Hi Evan, Once again you have given a subtle, spot-on and exquisitely nuanced reading / performance of a fabulous work of Hammett. I can't imagine this story ever having a better performance than you have given it so you have created a work of permanent importance. Thank you.
@@evanmercer9997 Hi Evan. You've already done a fabulous job on "Scorched Face" which is my favorite Hammett Story. I think the "Gutting of Couffignal" is an endlessly fascinating small masterpiece. It's a story too that opened up new territory for Hammett as a writer. I can't imagine "Red Harvest," for example, without having first worked through "Couffignal." But there is something else about that story that fascinates me. While Hammett's key role in the history of detective fiction has been endlessly explored "Couffignal" is seminal work in the quite different genre of the adventure thriller. At any rate I've loved that story for thirty years and a dramatic reading would be a huge gift to me and innumerable other listeners now and in the future. All best wishes. Thomas
You are fantastic! That gravelly voice fits so well with the material. I'm going to listen/watch all of your narrations. I wish you had a hundred of them!

Thank you, Thomas. You are so kind. Any specific stories that you would like to see me do next? Evan

Amazing narrator, thank you!!!
Brilliant! This is awesome :). Who doesn’t love having a story read to them and now I can see the reader too.
This was delightful to watch and listen to. Incredibly talented man you are!
This story was delightfully narrated! What a treat. Thank you so very much for the good story and the wonderful, talented narrator.
I have heard so many bad readings of classic detective lit. This has style, rhythm and character. Can’t believe I’m listening for free.
Evan. I love your narration. Perfect voice for the story. Thank you
I really enjoyed listening to your voice and the background venue
Thank you for making Hammett's stories come alive
So much fun. My dad was a detective , and I think you have down pat that understated, phlegmatic, world-weary demeanor. Love it.
Fabulous! Many thanks from a Hammett fan!
Evan is your best hire yet, Tony. This was awesome. I want more from you Evan. Thanks great story great read 1:48:10
