One of the first groups ,I heard in 1965 , I was a young Marine ,Their Music Helped All of us Jarheads ,keep it Together ❤ John Barnett, revisited October 20 2024 ❤❤ 3:27
I remember at the Uptown Theater here in Philly WDAS Georgie Woods would have the "battle of the groups." I remember the Mad Lads, The Temptations and the Vibrations and others were on the show. The Mad Lads came out on stage dance steppin before they sung a note. The audience went wild (especially the ladies.) Then they broke into "I want someone" I want a girl and the crowd was wasted when the late great Robert Phillips would sing his memorable bass line on "Come closer to me." The crowd chanted MORE! MORE! MORE!!! After their set they had to come out for a couple of encores. When the week of shows ended, I remember listening to the radio after I got home from school when Georgie Woods announced the winner of the "battle of the groups" the Mad Lads had stole the show even from the mighty Temptations.
I recall see them at the Uptown Theater in Philly. I was @9. The young girls were screaming their heads off. My favorite was "So Nice and By the time I get to Phoenix"
Shop around is my favorite from the original Mad Lads, And Safe in Our Love from the Last New Version of the Mad Lads before John Gary Williams passed, I also played guitar on the song.
I still have their album in my collection. I was in school when I saved up my lunch money to buy it so it could be played at our house parties. Just about all their songs were my favorite. Not all but at least 3--4
Stax definitely had a slew of acts that had all the makings in becoming as bigger and greater than the label's top and well-known artists. Especially the Mad Lads that had it all but just never received that ultimate break! A favorite and stand-out tune by the Mad Lads was "No Strings Attached."
The mad lads story were cool I got another idea for you dawg how about doing a video on The Rays they did the song two silhouettes appreciate the content dawg 👍
