    Great job. Always good to refresh the brain... Sidenote, at the end of your video you gave three examples, question #2 was 36% of 42 But you worked it out as 36% of 420. That had me scratching my head for a minute, and rethinking my ability to do math lol.

    18% is much easier as 20% - 2% (repeated significant digits is a hint at less work)
    18% of 300 is
    20% = 10% x 2 = 60
    2% = 10% x 60 = 6
    18% = 60 - 6 = 54.

    found an easier method of calculating 38% of 127: find 10% of 127, times the 12.7 by 3, find 1% of 127, times the 1.27 by 8, giving you 38.1 and 10.16 to add together and find your answer

  • @stumbling

    I would do 38% like this
    20% = 10% x 2
    2% = 20% / 10
    40% = 20% x 2
    38% = 40% - 2%
    or if you're feeling super smart
    20% = 10% x 2
    19% = 20% - 1%
    38% = 19% x 2
    So 38% of 127 is
    20% x 127 = 25.4
    19% x 127 = 25.4 - 1.27 = 24.13
    38% x 127 = 48.26

    I think this video goes over everything I already know but it was a useful recap but how would you find out what 69/92 would be as a percentage? It came up as a question for non-calculator but I had no idea how to do it...Is there any other TH-cam video I can watch to help me with this? Thanks for any replies ❤

    • @MathsKitchen
      @MathsKitchen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question. If you have a fraction like that and are trying to do it without a calculator then have a look to see if the fraction will simplify down to an equivalent fraction that you are familiar with. In this example the fraction simplifies down to 3/4 (you get this by dividing the numerator and denominator by 23. It's a tricky one to spot!) and 3/4 is 75%. Hope that helps!

    • @CookieMinister
      @CookieMinister 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MathsKitchen Thank you!!!! It's hard to spot numbers that can simplify like those but every time I see a question like this I'll use the advice you gave me! ❤

    You didn't make 38 percent of 127 easy enough on yourself. Easiest way is to do 127 x 40 in your head and work from there. For me I can reach 5080 easily there because 127*4 is 508 and you then 10x proportionally. From there you know you need to take 2*127 from 5080 to actually get the number to move over 2 decimals. So pretty easy in your head to know 2*127 is 254 and now subtract 254 from 5080 in your head, this is actually the hardest part with my method. But 254 from 5000 is 4746 then add 80 and you've got 4826. Now move over 2 decimals and it's 48.26. I did it in one step in 30 seconds without writing anything down.
