After hearing that Ironwood placed several people who were a threat to him, including the 2 girls who got her to think "Hey, Ironwood really does mean well" under arrest. And had declared Martial Law.
Why on earth would she "talk it out" with him?
Brian brush you know, I hadn’t thought about that. This is a perfect example in which everyone was in the wrong for the right reasons. Clover was just following orders because he believes In Ironwood, qrow tries to play the neutral party and changes his tune when he seems that his nieces are being treated like criminals, and Robyn, who knows better than to just blindly trust someone, which is why he has that semblance

yo I just realized: Weiss so far always tried summoning her familiars out in the open, and she's always been punished for it. She knows this, she's learned from it, and created a mist to hide her so she can safely summon her knight

Marrow also can't fight 2v1 but he was still wanted to arrest Weiss not kill her hare on the other hand was going out for the kill sadly she fought a plot armor girl
Marrow and vine were the only ones who were trying to arrest them. The other two were more or less out for blood

Arnold, if you watch the battle again, you'll see Qrow was trying to avoid fighting Clover during the fight. But Clover kept targeting Qrow instead of Tyrion, and hence Qrow was forced to fight back.
And why he decided to team up with a criminal. Goddammit Clover. They could have beaten Tyrian if Clover wasn't so headstrong about his orders -_-
This. I've seen a lot of people blame Qrow for teaming up with Tyrion, but Qrow kept trying to attack Tyrion and Clover kept stopping him.
Exactly. Qrow didn't trust Tyrian let alone want to team up with him. It was just that Clover left him with no other options. In order for Qrow to have the best chance for stopping Tyrian once and for all, Qrow knew that they would have to at least take out Clover first (incapacitate, not necessarily kill) in order for that to happen.

@@bloodwolfgaming9269 In his defense, Clover is a skilled and competent fighter. He probably thought he could handle both of them. So he focused on the biggest threat, Qrow.

It wasn't even the fact he was framed, it's the fact that Qrow's decision killed Clover, his own weapon killed Clover. That's going to leave mental scars, he might relapse back into drinking.

It really wasnt his choice though, he TRIED to focus on Tyrian, but Clover was the one who kept pulling him back into the fight against him
I agree and think it was both their decisions. Clover not trusting Qrow and Qrow siding with Tyrian.
Though I don't see it as Qrow's fault. I think Clover could have been killed with Tyrian's own weapon. Tyrian is just a manipulative bastard who used the one weapon that was lying around to kill an ally and rubbing it in the other ally's face that it was their fault.
@UCG6V3aBjEn6Uvfjtes1VyEg He did try to team up with Clover; or, at least ignore him until Tyrion was taken care of. Clover didn't give him a choice. Was it dumb to team up with a psychopath? Hell yeah. Was it dumb to continue trying to arrest your friend while there is a psychopath who could kill both of you? Hell yeah. Both are at fault, but.... I think Clover really just killed himself. Robyn needs help and Tyrion is loose, but orders to detain Qrow is more important?
It's hard to say what would've happened if Qrow still refused to team up with Tyrion. It very well could've been Qrow who died. It's hard to guess. What I can say is that Clover made choices that got him killed. Forcing a fight in the airship and then continuing to force one while in the presence of a psycho.

I remember someone mentioning on a forum (maybe Reddit) that each of the Ace Ops failures mirrors the original fable's morals.
Clover's lack of patience in focusing on his current orders lead to his defeat.
Harriet's overconfidence and lack of humility lead to her chasing Ruby around instead of supporting her team mates.
Vine and Elm's lack of support lost to Ynag and Blake's teamwork.
And Marrow's lack of decisiveness lead to him using his semblance too little too late.
Or something to that extent.

Ruby is a good character but she's underwhelming as a main character, she talks big but can't do anything without her deus ex machina power.

It really is a sad to me that so many people miss the entire part of how Qrow tried multiple times to take on Tyrian over Clover but Clover kept focusing on a Qrow and not even thinking about fighting Tyrian. Qrow could not take on two people at once so he ultimately made a deal with the devil just to get the fight over as fast as possible.

