Hey Rich.. I know this is an old video.. Helped me out today. Laughed put loud when you said near the end "after taking half the car off" 😆 Yup! Seems that way. Your video was the best of all I found on this topic.
Why do you need to take lock and handle off? I took one out today and didn’t take handle and lock out. I did loosen latch to replace handle cable. Buy I don’t see going the extra steps
,actually, this is a clever design in production speed views. One piece allowing for quick installation at the factory, just hooking connectors and screws. The downside being, is you have to replace something, you have to replace the lot, and replacement is a batch lol. Nice vid

Can they possibly make the car any cheaper? Good God.
You have to (carefully) loosen and than push the screw in oder to take the lock cylinder out!
Just wiggling doesn’t do the job in most cases.
There’s a groove and a mechanism that holds the lock tight in place. It’s a common mistake.
Question is the door panel upper trim the same for convertible and hard top

Im glad im not the only one that mentally muttered "pile of crap", im sorry but that isnt what i call a beetle, your beetle is to my taste, can you tell im biased ha ha :-))
Ive seen those fake beetles around the uk, and i cant stop myself saying "not a real one", the propper beetle has personality, modern junk is all smoothed and looks like it plopped out of a jelly mould.
Its like the "mini", the original was mini and minimal, new versions made by bmw (i think) are fat and no longer mini :-(
How dare they call this a beetle.

Door lock does not need to be removed.
vw are horrible to work on ... just picked up an 01 beetle tdi 5spd ... needs pass. window motor and a drivers door lock actuator.... so ill at least be the the car doors 2 , 3 , 4 times just to get this thing straightened out
