  • To commemorate the 5th anniversary of Dave retiring from late night television (his last show was on May 20, 2015), I've put together a series of "first and last" appearances, the latter paying tributes in their own ways to the last giant of late night (h/t Jason Zinoman).
    Part 1. Chris Elliott
    1. March 16, 1982
    2. February 10, 2015
The 2015 guest appearance comes from Andrew Lynch's superb TH-cam upload, linked here: • Video

I watched this goofy man perform on Late Night since the 80's through the 90's and onward. He always cracked me up. He is part of the DNA of Letterman's television legacy.

"The funniest person I've ever worked with". That comment from Dave blew me away. Chris on the early Letterman show was some of the funniest comedy of the last forty years.

Dave agreed to be in Cabin Boy. That’s how much he loved Chris Elliot

Funny to look back on this interview from 6 years ago..little did Chris know how huge Schitt's Creek would be!

"Schitt's Creek" is the kind of name I could see 80s-era Dave having a ball with as a skit/gag, complete with Bill Wendell doing a fake NBC promo ("In Schitt's Creek, the water may be brown but the fun is crystal clear!").

At first I thought ( after a glance) that one of these guys died. Glad that's not the case.

Don Giller Well, I saw your uploads and had the thought before I could even click on the videos to read the descriptions.

Storied Worlds it’s funny, i don’t really “get” how this universal assumption of death has associated itself so strongly with this channel. It’s become so hilariously predictable that one need not scroll too far on any given video to find the “who died?” question (now meme, basically?). Interestingly, I’ve found that a video’s description is often found right below the video.
