He mained mage for Uldir, with main alt being druid, it made sense because his main was caster dps, his alt was caster dps with tank/healer offspecs. He switched them around going into BoD.

Because Fury is crap. Fun gameplay, but shit damage and survivability. I played both in Legion. Arms is by FAR better. Fury has good gameplay, but doesnt compare to arms at all. Most games with dual wielding 2 hander classes/specs usually get screwed, otherwise they'd end up OP af.
That has never been an issue for me. I either like going long range and taking little to no damage. Or up close and personal berserker style. So, Hunter and Warrior.
No matter how bad Druid is in BFA it will be my main, i love the class fantasy and i love being a Tauren (even though i'm super jelly of the new troll forms, Blizz please update cow forms!!!). Every time i go back to Mulgore i remember leveling with my wife in Vanilla she was a troll priest i made her run over to Mulgore so we could level together... Hmm the feel's.
After the beta update this week, my Warlock summoned Prince Malchezaar through the Nether Portal. And he screamed out, "You face not Malchezaar alone, but the legions I command!" and he started whaling on the tree thing with both of his axes. And I just sat there with mouth agape thinking, "I am superior to Wilfred Fizzlebang!!" So, yeah. I'll be playing Demonology Warlock for sure.
Jeez... "If I play BFA... I'm not sold yet." and "All specs are clunkier / worse than they are in Legion." That's a pretty grim outlook. The launch date seems stupider with each passing day.
Hence why they said for financial reasons, so it's most likely try to have the games at separate financial quarters to make it look better for their shareholders.
Normally WoW loses a lot of subscribers after the final tier of an expansion during the content drought. They're likely pushing because of that. Don't forget how rush and untested 7.3.5 was in all the this, how badly the leveling scaling still is (dont try to do cata dungeons like stone core. They're completely overtuned)

Remember how every mage played fire at the start of Legion because preach said he thinks fire is GLOOOORIOUS? Then they got nerfed and everyone had to switch to frost and grind all that ap again? I predict something similar is gonna happen here, if preach says he's playing destro, there will be thousands of squares playing destro.
I've been playing an elemental shaman since BC and I do think that this is the worst the spec has ever felt. The pacing is slow, there are so few maelstrom spenders now that maelstrom itself feels inconsequential, almost all of the spell interactions have been canned, and most of the talents are underwhelming or are overshadowed by other talents in their respective tiers. Elemental amounts to little more than keeping Flame Shock up, using Lava Burst and Earth Shock on cooldown and spamming Lightning Bolt. The one place where elemental shamans excel is in making my monk seem more appealing (not that it wasn't appealing to begin with). When it comes to which class I'll be playing in BfA (shaman vs. monk), I feel like the choice has been made for me.
After watching this video 3 times over the course of a couple days, I think I finally know what I want to main. Thanks Preach! Love that you have been around throughout the years to provide some guidance.
Loved hearing your thought process on making a decision. I like the idea that you should be able to play your class and not just a spec. Regarding your guild, I am now just a casual scrub but that requirement to have 3 classes available sounds so extreme to me. I've never been at the highest echelon of mythic raiding, but it sounds so unreasonable to make that demand of everyone's time.
doesn't just LOOK... people wanting in beta seem to not understand what's going on in beta because let's be honest i don't think they really want to be in the beta.
The version we are currently playing in Beta is still buggy, but it is better than it was earlier when you had to mind the gap while entering a cave or you'd fall through the world.
Been a druid since LK and played every spec every Xpack. Looking into BFA I honestly feel like druid will not be my main. I hope to see more videos so I can have a little bit better of a base for choosing my next main. Keep up the great work!

the ONLY thing that needs to happend is for fury warriors to be able to dual wield 1 handers again (if they want to, and make it viable) or at the very least give us the opertunity to transmog to one handers! This is the one and only important thing in the history of all history!
I know right! The reason I first leveled a warrior was watching my cousin leveling a level 20 ish warriors with 1 hander swords from rfk and barrens quest, the high attack speed procs were so fun
Based on this video the safe bet for Preach's main will be a warlock with a mage and Demon Hunter has his alts. The mage being useful for immunity fights and the Demon Hunter being useful for melee stacking or extra tank fights. Or just the general utility of the Demon Hunter. Those are my guesses so far!
He did say on his stream a few times that he may suspect that everyone and their mum is going Warlock which might keep him for picking at as his 1st choice.
Thomas Blay good point. And the more I think about it, the more likely I would see Preach picking like 3 obscure classes to play. With his compulsions, he may be the guy to say, “I’ll let other people bring the lock or boomy alt for this council fight, I’ll bring the warrior for the fight where we need the execute damage” or something similarly niche. So monk may be up there, meaning he may be the third tank in a “we need a monk because they can’t die” situation. It will be interesting nonetheless.
Hey Preach, I’m with you on fury warriors. I’ve never liked playing arms and get disappointed whenever arms does better than fury. There’s just something so visceral and primal about raining unending blows on the bad guys that just keeps me coming back!
I started WoW 10 years ago as a hunter. Played 5 years without switching mains. Fell in love with feral druid late cata and mained it through WOD. Demon hunter was something I'd been waiting for since I started playing and I've mained it since about 7.1 or so. Not a mythic raider and to be honest I don't believe in switching mains/specs from patch to patch. I play what I want and if raid leaders don't like it, I don't raid. It doesn't really bother me. Respect to you for doing what you do you're good at it. Keep the content coming

