I have the problem with BOTH of the rear window regulators. I previously struggled with one so this video has been a big help. Seeing (at least partially seeing) you wrestle with the mechanism is an education in itself. Thanks for that.

I had to do this for the Right Rear window. Your help was invaluable. I had also seen another vid that the cable was too tight. and mine was. So I took a Dremel tool and cut about half an inch off the cable housing so it would fit. But you got the bench top fix of this done well. Oh the price of cable was $21 now. But it sure did beat what would have paid at a garage, and taught my nephew how to do this. Thank you!

Great video but I thought it might be worth making some observations that might help others.
To remove/fit the window regulator with the glass the glass must be in the raised position.
If the motor is not operational it will be necessary to release both of the cables, this is possible by removing the plastic block that secures the end of the cables. The glass can then be pulled up to the top.
On my car the motor would not move the glass up whilst the roof was down, not sure why but worth checking before replacing the motor and finding it does the same as the old one!

Does the motor need to be set to a specific position in the up/down cycle before you fit it back on the regulator?
I put duct tape over the spool. . Take a little alcohol on the plastic for better stick.
Presently own a 2003 VW conv. GLS 4cyl 2.0, need a owner's manual.
This video shows what terribly bad design and quality this brand is, especially on the example New Beetle. This is what i can say as an owner of such a vehicle

Having difficulty get the window and regulator out. Window will not budge. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? So frustrating
Tina Slone Hi if your still having problems see my comments.
You need the zip tie, because otherwise the cable can hit the bolt of the regulator while moving up and down. Don't use a bigger one because of the same problem! The cable will move if you operate the regulator, it needs some space also to do this. f it's build in, everything reinstalled it will make you angry if this zip tie is not properly installed, because you have to open up again.

The real questions is.. How true is it that one actually has to remove the entire back seat in order to get to the rear window regulator? (Sad Face)
Believe it or not, taking the rear seat out is the easy part.
