Can you lock your check bags? How do you secure them from handler theft?

Thanks for all the great, to the point, super helpful content! Quick question: what size Boundary Waters bag is that, 148L or 198L? Love the idea of packing the backpack in a large duffel along with other gear.

Advice on using TSA Approved Padlocks given here conflicts with Advice given elsewhere.

The info in this video is just based on flying 30-40 times with firearms. I’m sure there are other opinions. It might be helpful for folks if you give some details on exactly what aspects of locks you’re talking about and the advice you have seen. Thanks

@@CliffGray Firstly let Me preface this by saying that I’m a Law Abiding Australian Firearms Owner and that regardless of My ultimate travel destination, My first Problem is always going to be conforming to Australian Firearm Transportation Laws.
Because of these Laws, My Firearms Case is secured by Padlocks to which only I have Keys.
Also, although I have flown International a number of times I have never transited into or through the United States.
Perhaps My understanding of what you mean by “TSA Approved Padlocks” is at fault.
There just seems to be, from the American perspective, a consensus (among American TH-cam’s) that the TSA want you to be the only person within the Airport who can open your Gun Case. Almost as though they don’t trust there own people where access to or theft of firearms is concerned.

      I gotcha.
In my experience it’s pretty wild how different the information from individual TSA agents is. The official TSA rules are that you can use TSA recognized locks or any lock you prefer. I may have misstated this in the video.
The issue I’ve had and seen many times, particularly going into Canada, is getting escorted off the plane or called at the gate to open the lock if it isn’t a TSA lock. This is after going through the normal check-in process with the firearm... almost like a second screening. It’s a major pain in the butt, can raise the stress level getting on the airplane due to a time crunch, etc... I’d rather go with a TSA lock, but can understand why people would trade off additional security vs the odd chance of this inconvenience.