Even WoD looked more promising by this point, and what a flop that turned out to be. I hope Blizz can redeem themselves through some great changes, pre-expansion hype is vital towards the continued success of WoW - but it's sometimes better to take the more critical route, so that they can make some much needed changes.
WoD looked amazing before release and was quite hyped too. The bigger was the disappointment when it released. BfA looks shit and probably is going to be shit. I mean with lower expectation the disappointment won't be so harsh, but the end result will be the same: we will quit the game, just as I did in WoD.
I find it adorable when WoW players still subbed are on the fence about whether they're going to keep playing or not. If they're having "doubts" they're definitely still going to play, they may just groan as they do.

I decided on playing the Masochist. I'm going to spend the entire expansion just smashing myself in the crotch with a hammer instead of actually playing the game. I'm willing to bet my enjoyment level will be slightly higher than any other class.
First I have to say that while I understand it is A LOT of work, coming into Legion your overviews of every class were really good and helped me in a big way to choose my main and main alt for Legion.. This time around I got beta access and been able to test things myself but for everybody else, even if was not as exhaustive as before maybe an overview per role where you spend a few minutes talking about each spec would be great (Melee dps, ranged dps, healer, tank)
This is why I am happy to be just a heroic scrub... I don't have to care one bit about what class I think is going to be bis, I don't have to care about whether all of the specs for my main are viable. I can say "I am a 75% ranking " and at the end of the day, I will still get aotc and meet my goals.... Of course, I am also one of those people who got the achievement for completing all 12 order hall campaigns less than 6 months into legion, so I *will* be able to play anything, especially since I've decided to do the same on the other faction as well.
That being said, I was a hunter until the end of wrath, and switched to bear for cata, then resto shaman in mop. I switched to enhance in nighthold since we had another resto shaman who was garbage at dps, and two rsham was just not working well, and now I'm a mistweaver main with a bdk "main alt", and so far neither of those is offensive to me on beta. I have actually quite enjoyed mistweaver on beta, though I haven't played with it since they started making changes, so things may change.... none of the other classes really jump out at me as something I specifically love, so there is a chance I might just level one to 120 and call it quits.
Yeah i hear you. I dont know if its just me but appart from specific parts of the story BFA looks pretty underwhelming right now. Its got a huge continent to explore but not too much to do in once you reach level cap. I mained a priest for years (holy+shadow) but got tired of way it plays so iam going to go back to a BM hunter for BFA.
if youre not mythci lvl, you can use any class and tlanets and spec you want. aslong ist overly bad. Like when spec a at best possible is like 500k behind worst dps otehrwise you light have issue but otherwise it doest matter much really. In wod when i stilll did mythic i almost Always use dnecrotic plague as unholy even in singletarget over breath, just cause i was more conformatble with it and could play it better then breath but i had to promise my gm i could perform with it, which i did.
For me its really hard to choose a main because almost every class I tried feels extremely boring and raw. I hope in BfA more people will recognize how bad pruning for this game was especially for the longer term.
I feel ya with that approach about all of the possible roles must be their best and maximized in order to pick that class. Its almost like a OCD. But hey, it works!
I dont really agree that you have to minmax to do the hardest content. Sure if you are aiming to be the best of the best and first to clear then yes. But i play and played ret paladin since BC, i never switched and most of the time if i had the time, did high end content without a problem, especially in legion. So unless you want to be in top idk 1000 guilds to clear mythic, you can play whatever you want as long as you know your class, your spec and what to do in fights.