It’s also Qrows bad luck. He didn’t want Clover to die, and once he and Tyrian teamed up the only bad luck possible was Clovers death. Obviously not blaming Qrow for that, I think it’s interesting how the potential balances or imbalances of their semblances work, and how they interacted when Tyrian was in the mix.
Still I dont think Qrow should've done that if he didn't actually want to kill Clover. I mean he literally teamed up with a serial killer and then he's shocked that Clover gets killed by him. Like how did he not see that coming? Tho I'm sure we can all agree that Qrow should've just transformed into a bird and then this situation wouldn't have happened lol

They were so divided on what they actually want to do with team RWBY and how to do that...they beat themselves in a way.

Robin will know Qrow's truth because of her Semblance. Or could, depending on if they write that in.
Depends on if she wakes up in time, or how the Atlas authorities treat her. After all, she was part of an opposition/rebellion against Altas, and only after it was revealed how Jacques' rigged the election that she was accepted into the fold. However, due to Ironwood's current mental/emotional state, she could find herself right back on the opposite side of the law (especially since she was in the transport that was supposed to bring in Tirian).
Hell, Qrow might blame himself so much for Clover's death that her Semblance will say that Qrow indeed killed Clover
@@exploertm8738 I think even if he says he killed Clover her semblance would know it was a lie. But if Qrow said he punched Clover that's why his aura disappeared and Tyrrion killed him. I don't think Ironwood would care or anyone else. Because technically he did help Tyrrion kill Clover even if that wasn't really his intentions at all.
@@exploertm8738 Robyn's Semblance reacts to the whole truth or the whole lie of things. Qrow might blame himself, but stating the TRUTH that Tirian was the one that killed Clover will be sussed out by Robyn's semblance. The whole key here is that you cannot lie or utter false information while Robyn's semblance is active.
They probably won't trust her alibi
I think what made Clover's death even sadder than his final words was when the light left Clover's eyes, becoming dull with no reflection

I was reading a lot of comments saying "why'd qrow fight with tyrion?" But in the beginning when Tyrion escaped, Qrow tries to stop him and Clover targets Qrow instead of Tyrion. I think this same scenario happens twice or three times before Qrow actually starts fighting with Tyrion vs Clover. Seems to me that Clover forced Qrow to team up with Tyrion
Michael Chow 1: Clover making it a 3 way fight doesn’t make sense but I’m willing to forgive it for the rule of cool cus a 3 way fight is awesome, but 2: Qrow siding with a serial killer that follows Salem is just stupid. It doesn’t make sense, and Clover attacking him too doesn’t justify it. It was so infuriating to watch for me and I’m not the only one who feels that way
@@Dragon11730 Qrow twice went for Tyrian first but Clover just kept targetting Qrow. If he fought against both Clover and Tyrian at once, he'd have no energy left to fight Tyrian and get killed.
It was Clover's fault to target a friend instead of a SERIAL KILLER first.

@@Dragon11730 It was super irritating to watch for me too. I just wanted clover to help take down Tyrion and then make up with Qrow. But Clover never seemed to just target Tyrion. He only defended himself against him. He did however target Qrow over Tyrion twice though. Thats just how I interpreted it. I wish it would've stayed a 3 way fight too, it was so hype.

@@TheTsuyuki Nope, Ironwood is also to blame, pinning Qrow and Clover together when they haven't even brought Tyrian to jail yet, that was stupid. As if Qrow would just sit back and let Ironwood do whatever he wants, he wanted to just reason with Clover so he could talk to Ironwood but clover insisted on arresting him. There are A lot of factors that go into this, not just one person.

Everyone was already on edge from everything that happened before and this just made a few people break, what happened with clover was precisely because he followed orders to the fullest.
Compare how many times he went on offensive against qrow and tyrian (blocking doesn't count) and notice the Insane difference.

With such aims in mind it should be ruby that gets the short end of the stick, not death but a change of heart perhaps or even loss of will.

