  • Here is my take on the 4th gen GM F-Body cars. These are one of the best sports cars you can buy now. Are they Low Quality cheap feeling cars? Yup... And thats why I LOVE them!

    I've owned fourth gen Firebirds for 23 years and currently have 4. One is a true daily driver. They aren't perfect , but I absolutely love them. Thanks for the video.

      @@Dat1214 my 2002 Formula with 17,000 miles is driven to two big Pontiac car shows and spends the rest of the time hibernating in the garage. My 1999 ws6 TA is my primary show car. My 2001 Formula is a driver when it's nice out, but it does need some work. My 1998 red v6 Firebird is my daily driver.

    Such a great looking ride. They look fast sitting still. New cars can't replicate that.
    So sad that GM shuttered Pontiac but, kept Buick. Ugh!
    Corvettes from the same period are great bargains too.

      China Buick sales during the time the recession happened is the main reason that Pontiac got the axe despite having the most performance promise.

    spent $13,500 to secure my 2002 WS6 with only 38k miles back in 2016. today it's Hagerty insured $35k and it's still the love of my life. the way the market is heading, according to sites like bring a trailer, these Birds will be fetching no less than $50k soon... not that I'll ever sell 😎

    I own a completely stock red 1998 W68 Y87 t-top Firebird. It's been garage kept since built. I'm the 3rd owner and I purchased it from a middle aged couple who kept it in a climate controlled garage for 20+ years. There's not a spot of rust anywhere on or under the car. The chrome rims and gray leather interior, including dash and door panels are unbelievably flawless. It looks like it was built yesterday. They only drove the car on nice summer days. When I bought it, the guy told me they put maybe 2,000 miles on it in the past 5 years.
    I'm honestly glad I decided to look for a lower mileage, well maintained V6 Firebird, rather than spend a ton of money on a high mileage, abused Trans Am. I didn't expect to find a Y87 Firebird though. The Y87 is a performance package. The car has a Trans Am rack, Trans Am suspension, air damn, LSD, posi, dual exhaust and 10 speaker monsoon radio. It's loaded. All it would need is two more pistons to be a TA. My car turns so many heads and gets tons of compliments. In the first month of owning it I got two offers, more than what I payed for it. 98-02 Firebirds are gorgeous.

      I had a black 1998 W68 t-top Firebird. Traded it and $2800 for a black 1998 t-top Trans Am. They both had about 95,000 miles. I was happy with the extra horsepower and rear wing. 5 years with the V6 and 9 years with the V8. Total purchase price $14,000 then had to sell it for $5,200 in 2016. Pretty reliable cars. Got a low miles 09 Challenger SRT8 which is nice, but the TA was more fun to drive.

    • @firebird5288
      @firebird5288 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chewy98ta28 yeah, no doubt the extra horsepower and large wing is awesome, but now these days people want $20k for a TA with 130,000 miles on it. I just can't justify that kind of money for those miles and usually in rough condition. I used to own a 96 TA from 2005 to 2010. I'll have a TA again...98-02 WS.6. But I won't lie, I'm pretty content with my 98 bird.

    Own the same exact car in red, t tops 6spd 21k on the odometer, and I’ll tell ya I get more looks driving it than any other muscle care I’ve owned. It’s a corvette with back seats for my little guy. Best of both worlds. And yes very comfy to drive around town for fun and go on a cruise for absolutely no reason lol, and they r very much appreciating in value. A nice clean one with a clean title is around 30k here in ct. thanks for the video!

      I had a 2000 firebird in high school and an 09 Z06 that I owned for ten years till I sold it for 30k in 2019….so I can’t justify paying anywhere close to what I let my Vette go for! (Sold it right before the market got hot)

    I've owned a 4 speed t-top formula for about 11 years. Cammed, ported heads, valvetrain upgrades. It's on c5 wheels for now to help with traction. In the neighborhood of 500 hp at 89k with a fresh transmission rebuild. I used to enjoy the car stock, but now OMG. It's firebird version 1.60 if it was a computer update. Extremely mod-able. I will keep mine forever, i named my son after the car (Fenyx) and the car after my son, 3rd brakelight says (Phoenix)

    I own a 98 non WS6. Fisher Price interior but that's not why I bought it. Same with the rear end that shouldn't have ever been installed in a 3rd, let alone 4th Gen fbody. I bought it to modify. Second owner. Not a garage queen I can't take it with me when I die. It gets driven when the weather is nice every damn day. Made improvements over stock. Sad to see a newer classic restricted to being a garage queen that is never unlocked to their true potential but to each their own. Mine is worth less than a garage queen but I'm putting it through the paces and making it a better version of what the factory intended with the robust aftermarket.
    Never gave a care about Barrett Jackson viewpoint it's toxic.

    I bought a 2000 Pontiac Firebird Base for $2000. I have done so much work to this thing already. it was in terrible shape. The body is in good shape but the dash is all crap. the steering wheel was DESTROYED. needed a new tranny mount. AC line, ignition switch, steering column, fuel pump, headlamp assembly, Windshield, Etc. So far, i have spent about 3-4k on it not including what i initially paid for it. and i haven't even drove it but a few blocks.
    At this point i can't sell it because i would sell ad a massive loss as the value of these hasn't started going up, but i am betting on it doing so because Pontiac is no more and this is basically the last sports car from Pontiac. Which means they SHOULD appreciate in value to become collectors cars.

      Good question..so do yourself a favor. Start off with a V6. I had a really really nice one and wished I had started with the V6. I ended up destroying it. I hated that I did that especially now that I'm near 40. Enjoy a nice V6 and once you're used to it, step up to the LS1 variant. You'll thank yourself later when you pay a lot for a nice car and it stays nice haha.

    @williamhutchins479 ปีที่แล้ว

    They are no where near affordable. I saw one a month ago for 89k. No lies. WS6's are like 40-60k. And the Trans Am's will run 30+ grand in decent condition. Maybe 20k if it has a bit of high mileage. These are nowhere near "Affordable". I could get a nice newer truck for the cost of this older 90's to 2000's muscle car. It's sad.

    • @lightningshifterstudio
      @lightningshifterstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      What's crazy is when I made this video the prices were far more reasonable then they are now. However with that being said, they are coming down a bit in my last bit of research so it may have just been a quick uptick. Still more affordable than a Porsche or Corvette, and with the Trans Am/Camaro you have more practicality with extra seats and truck space. Still a winning combo in my book

    • @williamhutchins479
      @williamhutchins479 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lightningshifterstudio A trans Am should not be compared to Corvette or Porsche in terms of pricing. But yes they have gone down. But only because people refuse to buy that shit for extortion levels of cash. I mean I get it, garage kept, clean, 80 miles, WS6 package, with the dealer tape still on it should be worth more. But the guy at Morrisons asking 89k for it is smoking crack.