Cheers mate, i think you made my mind up about switching to a lock a lot easier, not only does our guild need a lock and was debating the switch its nice to see they're in a good place atm. hopefully you keep this video up to date before release so I can check back in to see if its still a good choice.
I fully disagree with you on the spec choice thing Preach. My guild was consistently top 10 in our server and we cleared all content. No one in our guild was ever chastised for the spec they played. I'm saying this because I don't want people to think that they have to be able to play multiple specs and switch whenever to raid mythic and get cutting edge. All that really matters is A) Show up on time every time B) Don't mess up mechanics too much. When my guild killed Mythic Guldan I was playing Unholy which was supposedly dog shit at the time but I was still third dps after the Fury Warriors. Yes everyone playing absolutely optimally will cut down your pulls probably but it doesn't mean you can't clear content without them doing it.
Well, he did say it's his personal mentality. I kinda have the same. If I have class A, B and C at equal power levels but had been maining class A for all of Antorus, if all of a sudden class B or C was better for a given boss I'd instantly switch to that, same goes for classes of the same spec. However, this doesn't mean that everyone should play the same way, it's just how some of us play. But, as an officer in a guild that raids 5 hours a week and hovers around rank 20 on Draenor-EU, I will add that being able and willing to play more than 1 spec makes you much more attractive than the 1tricks out there, especially if you raid a very limited amount of time each week like I do.
Unholy was very strong on guldan though..saying you did well on a fight that doesn't exemplify the weaknesses of your spec doesn't say much.

Tbh top 10 realm could be world 50 or world 2000 depending on realm so it doesn't say much regarding how 'hardcore' your guild is. My guild is #8 on our realm and only just recently killed argus a few weeks back.

"fun to play" = does lots of damage "boring / isn't quite there" = does not do a lot of damage "spice" = lots of button pressing "doesn't have that spark" = not a lot of button pressing

I've mained Demonology since I first started the game back in TBC, things are finally going in the right direction for the spec, Legion was great with meta killed off and summoning coming to the forefront and BFA looks even better!
I've been playing Paladin since Cata and eventhough there were some rough patches I stuck with it. But Bfa Ret just feels like garbage. In early testing i noticed huge 2 GCD gaps in the rotation but thought nothing of them yet then just before character copy was available I tried it again and it was better but still had 1 GCD gaps every minute or so. What killed it for me was when I got my 30% haste Main over to beta and the gaps were still there. Apparently blizzard wants downtime for soem reason? Mage/Warllock/Fury and so many other specs dont have these downtimes why Ret? Sow e can use our hybrid support? if we had some sure but even then Id rather take a smooth flowing rotation anyway and support when I needed to. Then we have Mage and Warlock. All six specs are great with Demo/Arcane at the Top and Fire at the bottom ofd the lot. WW and Brew Monk are great. Fury is fantastic... I dont really want to change but I can forsee myself really gettinmg frustrated with Ret if I dont. I really like the paladin style and all and I never really mained any other class. All the Reps and other cool shit is on my Paladin. Its a really hard decision for me.
I'm unable to really play wow given a recent wrist injury, but a lot of what i heard about the demon hunter is super appealing to me! I think personally monk or Demon hunter look the most appealing. I mained a paladin and priest for years, and I honestly love the aesthetics of a priest, but the recent play styles of those two classes just haven't done it for me, but i'd really love nothing more then to go back to being a priest. My main in legion was an Ele/resto shaman, Idk what they've done to ele in bfa, but the fact its fun is good to hear! The last iteration I saw was the wonky all about the earth shock, early beta build.
It's not strange. But for some1 like him who wants to raid Mythic in a pretty decent mythic raiding team and doing high keys, playing a spec that historically hasnt been that good isnt a good choice. Also a matter of taste as well. You might REALLY like shadow priest.
It is not that strange, i would say most people actually stick to the same class every expansion and min max that class to play the best spec. I played pally in tbc and wrath and swapped to mage in cata because i just prefer ranged but pally will always be the first alt i level, and when my guild needed a tank in WoD my pally was geared and ready to help out until we recruited a new one.
Just because they've played pally for 8 years doesn't mean they're simple minded. My druid has been my main for 8 years yet I play the all the other classes eventually. Matter of fact, I've completed 35/36 mage tower. Some of us are attached to a class.
I've always played a hunter, after the surv becoming melee change, found my love for Marksmanship and then hated the Vulnerable hunter. I was loving the sound of the BFA Marksmanship hunter until I ended up playing it myself and am now finding myself gearing towards a different main for the first time since Vanilla... The Warlock. Every single spec is fun to play and I still cannot get over how beautiful Destruction looks.

Legion was the first expansion where I put time and effort into more than my DK to the mythic/2k+ level. Personally, I'm excited to head into BfA with dk, dh, and pala, and a lock for downtime
I kinda do a little of both. I use the new expansion to find a new class while still playing my old class for a while. In MoP I mained a DK, in WoD I mained a Paladin but still played my DK, in Legion I mained a Mage but still played my Paladin, and in BfA I'm planning (right now) to main either a Monk, Warlock, or Druid. I feel like the new expansion is the best opportunity for me personally to hop onto a new class because it'll be all new content and I won't get bored running through the Broken Shore for the 12th time
When choosing a class, I try to branch out each expansion but always find my way back to a druid or a lock. I went druid for legion, plan on maining a lock and see how that goes.