@@gabs5738 Your question about Qrow has been answered in this comment line. Clover left him with no other choice. Qrow was clearly focusing on Tyrian more than he was on Clover that entire fight. Even when Tyrian suggested they team up, Qrow was still going after Tyrain. But every time, Clover would attack/stop Qrow. Qrow ultimately knew that in order for him to put an end to Tyrian once and for all, Clover would have to be out of the fight (not necessarily dead...just incapacitated.) So, in the end, it was Clover's unwavering "follow orders" attitude that forced Qrow to make that tough decision to team up with Tyrian.

anyone feel like when Qrow cried over Clover he saw Summer in his place as he remembered her death as well
Qrow stated earlier in the volume that he genuinely has no idea what happened to Summer because she in his own words, went on a "Summer secret" misson. Qrow was never with her because he has no idea what happened to her, and Ozpin himself didn't know about rhe misson either

Ruby's right. The ACE Ops work well TOGETHER that's how they were assembled but they let their solo training slack. Meanwhile the RWBY squad just had to make the trek across Remnant solo, before coming back together AND THEN get trained in synchronicity by the ACE Ops.
Clover, Qrow and Tyrian are all at fault. Neither Qrow or Clover wanted to concede a little, they each wanted things their way; and Tyrian played them off each other.
While that's true, Qrow was willing to go to Atlas with Clover before Robyn started shooting and everything went sideways.

He was trying to talk Clover down, but we all saw how intent Clover was to follow his new orders; that might be why Robyn was so quick to act - she knew he was more likely to just follow orders than listen to reason.

How so? Marrow's Semblance appears to only be able to be projected in 1 direction. He can effect multiple targets if they are all in front of him or in one area. When he was fighting Weiss, he stopped Weiss but her Summon was still active which seems to be able to act somewhat indepently form the summoner's will to some extent. So Marrow then turned away from Weiss to stop her Summon. This took his focus off of Weiss and allowed her to move once again.
In a way she wins 2 for finishing off hare. This is fucking history right here

Also I’ve been pondering something. Semblances are special abilities for specific people. Like we’ve seen, some are hereditary, and others are confirmed during harsh conditions or randomly even. Mercury’s was even taken from him. But is it possible to have more than one? Given that it’s a “personal power” and depends on each user, is it possible to develop another one? Or even change yours currently? For example, if Jaune practiced enough, could he use magnetic forces like Pyrrah since her aura unlocked his? Could Qrow’s bad luck turn good if he only believed it is? If he dropped his cynicism, would he be one step closer to turning his luck around?
That reminds me of a theory I had a while back. That Qrow's semblance was simply the alteration of local probability to either extreme. If he simply got of the drink, and reigned in his depression as best he could, he could theoretically also effect luck in his favour, and not just t9 his detriment.
I agree except it's probably not that easy. Aura is the projection of the soul, so you'd have to change yourself as a person to change your semblance.
This reminds me of a thought that i had a few days ago. Since ozpin is a combination of hundreds of different souls, would it be possible for him to also have hundreds of different semblances? Or would he just have a single semblance that is passed on to every new incarnation of him?

And Pablo, I don't think Ozpin has a semblance of his own, due to still possessing his magic. I feel as if he likely simply has the semblance of his host.
Just a little idea, but early on in the series they talk about semblance. I think it was ren, but someone said something along the lines of "semblances may he based off of the person's personality, or maybe they shape someone's personality" So there could be the chance that you could forge your own semblance, or even change it

