  • 1997 4th Gen Fbody Trans Am Junkyard Find. Well I didn't think I'd run into another 4th gen Trans Am in the junkyard so soon. And much less one with a factory ram air hood. But yet here it was. And let me say that this one was in pretty good shape that i'd drive it as is. The body was in nice shape with T-tops and the interior wasn't that bad either. Was it a WS6? lets check it out and see what the rpo codes say.

      The reason for that is because these cars are unibody cars. So when they are neglected the undercarriage gets rusted out so there's no frame to replace. People take them to the junkyard. Mainly V6s you dont see V8s sitting there unless they have a blown engine and the underbody is fucked.

    • @Impactjunky
      @Impactjunky 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@thehellbird8946 No it's just because people have literally no clue what really is fixable so they take perfectly good project cars to the crusher for just a couple hundred dollars worth of meth money. I do body and restoration work for a living and I know as good as any professional what is worth saving. I'm currently in the process of saving a unibody 73 Rustang with almost no floor pans left at all. I've even put a floor patch in a rusted out 4th gen Camaro for a customer before. Floor rust is nothing to real car guys, it's just a lame excuse to part out and scrap a good project.

    That is not an SLP WS6. The rpo sticker would say WS6. WS9 is just a Trans Am. Also the door sticker for tire size will say 275/40/17 except for 97 convertibles which only came with 16" wheels. I have a 96 WS6 #93 from SLP.
    The hood does appear to be from a real WS6 but the car definitely is not.

    the actual code for that option package would be on that RPO
    code list in this case it's not. years back owners would slap on
    a ram air hood and badging to
    a non ram air trans am or formula and try to "pass it off"

    The "Y83" is the 4th gen Trans Am merchandising package and the "LT1" is of course the 5.7 liter VIN code "P" 350 V8. Model code shown in the corner of "2FS87" means 2 for Pontiac, FS for Firebird, 87 for two door plainback. A Trans Am is the 2FS87 plus the Y83 code to make it a Trans Am. Years back, the cowl tag (as in the Trans Ams I own) would have WS4 on them (that was the RPO code for Trans Am back in the day).

      @@ClassicRideSociety I was at a yard near me a few years ago, and I saw a 97 Camaro, had the SS badges, the hood, the spoiler, I thought for sure it was a clone, since it was sitting there for a month before i went over to check it out, couldnt imagine my surprise when i lifted the hood and saw "MADE IN CANADA" I though holy sh** this is an OEM hood, I checked the VIN codes are sure enough, it was real, so I snagged the hood, airbox and spoiler, all for $175.

    It is absolutely horrible this got crushed . i would have bought it. You can always take the VIN number to the dmv and get a title for it. Those seats were perfect pontiac leather. Everything about it was nice. Deffo woulda saved it. Thats a rare model. Its sad people keep putting pontiacs in junkyards when they can ALL be fixed. Given that pontiac doesnt exist anymore stupid people should stop ruining pontiac cars and throwing them away. :/