IMO a talent system that requires math to discern which talent choice is "the best" is a good system. Then it relies more on personal preference than just having one talent that is far superior.

I have an 8 page Google doc with 5 steps to it that i've used to choose my bfa main. I played all the classes, used a rating system, and got it down to 2 but just as I was doing more testing on those 2 I got beta from T&E, so now I'm playing them on beta (pretty sure I've already made my decision though). Also i got to do a dungeon with you, it was a temple of sethraliss and you where playing dk, was super hyped to play with you!
After going through this rigamarole twice now with Brewmaster where they start weak, and word of mouth makes them entirely undesirable, but they end up strong enough but the most fun to play - sticking with my monk from the beginning this time around (as opposed to switching after a few months of playing something else but missing my monk)
Resto/Feral main. I need a healer and DPS spec to main a class. Having two DPS styles is just nice, and then I can tank if I need to (usually late in a patch for me). Plus Travel forms, and stealth/self heal on every spec... Druid has everything I want in a character, and has for years. They'd have to break it for me not to run one. Though I will miss the emerald dream way. Great thought process though, I enjoyed the commentary as always. I also couldn't help but laugh at the amount of race/faction changes on your character sheet.
Your outro is pretty spot fucking on. I played off and on in BC and Pandaria, didn't play Vanilla, Wrath or Cata. With the level 90 boost on WoD I decided to step away from my paladin and hunter and start fresh. I boosted a mage and have been arcane mage since then. I've tried fire and frost for a short time but it doesn't feel as good as building those 4 procs and then just unleashing everything. I do kinda miss the mana*damage mechanic of WoD to be honest and I'm hoping the arcane mage is decent in legion because other than some short alt runs, it's pretty much all I play.
I was planning to continue on with my Warlock. After seeing afflic and demo, I was excited. However, I've been a bit let down by the loss of the destro artifact ability, and the legendary shoulders that increased damage while rifts were open. Really felt it added a lot of fun burst windows to work around.
Yes yes yes! I've just watched the same video about Legion and thought, that it would be great to finally get one about BfA. And there it is, son! PS - No matter the cost, UH DK forever, because life is a dark abyss of nothingness. (DH alt for same reason) I almost regret about not picking a warlock, because new animations are so cool!
As for me I start by limiting it to classes that have a Healing spec which is usually what I do in groups, but I also enjoy going DPS for leveling/questing or sometimes for farm content so having at least one DPS spec that I like is a must as well.. For Legion I went with Monk as a main and Priest as my main alt, eventually Priest became my main since Disc was so fun for raids and started noticing some annoying things about MW Monk.. Now for BFA I'll most likely go Priest again, while I don't love Holy as much as Disc it is still ok and what I really like is that within the same class I have two options to chose form depending on what the raid and the fight requires, as for Main Alt I think is between Monk again and Druid I'm probably gonna level both and decide latter..
I've main'd a rogue since WotLK. Will continue to main a rogue in BFA because I've done so much with him - have every legendary of old, MoP challenge mode set, WoD challenge mode weapons, Bonescythe armor, and of course the legion mage tower skins. Rogues for life - still the only class that has 3 melee dps specs.
I change mains a lot, much to my GM's and the officer's annoyance. So far I've decided and changed my mind later six times - From DH, which is being ruined to Priest, Paladin, Rogue, Paladin, Rogue and now Fury since the rework. Life is hard, Preach. Life is hard.
From what little testing I've done in the beta so far, it's looking like shaman and monk will be my two main characters, with the third slot being up for grabs between demon hunter, mage, and warlock...I only try to keep up with 3 characters at a time cause I just don't have enough time to play around with gearing and grinding on more than that, especially early-on in the expansion...once I've started to run out of things to do on those 3, then I start working on the other 9 classes...
I dont get why blizz just couldnt say that we worked so long together with the artefact weapons that we learned the perks and can use them without the weapons itself, so the most perks are baseline. And so from that point they could add/ change other spells and azerite bonuses instead of destroying the smoothness from most classes.
Cant make a choise.. been testing, reading, talking, watching specs and classes and I just CANT make a choise. Hoping your vids will clear up some of my doubts/questions! Looking forward to the next episode
I'm really torn not because I'm worried about what class to pick, but because everything feels so *slow* now. And the weird thing is my mate (who is a gamer) looked over at this video and said "is this WoW? the gameplay looks really fast" which blew my mind because it's the slowest it's been since like, BC. So yeah the choice isn't which class for me, but if I'm going to play at all. You were saying most tanking specs are putting you to sleep, that's how I feel about the gameplay in general atm.
Definitely going warlock and DH, throw in some druid for the leveling of a zandalari druid (those sweet forms) and most likely a zandalari warrior aswell and things will be good.
I've already settled on playing a Shaman for BfA. I don't mind Enhancment, and like you said, Elemental is incredibly fun to play right now. Not a huge fan of Restoration, but liking 2/3 specs isn't bad. This will be the first Shaman I ever main in an xpac, so fingers crossed.