TLDR: The action in this episode is the best kind of action: the kind that tells a story.
With the Ace-Ops unanimously siding with Ironwood, they're acting as an extension of his beliefs and influence. Their fight with Team RWBY is a fight of blind allegiance to authoritarianism and cruelty in the name of "good" vs Team RWBY's more humanitarian and altruistic ideals. The result is a battle where the former ideology gets its ass kicked. You see this in the way the Ace-Ops belittle and bicker with each other, contrasted with the bonds of affection and absolute trust of Team RWBY.
-My favorite scene in the episode is when Blake and Yang take out Vine and you see the reaction from the other Ace-Ops, realizing that they've really underestimated their opponents.
-The fight with Qrow, Tyrian and Clover continues the themes of the other fight but takes them to a darker extreme. The entire battle hinges on Clover's decision to follow orders and treat Qrow as an enemy instead of dealing with Tyrian first. A crucial decision that ends up costing him his life.
- While flawed in execution (Clover always felt a bit undercooked as a character to me), what makes the tragedy of the moment work is how this affects Qrow. With Clover, he had a source of real support and friendship pretty much devoid of any toxic masculinity. This death still matters because of how much he meant to Qrow and the potential repercussions this could have on him. I hope that this pays off in Volume 8 as we continue to see Qrow struggle with his poor self-image of being bad luck to his friends and loved ones vs using the advice he received from Clover to become a better man while giving Ruby and friends the guidance they need.
-This death also continues the trend of the show treating certain supporting characters less like their own self-sustaining, well-rounded characters and more like plot devices, sources of (for a lack of a better word) support for the evolution/progression/development of our main roster of characters (mainly Team RWBY, their friends, and several villains). I don’t consider this a criticism of RWBY, just a neutral observation.
-Side-bar: I kinda dig the angle of treating Tyrian not just as a recurring enemy, but a full-blown nemesis for Qrow.
-So far, it seems like this volume is going to use Winter and Penny to explore a murkier side of these themes. We're beginning to see a payoff to that scene at Schnee manor that contrasts their characters: Penny is a robot that believes in following your heart, Winter is a human who believes in behaving as in control of your emotions as possible. While they're still going through with orders, they're both clearly uncomfortable with the decisions they're making, though we'll see how all of this works out in the finale...
-I love how Penny and Ruby are these super wholesome characters who get sassy when they're mad.
Qrow is still in the wrong, even more so than Clover, for temporarily siding with Tyrian, and there's no way around that.

I agree about Clover being used as a plot device, but I think his overall character was used much better than say, Vernal. With Clover we got much more character interaction and depth. Whereas Vernal was just the decoy loyal to Raven.

In an equally neutral observation... that's life. People we hardly know have their own characters, their own existences, but to our perspective they may be merely mentors or obstacles used to further our own development into who we might become. There is a definite, and defined, limitation to focusing the show on what happens around this main cast of eight-or-nine protagonists - those who are around them are not necessarily going to get all the time "they deserve". Because we can't tell every story at once, can't look at everyone within the same time.
I mean, you can try, like the "Wheel of Time" and "A Song of Ice and Fire" series; so many characters, so little space.

If Clover had been willing to put the arrest aside HE could have worked with Qrow to defeat Tyrian. Qrow wouldn't stand down because he knew Clover would immediately arrest him despite the fact that Ironwood's plan would kill innocent people.
If anything, it's on Clover more than Qrow.

I blame the 3 of 'em for being too distracted by learning they couldn't trust each other *that they forgot about the likes of Tyrion......EVEN AFTER HE CRASHED THE PLANE THEY WERE ON.* Clover could only see Qrow. Robin Hill could only see Ironwood through Clover. Even Qrow could only see Clover. Tyrion simply jumped on that. The 3 of them really dropped the ball...Hopefully Qrow and Hill will be more worried about Salem's forces over Ironwood no longer being an ally than the other-freakin' way around (Like this time) in Season 8....

Just came here to say the finale is nuts but it also made me feel like this show needs longer volumes... But yeah this volume as a whole is just crazy good and I recommend not trying to compare previous volumes too much because they can't be compared since this show has evolved so much and I'm so mad I missed out on the start of RWBY and only found out about it when Volume 5 had ended... Same goes with RvB, I had heard of it but never watched it until after it ended

Marrow's Semblance isn't one at a time; we saw that at the rally. It's whoever is in his line of sight and he never got both Weiss and the Arma Gigas(?) in his line of sight.
Exactly. Weiss was smart and kept herself and the Gigas separated so Marrow's Semblance couldn't effect both of them at the same time, and that was ultimately his downfall.

