My honest opinion,I've eaten sweets from various cities in Maharashtra,Gujarat,Rajasthan,Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
I must say nothing and I mean nothing even comes close to sweets I've had from Kolkata...It legit rewired my taste buds, you think you kinda know it all or you could predict, but then you have a bite and it's equivalent of getting hit with a brick, just mind-blowing.
For context I stay in pune, originally from Gujarat, wife from Indore and sometimes I do get the chance to travel in various states.
      Kolkata sweets are next level!!😋🔥😘

I'm a strict vegetarian n to the best of my knowledge there's hardly any vegetarian restaurants in Kolkata. So 99% of the time I eat home cooked food. Sometimes I do get bored n wanna try food outside. Plz can you guide me to a few nice restaurant/eateries here

Hey Max: Great to see you enjoying Kolkata street food, my home town. What you thought was paratha is actually either puri or luchi. The difference between paratha and puri or luch is, partha is bigger in size (like laccha paratha) and it is pan sauteed, not deep fried. Luchi or puri are more or less the same and they are much smaller than paratha and are deep fried., like the two luchis you had with the alu in gravy. I have been away from Kolkata over 50 years now. Living in California. You are a lot of things in your food journey through India that I have never done and I wish to do.

Those were Puris instead of paratha and yes the sabzee was actually free. In Bengal you get sabzee complimentary with the puri or paratha. And indeed it was 10 rs, thats the normal price.

You should have gone in... not only do they have sweets, their mishti doi is to die for AND their luchi and chholar daal is just divine. Next time, please visit that place. It's in the same "paRaa" as the house I grew up in, btw, so it's a local shop for me. Anyway, I don't know if you had a chance to eat the famous Kolkata rolls... if you didn't this time, you should the next time. I badly miss my Kolkata mutton rolls chicken rolls egg rolls Jhaalmuri Phuchka Kulphi... the Momos Gujiya Malaikari Chocolate sandesh... and so sooo much more. And oh god the fruits!! Kaalojaam (a certain kind of blackberry but just out of this world!) Shabeda Mangos Kuuls... Kolkata is without peer even in India for its food and fruit and sweets. Hands down THE BEST INDIAN FOOD EXPERIENCE EVER.