Hence why they said for financial reasons, so it's most likely try to have the games at separate financial quarters to make it look better for their shareholders.
Normally WoW loses a lot of subscribers after the final tier of an expansion during the content drought. They're likely pushing because of that.
Don't forget how rush and untested 7.3.5 was in all the this, how badly the leveling scaling still is (dont try to do cata dungeons like stone core. They're completely overtuned)

I've been playing an elemental shaman since BC and I do think that this is the worst the spec has ever felt. The pacing is slow, there are so few maelstrom spenders now that maelstrom itself feels inconsequential, almost all of the spell interactions have been canned, and most of the talents are underwhelming or are overshadowed by other talents in their respective tiers. Elemental amounts to little more than keeping Flame Shock up, using Lava Burst and Earth Shock on cooldown and spamming Lightning Bolt.
The one place where elemental shamans excel is in making my monk seem more appealing (not that it wasn't appealing to begin with). When it comes to which class I'll be playing in BfA (shaman vs. monk), I feel like the choice has been made for me.
After watching this video 3 times over the course of a couple days, I think I finally know what I want to main. Thanks Preach! Love that you have been around throughout the years to provide some guidance.

Loved hearing your thought process on making a decision. I like the idea that you should be able to play your class and not just a spec. Regarding your guild, I am now just a casual scrub but that requirement to have 3 classes available sounds so extreme to me. I've never been at the highest echelon of mythic raiding, but it sounds so unreasonable to make that demand of everyone's time.

The version we are currently playing in Beta is still buggy, but it is better than it was earlier when you had to mind the gap while entering a cave or you'd fall through the world.
Been a druid since LK and played every spec every Xpack. Looking into BFA I honestly feel like druid will not be my main. I hope to see more videos so I can have a little bit better of a base for choosing my next main. Keep up the great work!
This expansion is way more alt friendly than Legion. I'm going with Warlock because it is the only one where I like all 3 specs.

the ONLY thing that needs to happend is for fury warriors to be able to dual wield 1 handers again (if they want to, and make it viable) or at the very least give us the opertunity to transmog to one handers! This is the one and only important thing in the history of all history!

Based on this video the safe bet for Preach's main will be a warlock with a mage and Demon Hunter has his alts. The mage being useful for immunity fights and the Demon Hunter being useful for melee stacking or extra tank fights. Or just the general utility of the Demon Hunter. Those are my guesses so far!
He did say on his stream a few times that he may suspect that everyone and their mum is going Warlock which might keep him for picking at as his 1st choice.
Thomas Blay good point. And the more I think about it, the more likely I would see Preach picking like 3 obscure classes to play. With his compulsions, he may be the guy to say, “I’ll let other people bring the lock or boomy alt for this council fight, I’ll bring the warrior for the fight where we need the execute damage” or something similarly niche. So monk may be up there, meaning he may be the third tank in a “we need a monk because they can’t die” situation. It will be interesting nonetheless.

Hey Preach, I’m with you on fury warriors. I’ve never liked playing arms and get disappointed whenever arms does better than fury. There’s just something so visceral and primal about raining unending blows on the bad guys that just keeps me coming back!

I started WoW 10 years ago as a hunter. Played 5 years without switching mains. Fell in love with feral druid late cata and mained it through WOD. Demon hunter was something I'd been waiting for since I started playing and I've mained it since about 7.1 or so. Not a mythic raider and to be honest I don't believe in switching mains/specs from patch to patch. I play what I want and if raid leaders don't like it, I don't raid. It doesn't really bother me. Respect to you for doing what you do you're good at it. Keep the content coming
7:38 "I'm not sold on BFA right now" I know you've been saying this for a while, but it's crazy to think that it's come to this; only two months from launch. Even WoD looked more promising by this point, and what a flop that turned out to be. I hope Blizz can redeem themselves through some great changes, pre-expansion hype is vital towards the continued success of WoW - but it's sometimes better to take the more critical route, so that they can make some much needed changes.
WoD looked amazing before release and was quite hyped too. The bigger was the disappointment when it released. BfA looks shit and probably is going to be shit. I mean with lower expectation the disappointment won't be so harsh, but the end result will be the same: we will quit the game, just as I did in WoD.
I find it adorable when WoW players still subbed are on the fence about whether they're going to keep playing or not. If they're having "doubts" they're definitely still going to play, they may just groan as they do.

