK.

I don’t think I have seen exactly what you are dealing with on that model but in the past on some bmw I’ve seen the teeth of the eccentric shaft get messed up and don’t move freely, I haven’t seen it in a mini yet but it’s a similar kind of thing

@@EuropeanAutoRepair i replace it with brand new one cuz when i bought that car it wouldnt start and the owner of thar told me was the valvetronic motor so i bought one so i got it start but im not sure how much time you have turn that thing on back of that motor to really line things up with the engine i dont know what im saying ahaha

Ok yeah I know what you mean, it’s not really a matter of turning that allen other then just to install and remove it, it kind of adjusts itself, you could try to reset basic settings and adapt it but usually there isn’t much too it, what year and model?

Can you describe how to align the eccentric shaft? I should have marked it before removing it from the worm gear motor😅

The eccentric shaft motor that you access externally is removed?

The most nonsense system ever - extremely frustrating to build back up.
