Looks like they have a quality control issue where these filters are manufactured? Sad thing is almost everyone will never notice this that buys fram filters.

This does not look to be a quality control issue but rather a product desing change.

Be nice if they addressed the problem instead of just sending you more filters in hopes youll be happy with that!😅

I was told 20 years ago to never, ever use Fram filters. I only use OEM filters.

You really need to do some research. Many of the OEM filters are absolute garbage and produced by aftermarket companies like Purolator, Champion & Fram. Often times being basically the same as the aftermarket companies bottom of the line filter.

@@peskypeetyou are the one who needs to do more research if you think that a Fram filter is better than an OEM like Motorcraft. I bought a new Ford and I put over 250,000 miles on it using the Motorcraft filter and oil. And the engine ran like it was new still.

@@peskypeetand I fully understand that ford does not make their own filters or oil, that those products are received from vendors who brand it for Ford. But they don’t get suppliers to provide them with crappy oil and filters. It could be that the Motorcraft stuff is actually a Mobil oil and filter.

@@newfie-dean5803 Purolator has been making the Motorcraft filters for Ford for many years. That is well known. Other than their base end bypass there is nothing special about them. They look to be about the same filter media as the old Classic line, definitely not the PureOne line. It takes more than a silicone ADBV to be a PureOne filter. AC seems to be using Champ Labs for their stuff. Most of them pretty much look like a bottom of the line SuperTech filter. However they do have a higher optioned one with better build quality & specifications.
There's so many pictures posted on the net it's pretty easy to compare. All you have to do is search and pay attention to the date. Some of the foreign makes use stuff from Japan and other places so it's a bit harder. Toyota even uses one of those three US companies to produce at least one filter for them.
If you ever question what you have you can easily purchase an oil filter cutter for $15-$20 or simply use a pair of tin snips if you have those. Then look at pictures on the net to compare.

It's my understanding that the Ultra & Titanium filters are no longer being made with the wire backing at all. It's also my understanding that the cores on both of those have been changed to the louvered style.
You should probably look at the production date code. It is very likely you got some filters right around the changeover or you got a couple of old stock filters.
I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned on BITOG but there are reports of the media tearing on some of the NON wire backed filters but I can't remember if it was the Ultra or the Titanium.
I know one BITOG member started using Purolator Boss filters when Fram stopped using the wire backing in the Ultra's. Then a bit ago he stated he stopped using the Boss filters not because of a component change but because of quality control issues. I believe he mentioned he is now using the Fram Endurance filters.