I decided on playing the Masochist. I'm going to spend the entire expansion just smashing myself in the crotch with a hammer instead of actually playing the game. I'm willing to bet my enjoyment level will be slightly higher than any other class.

First I have to say that while I understand it is A LOT of work, coming into Legion your overviews of every class were really good and helped me in a big way to choose my main and main alt for Legion.. This time around I got beta access and been able to test things myself but for everybody else, even if was not as exhaustive as before maybe an overview per role where you spend a few minutes talking about each spec would be great (Melee dps, ranged dps, healer, tank)
My main has been Survival Hunter since WotLK, but I'm considering changing it in BfA. I'm considering Warlock or Monk.

This is why I am happy to be just a heroic scrub... I don't have to care one bit about what class I think is going to be bis, I don't have to care about whether all of the specs for my main are viable. I can say "I am a 75% ranking " and at the end of the day, I will still get aotc and meet my goals.... Of course, I am also one of those people who got the achievement for completing all 12 order hall campaigns less than 6 months into legion, so I *will* be able to play anything, especially since I've decided to do the same on the other faction as well.
That being said, I was a hunter until the end of wrath, and switched to bear for cata, then resto shaman in mop. I switched to enhance in nighthold since we had another resto shaman who was garbage at dps, and two rsham was just not working well, and now I'm a mistweaver main with a bdk "main alt", and so far neither of those is offensive to me on beta. I have actually quite enjoyed mistweaver on beta, though I haven't played with it since they started making changes, so things may change.... none of the other classes really jump out at me as something I specifically love, so there is a chance I might just level one to 120 and call it quits.
Yeah i hear you. I dont know if its just me but appart from specific parts of the story BFA looks pretty underwhelming right now. Its got a huge continent to explore but not too much to do in once you reach level cap. I mained a priest for years (holy+shadow) but got tired of way it plays so iam going to go back to a BM hunter for BFA.
I don’t have to care about bis or ranking anymore either. But then again I quit all together quite awhile ago
if youre not mythci lvl, you can use any class and tlanets and spec you want. aslong ist overly bad. Like when spec a at best possible is like 500k behind worst dps otehrwise you light have issue but otherwise it doest matter much really.
In wod when i stilll did mythic i almost Always use dnecrotic plague as unholy even in singletarget over breath, just cause i was more conformatble with it and could play it better then breath but i had to promise my gm i could perform with it, which i did.

I hope in BfA more people will recognize how bad pruning for this game was especially for the longer term.
You should try the frost mage, it's honestly my favorite playstyle I've tried so far in Wow. :)

I dont really agree that you have to minmax to do the hardest content. Sure if you are aiming to be the best of the best and first to clear then yes. But i play and played ret paladin since BC, i never switched and most of the time if i had the time, did high end content without a problem, especially in legion. So unless you want to be in top idk 1000 guilds to clear mythic, you can play whatever you want as long as you know your class, your spec and what to do in fights.
I've mained an Unholy Death Knight since Wrath and I don't plan on changing that trend.
Preacher Legion was my first expansion I didn't realize how difficult this decision was

Cheers mate, i think you made my mind up about switching to a lock a lot easier, not only does our guild need a lock and was debating the switch its nice to see they're in a good place atm. hopefully you keep this video up to date before release so I can check back in to see if its still a good choice.
I fully disagree with you on the spec choice thing Preach. My guild was consistently top 10 in our server and we cleared all content. No one in our guild was ever chastised for the spec they played. I'm saying this because I don't want people to think that they have to be able to play multiple specs and switch whenever to raid mythic and get cutting edge. All that really matters is
A) Show up on time every time
B) Don't mess up mechanics too much.
When my guild killed Mythic Guldan I was playing Unholy which was supposedly dog shit at the time but I was still third dps after the Fury Warriors. Yes everyone playing absolutely optimally will cut down your pulls probably but it doesn't mean you can't clear content without them doing it.
just min/maxing, and ur situation is the exception. Ur guild/people r awesome, and u can clear the content.
Well, he did say it's his personal mentality. I kinda have the same. If I have class A, B and C at equal power levels but had been maining class A for all of Antorus, if all of a sudden class B or C was better for a given boss I'd instantly switch to that, same goes for classes of the same spec.
However, this doesn't mean that everyone should play the same way, it's just how some of us play. But, as an officer in a guild that raids 5 hours a week and hovers around rank 20 on Draenor-EU, I will add that being able and willing to play more than 1 spec makes you much more attractive than the 1tricks out there, especially if you raid a very limited amount of time each week like I do.
Unholy was very strong on guldan though..saying you did well on a fight that doesn't exemplify the weaknesses of your spec doesn't say much.
Tbh top 10 realm could be world 50 or world 2000 depending on realm so it doesn't say much regarding how 'hardcore' your guild is. My guild is #8 on our realm and only just recently killed argus a few weeks back.

