There's a big difference between the Toyota AE86 EV restomod, which takes advantage of the lightweight RWD chasis and the electric instant torque for a very capable drift machine, and just swapping the Leaf powertrain into a GTR.
Some cars fit the EV treatment. I'd love an EV swapped VW Camper, for example. However, the R32's meant to have the RB motor. Thats the soul of that car.
Here's my take on electric resto mods. If you start with a car that originally had a weak engine like an old Triumph or MG, then you're good. But if you're using something that had an iconic engine like an RB26, 2JZ or even the flat 12 in the recently redone testarossa, you deserve to be flogged
I drove my R33 GT-R an hour to Kawgoe last night to get junk food at a store on Christmas night. Mostly to hear my RB26 for the trip there and back and do some spirited driving without heavy traffic. You kill the whole experience without that sound. They removed it's heart and soul.
I’m not a massive Skyline/GT-R fan, but I do have a preference for the R32, especially in regard to its appearances in Gran Turismo. It’s bad enough that I find most EVs to be generally uninteresting, but to take such an iconic model and convert it into an EV is just blasphemous. The RB26 engine is the heart and soul of this car. We like to hear Godzilla roar. This restomod just neuters it.
Well, if there was any sign of Nissan doing poorly before now they're just showing how powerless they truly are. I doubt Nissan will disappear altogether but their days as an independent company are very much numbered. And yes, you can't pick a worse car for an EV conversion. EV conversions are for cars that have nothing but style to them, meanwhile the R32 is one of the dullest legendaries ESPECIALLY stock.
Merry Christmas Mike. Nissan is desperate to fix their brand image but they are missing their mark by miles. Firstly by keeping the GTR (R35) in sale to long, Secondly by miss marketing the pricing of the newest Z and now electrifying a petrol engined which is famous for it's engine. I think they should have done this to a Skyline GTR '71 or an old Fairlady. What do you think?
Unnecessary from Nissan. Ruined a perfectly good car. I much preferred the restomodded AE86 Toyota revealed some years back because they actually respected the car's identity by making its actual engine hydrogen powered instead of making it a soulless EV
Feel like this is a overreaction. To me it feels like a pet project which i see this is as. Dont get me wrong, this should never be the future of the GTR, but its cool as a one off project. Also while this is a one off that wont exist for others, Nissan is doing the Nissan GTR CSR or Nismo's Clubman Race Spec. It's the ultimate restoration and tuning package for R32, R33, and R34 GT-Rs, straight from Nismo's famous Omori Factory in Tokyo. Every bolt, panel, and part is restored to better-than-new condition, with modern tech 1,007 upgrades and performance enhancements that make these legends feel like they just rolled off the line-if not better. Also part of the upgrade is the RB26 S2 or R4 Nismo engine or if you have the. R35 you get the S1 VR engine. This is something that Nissan will do for you albeit at extreme cost while this EV R32 is just a fad. I hope you talk about the CRS GTRs because they are an extremely cool program.
The only way i would see this working is if you need power to the front wheels so you add a motor to each front wheel. Kinda like the kit that came out for the type r civic. But full ev 🤮
Well, this is solid proof that Nissan is still out of touch. They could have gotten away with every other car in their entire lineup... Silvia, any of the older Z's, Pulsar... heck even President, Pao, or Rasheen to name a few. This is why Nissan has been mucking up for the past decade. They either do things that no one wants or try to copy Toyota but fail miserably, but pat themselves on the back and say "haters gonna hate." If some random guy did this mod, it's still controversial but "ok." When it's endorsed by Nissan, it's just a huge fail and cringe. I know regulations have changed but seriously, Nissan needs to dump its pride and just reproduce the R32/34 with minimal changes just to comply with modern standards. Or maybe it is a good thing since people will buy an EV R32 and rip its guys to shove in a RB26.
I'm an R32 Guy!❤ This car was the best invention and the car which made the way for the GT-Rs in the Future! It means much to the Japanese community and without this R32, it never would have been such a nice JDM Story with other cars in this direction made.🎉
@@EduardGenardAndalis I know but it's called KPGC10 or KPGC110. Also called Hakosuko or Kenmeri Skyline. But in Europe we don't hav seen any Hakosuka in 1971 and the Kenmeri was only build 500 times. Collectors Car now a day's. I know what U mean, but the R32 was the only legendary Skyline. I know there is an R30 & R31 (the first tuned car in 1987 in Japan). As U can see, I'm well informed, so that's why the R32 is the legendary Skyline.

Electric ae86 no thanks.
Both are heresy. There's no justifying either of them.

As a huge Skyline fan this disappoints me!
just make a new car with its own identity and fans will love that instead of beating a dead horse at least let it live out in honor
How to piss people off 101:
Nissan- let's take the best part out of one of our best cars and replace it with something that will make the fans mad
It's an insult for racing fans, JDM / Gran Turismo / Initial D fans by removing the legendary RB26
The whole car industry is an insult now because of crap chinese ev’s i”d rather have this than china garbage
Noooo not my old faithful from GT1 amd Gt2, loved this wagon with the spec 3 turbo

Dont agree at all with the first take

Why would anyone do that to a R32 GTR

Meanwhile in The Crew Motorfest... 😅
Man that r32 made my day worse
Completely unnecessary, ruined a perfectly good car.
I actually dig it
@@LynxErgo no you don't
When you get a car you can do what you want with it
@LynxErgo of course you do... it seems like everyone wants electric restoratiom builds... what happenend to having cars with actual engines.
I would love it 👊
You were the chosen one, you were supposed to bring balance to JDM, not destroy it
i think it’s cool. i would purchase one.
This is old news. This car has been around for a while now
It was being built since last year. Now its finished.
This body design became cool because of what was underneath the body. And they fucking removed it.
NOOOO
Personally, I'd buy a Zeekr 001FR instead. Because I can :)
Need the wheels from this EV R32
Its one thing if they are making a new EV r32 style car vs converting an r32 into a ev. My thoughts
The only thing I like about it are the wheels
Bow it up

I'll buy it and put an RB on that bit...
This gave me pain
If it was a brand new car, it would be pretty cool. If it was a original example, it is awful, in my opinion.

Mecha Godzilla
No wonder they’re going bankrupt
Electric cars is dead end
The next diesel arc, minus the long term practicality
I think it’s a great idea! The power must be insane
They ruined it smh. What the hell were Nissan thinking by electrifying Godzilla? That's a shame amd crime against the car community right there.

Noooo its perfect the it is why would make it fully electric that's dumb
All those who are against electric cars are hypocrites. "Oh you don't like electric motors oh, remove your starter than. Be a man"
This is a automotive icon that got butchered
We want engine sounds not a Bluetooth speaker playing fake sounds 😂

R32 & GT-R in general won’t exist without the C10 & C110, a Vintage GT-R that started the GT-R as a whole.
