“Major Lance gave us GOOD CLASSIC TIMELESS MUSIC,” and I have to say, he had FANTASTIC dance moves.!!! My favorite songs are Um Um Um Um Um Um and Rhythm.
You know what's up! I remember this brother back in the day! He reminded me of Jackie Wilson's style of dance and moves! These youngsters don't know what REAL music is today. Back in the day we had dance music, message music, and music to rap to a girl by; not this loud sc(rap) garbage! I wish I could turn back the hands of time!
The Monkey Time, Um Um Um Um Um Um, Hey Little Girl, Girl You Don't Know Me, Delilah, Rhythm, and many more are my favorites by Major Lance, keep them coming man.
My favorite is the song I heard way back in the day the Sunday night oldies back in the late 80s early nineties. The Monkey time because that and The song Um Um Um Um. Was the songs they played a. Lot his biggest 2 hits those the song I remember as little boy
Major was the man not only in Chicago but across the country from 1962-1967. Hit after hit.”Delilah” is still my favorite as well as his version of “The Watusi”.
My favorite song by Major Lance was the Money Time , and umm umm umm. I was a young preteen when those songs came out . He deserves to be in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame. 🙏💕❤️😯
I love Major Lance thank you for covering him! He was a big hit with UK fans of Sixties and Seventies Soul. The Monkey was a popular dance of the period along with the Watusi, Hitch Hike etc. The Torch was a club in Newcastle Under Lyme in the English Midlands.
Sweeter as the Days go by and Rhythm and many other classic songs he recorded, he also recorded for Motown if you didn't know...he was the top northern soul artist for years overseas until his passing..that's when Edwin Starr took his spot. But in England he is view as the Micheal Jackson star there and is much appreciated..YES! he needs to be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame..and by the way do a showcase video on Otis Leavil..he another artist that needs recognition I see you mention him in this video he deserves as much..and thank you for this..your doing your research real well. I'm hoping you oneday do and 70's soul group the Carstairs, The Modulations, etc. Thanks for the video. Keep posting them .
The building they showed I lived there from 1961 until 1974, moved out South but still went to Cooley High this music brought back memories but Monkey time is my all time favorite ❤️
I remember back in the 1960s Major Lance working in Harry's Drug Store on the northside of Chicago. He was always busy doing 10 things at one time, he dressed sharp and would win all the dance contests. "Thank You" Major Lance for your contribution to timeless music and I "Thank God" because I am still here in 2024 to remember the good old days...♥
You got that rite! ALL of those artist both men and women stayed sharp and dressed to the T. These sc(rappers) and hip(sloppers) today are nothing but worthless lame ducks! I remember a club in Chi called Slicks where the musicians played in front of a window inside the club. They didn't worry about drive-by shootings and thangs. Chi was that thang back in the 60s. WVON radio was poppin with the best dj's.
Nice vid, but check your geography - Cabrini Green was NOT on the 'northwest side of Chicago.' Cabrini could be considered north central, directly west of the Gold Coast. That neighborhood back then was called the Near North Side. As for Major, I spent my formative years seeing him perform at the Regal. And Chicagoans can tell who Curtis Mayfield was producing, b/c you can hear it. I still have music by him.
Obviously it's has to be a Hall of Fame for Soul Music. His 60s work is the highlight here. If you get a song written or produced by Curtis Mayfield. It's a hit!!! The album "Now Arriving" was from Motown but that went nowhere.
Rhythm and Minkey Tume was basically the only 2 sings that was worth it, most of his songs had no variations, of course those were the days of experimental ,had he had Smokey Robinson or Holland Dozier type of weitter/producer's, he would have been bigger,by the way, you can see where R.Kelly got his dance style from.
Hall of fame for who those who brought his records know he had a smooth voice every record wont be a hit u have to find right song writers etc he had the voive short run made a living during times of depression civil rights etc you will always be one of the best peoples champion my favorite monkey time matador umm umm umm umm

R Kelly was not a good dancer
What? Keisha Lance Bottoms father is Major Lance I heard of him within my dad's conversations how he can sing Chicago Soul circuit.

Always got room for The Monkey Time The Matador and of course Um Um Um Um Um Um

Work with Elton John
Elton John has a number of classic soul contacts. He was even Patti Labelle's piano player.
Hall of fame for who those who brought his records know he had a smooth voice every record wont be a hit u have to find right song writers etc he had the voive short run made a living during times of depression civil rights etc you will always be one of the best peoples champion my favorite monkey time matador umm umm umm umm