not automatically knowing which talent choise is better is great, it means that ppl eighter have to figure it out or they can choose whatever they want if theyre not as hc
"fun to play" = does lots of damage
"boring / isn't quite there" = does not do a lot of damage
"spice" = lots of button pressing
"doesn't have that spark" = not a lot of button pressing

I've mained Demonology since I first started the game back in TBC, things are finally going in the right direction for the spec, Legion was great with meta killed off and summoning coming to the forefront and BFA looks even better!
Simple choice:
Tank - Demon Hunter
Melee - Demon Hunter
Ranged - Demon Hunter
Healer - Demon Hunter
Isn't this class so fair and balanced?

I've been playing Paladin since Cata and eventhough there were some rough patches I stuck with it. But Bfa Ret just feels like garbage. In early testing i noticed huge 2 GCD gaps in the rotation but thought nothing of them yet then just before character copy was available I tried it again and it was better but still had 1 GCD gaps every minute or so. What killed it for me was when I got my 30% haste Main over to beta and the gaps were still there. Apparently blizzard wants downtime for soem reason? Mage/Warllock/Fury and so many other specs dont have these downtimes why Ret? Sow e can use our hybrid support? if we had some sure but even then Id rather take a smooth flowing rotation anyway and support when I needed to.
Then we have Mage and Warlock. All six specs are great with Demo/Arcane at the Top and Fire at the bottom ofd the lot. WW and Brew Monk are great. Fury is fantastic...
I dont really want to change but I can forsee myself really gettinmg frustrated with Ret if I dont. I really like the paladin style and all and I never really mained any other class. All the Reps and other cool shit is on my Paladin.
Its a really hard decision for me.

I think personally monk or Demon hunter look the most appealing. I mained a paladin and priest for years, and I honestly love the aesthetics of a priest, but the recent play styles of those two classes just haven't done it for me, but i'd really love nothing more then to go back to being a priest.
My main in legion was an Ele/resto shaman, Idk what they've done to ele in bfa, but the fact its fun is good to hear! The last iteration I saw was the wonky all about the earth shock, early beta build.

It's not strange. But for some1 like him who wants to raid Mythic in a pretty decent mythic raiding team and doing high keys, playing a spec that historically hasnt been that good isnt a good choice. Also a matter of taste as well. You might REALLY like shadow priest.

It is not that strange, i would say most people actually stick to the same class every expansion and min max that class to play the best spec. I played pally in tbc and wrath and swapped to mage in cata because i just prefer ranged but pally will always be the first alt i level, and when my guild needed a tank in WoD my pally was geared and ready to help out until we recruited a new one.

Just because they've played pally for 8 years doesn't mean they're simple minded. My druid has been my main for 8 years yet I play the all the other classes eventually. Matter of fact, I've completed 35/36 mage tower. Some of us are attached to a class.

I've always played a hunter, after the surv becoming melee change, found my love for Marksmanship and then hated the Vulnerable hunter. I was loving the sound of the BFA Marksmanship hunter until I ended up playing it myself and am now finding myself gearing towards a different main for the first time since Vanilla... The Warlock. Every single spec is fun to play and I still cannot get over how beautiful Destruction looks.
Still waiting to see where the fun is in this xpac, Haven't seen anything that will want to make me play it yet. Luckily sub runs out in two days..

Legion was the first expansion where I put time and effort into more than my DK to the mythic/2k+ level. Personally, I'm excited to head into BfA with dk, dh, and pala, and a lock for downtime

I kinda do a little of both. I use the new expansion to find a new class while still playing my old class for a while. In MoP I mained a DK, in WoD I mained a Paladin but still played my DK, in Legion I mained a Mage but still played my Paladin, and in BfA I'm planning (right now) to main either a Monk, Warlock, or Druid. I feel like the new expansion is the best opportunity for me personally to hop onto a new class because it'll be all new content and I won't get bored running through the Broken Shore for the 12th time

When choosing a class, I try to branch out each expansion but always find my way back to a druid or a lock. I went druid for legion, plan on maining a lock and see how that goes.
Druid Is Bast most fun clas in gameAlways Way On top inone of spec. And So many Spels.. And Fun Good looking Gear Alll They added Looks. Monkin PVe is SO Ql and OP and Feral Is so hard To Play Prfect. LOck and Druid Got highest skill cap.
Warior Looks to me so lame nothing special Spam spels And charge like idiot without plan. But i like The way It works with Weapons and Look.