I just want to point out that Clover owes Ironwood everything, so he follow orders completely. He was told Qrow is wanted, and so is Tyrian, so he's fighting them both. Since Tyrian was recently beaten, his aura is lower and I assume Clover prioritized Qrow as the immediate threat. Qrow naturally is fighting both, Tyrian because of their grudge and Clover since he won't let Qrow leave. Tyrian just loves chaos. Qrow only teamed with Tyrian because he want's to knock out Clover and then actually kill Tyrian. He doesn't plan for what happens, but he's been betrayed and isn't exactly thinking straight.
As the audience, we have glimpses into things the characters don't, so we can say "Stop fighting and solve this at Atlas. Don't just follow orders!" but that's us, not them. The characters all think they're in the right, so they are fighting to win. We just simply see the bigger picture.
(Also I'm constantly curious how Arnold's neighbor's don't think he's dying once a week thirteen weeks a year when the episodes come out. Those screams are really loud)

If you watch the fight you can tell Qrow tried to fight on Clover’s side at first. He only “teamed up” with Tyrian after Clover kept attacking him. It’s not his fault; it’s Clover’s.

Is that really necessary Toez? Why is he a "fanboy" for telling the truth? Watch the fight closely. Qrow was very clearly trying to fight Tyrian, even after Tyrian first suggested they team up against Clover. Clover, on the other hand, continued to attack Qrow. Qrow knew that with Clover at least incapacitated (not necessarily dead) that he would have the best chance for taking out Tyrian for good. Qrow didn't trust or even want to side with Tyrian. It was just that Clover's determination to simply "follow orders" left Qrow with no other choice. Was it stupid for Qrow to team up with Tyrian? Absolutely. But in the end, Clover left him with no other options and therefore Clover brought his own death upon himself.

Abandoning Mantle, and ruining the chance of the satellite, all in the name of self preservation. He's already given up and believes nobody can stop Salem. That's not a good person.

From a realistic perspective he is making the right choice. Just because it is the right choice doesn't make it good, but with team RWBY stabbing him in the back multiple times and his forces being exhausted there is nothing left for him to do unless you want a whole lot of people to die.

Still I'm not daying RWBY have been good to Ironwood. And I don't blame Ironwood for acting how he is. But that doesn't make him better than Ironwood, in the end Ironwood cracked under the pressure, fight to protect everyone. Or flee and hope you can do something whilst Salem massacres EVERYONE. With or without the relic Ironwood is serving Remnant up, in exchange for Atlas.
RWBY want to actually try and stand up to Salem, whether that'd the "correct" choice or not isn't the issue , the point is they're trying to stop her. Ironwood is trying to run away, which is what it all boils down to. Doing this is fleeing, and abusing his power, he isn't going to save Remnant, he refuses to help them by sticking with the Amity Project, he knows he can't beat Salem, and he knows that if he leaves there will be NO ONE who can stand in her way.
That's not a good choice.

I think saying this undermines all of Qrow's efforts. I do understand that Clover did have his own contribution, but saying that Clover single-handedly "rehabilitated" Qrow undermines Qrow's story arc thus far.
I do believe that Clover's death and Qrow's hand in it will surely affect Qrow. But sending him off the wagon and going further deep in the abyss would be too unfortunate and not be a good route narratively IMO. It is powerful and all that, but it's too... predictable..?
I just had too much of "self-loathing Qrow", and receiving a much more potent dose of that is not ideal. It would be "boring". I'd rather have a man who struggles with his depression yet still tries hard to fight it. Using Clover's death to maintain his focus and achieve his goal - avenge Clover by killing Ironwood. Going off the wagon once of twice is acceptable at this point, but going full blown drunk and having a "pity-party"? That's absurd and not entertaining.

For those complaining about Team RWBY beating the AseOps you're forgetting a few key points. The AseOps were overconfident in their strength, they lacked the teamwork RWBY possessed. Yes, the AseOps could work well with each other against single opponents. But RWBY has had more experience fighting multiple opponents as a team. ( Volume 5 should have done a better job portraying this). More importantly I think Clover was what held the team together. Without his leadership and "luck" the AseOps were simply a group of powerful individuals who couldn't even agree how to proceed during the fight.
Man, that opening... That was really heartfelt, man. Thank you for that. I feel people get too caught up in things and we all need things to become more simple again. :) So thank you, so so much for that opening, made me tear up a little.