IMO a talent system that requires math to discern which talent choice is "the best" is a good system. Then it relies more on personal preference than just having one talent that is far superior.

I have an 8 page Google doc with 5 steps to it that i've used to choose my bfa main. I played all the classes, used a rating system, and got it down to 2 but just as I was doing more testing on those 2 I got beta from T&E, so now I'm playing them on beta (pretty sure I've already made my decision though). Also i got to do a dungeon with you, it was a temple of sethraliss and you where playing dk, was super hyped to play with you!

After going through this rigamarole twice now with Brewmaster where they start weak, and word of mouth makes them entirely undesirable, but they end up strong enough but the most fun to play - sticking with my monk from the beginning this time around (as opposed to switching after a few months of playing something else but missing my monk)
Resto/Feral main. I need a healer and DPS spec to main a class. Having two DPS styles is just nice, and then I can tank if I need to (usually late in a patch for me). Plus Travel forms, and stealth/self heal on every spec... Druid has everything I want in a character, and has for years. They'd have to break it for me not to run one. Though I will miss the emerald dream way.
Great thought process though, I enjoyed the commentary as always. I also couldn't help but laugh at the amount of race/faction changes on your character sheet.
Your outro is pretty spot fucking on. I played off and on in BC and Pandaria, didn't play Vanilla, Wrath or Cata. With the level 90 boost on WoD I decided to step away from my paladin and hunter and start fresh. I boosted a mage and have been arcane mage since then. I've tried fire and frost for a short time but it doesn't feel as good as building those 4 procs and then just unleashing everything. I do kinda miss the mana*damage mechanic of WoD to be honest and I'm hoping the arcane mage is decent in legion because other than some short alt runs, it's pretty much all I play.
I was planning to continue on with my Warlock. After seeing afflic and demo, I was excited. However, I've been a bit let down by the loss of the destro artifact ability, and the legendary shoulders that increased damage while rifts were open. Really felt it added a lot of fun burst windows to work around.

As for me I start by limiting it to classes that have a Healing spec which is usually what I do in groups, but I also enjoy going DPS for leveling/questing or sometimes for farm content so having at least one DPS spec that I like is a must as well.. For Legion I went with Monk as a main and Priest as my main alt, eventually Priest became my main since Disc was so fun for raids and started noticing some annoying things about MW Monk.. Now for BFA I'll most likely go Priest again, while I don't love Holy as much as Disc it is still ok and what I really like is that within the same class I have two options to chose form depending on what the raid and the fight requires, as for Main Alt I think is between Monk again and Druid I'm probably gonna level both and decide latter..
I've main'd a rogue since WotLK. Will continue to main a rogue in BFA because I've done so much with him - have every legendary of old, MoP challenge mode set, WoD challenge mode weapons, Bonescythe armor, and of course the legion mage tower skins. Rogues for life - still the only class that has 3 melee dps specs.
I change mains a lot, much to my GM's and the officer's annoyance. So far I've decided and changed my mind later six times - From DH, which is being ruined to Priest, Paladin, Rogue, Paladin, Rogue and now Fury since the rework. Life is hard, Preach. Life is hard.
I don't know about gameplay, but warcraft lore has gotten better and better over the last 24 years. Can't wait for bfa.
From what little testing I've done in the beta so far, it's looking like shaman and monk will be my two main characters, with the third slot being up for grabs between demon hunter, mage, and warlock...I only try to keep up with 3 characters at a time cause I just don't have enough time to play around with gearing and grinding on more than that, especially early-on in the expansion...once I've started to run out of things to do on those 3, then I start working on the other 9 classes...
I dont get why blizz just couldnt say that we worked so long together with the artefact weapons that we learned the perks and can use them without the weapons itself, so the most perks are baseline. And so from that point they could add/ change other spells and azerite bonuses instead of destroying the smoothness from most classes.
Cant make a choise.. been testing, reading, talking, watching specs and classes and I just CANT make a choise.

I'm really torn not because I'm worried about what class to pick, but because everything feels so *slow* now. And the weird thing is my mate (who is a gamer) looked over at this video and said "is this WoW? the gameplay looks really fast" which blew my mind because it's the slowest it's been since like, BC.
So yeah the choice isn't which class for me, but if I'm going to play at all. You were saying most tanking specs are putting you to sleep, that's how I feel about the gameplay in general atm.
Definitely going warlock and DH, throw in some druid for the leveling of a zandalari druid (those sweet forms) and most likely a zandalari warrior aswell and things will be good.
I've already settled on playing a Shaman for BfA. I don't mind Enhancment, and like you said, Elemental is incredibly fun to play right now. Not a huge fan of Restoration, but liking 2/3 specs isn't bad.
This will be the first Shaman I ever main in an xpac, so fingers crossed.
