Thank you Ian. Parts are $150 and labor, well . . . Most important, your video took the fear out of doing it myself. The bottom corners were separated, so now was the time to do it before it got worse. You're a confidence builder.
Even without a top, I'd enjoy it. My first car was a '54 Austin Healey 100-4 in 1964.. I've wanted a roadster since. My '01baseball version lived in San Diego until I drove it, non stop to OH two years ago. Sometimes it's just fun to sit in it and enjoy the aesthetics. The center sun visor and dowel to line up the spare tire on the rotor are just two of first class accoutrements I've discovered. My next project is to install puddle lights on the bottom of the doors which will show the Audi logo. I've not seen any videos doing it with a Dremel to make the rectangle accurate. Thank you again Ian. @@ianpgonzaga
Hi Ian,thank you for your video really well explained! I have a Porsche 996 with the same problem. Can I ask where you purchased the 3m products in Australia?
Excellent video, thanks for making the process look straightforward, nicely explained and executed. Mine has only just started to come away and will be attempting this shortly!
Omg I prayed for such a detailed video for an audi. This is perfect and your such a handsome instructor with perfect skin. Lol. Ty. Im excited to start. Stay blessed 🙏
Really well done. Thank you for sharing. I have a 2011 S5 cabriolet with a few areas on the rear window that have delaminated. I’m going to follow your process so that it doesn’t extend itself all the way around! Thank you for sharing your repair video.
Thanks for watching and glad it's helpful. I have also used this same process for the Mk2 TT where the soft top has two "skins". I think it would be the same with your S5 Cabriolet... Audi made them nicer by making an inner skin to cover the frame. The process worked 👌
Great video. My Mini Cooper Roadster just dropped the rear window out this past week. I'll be using your video as my template for the fix this weekend. You seem to have the most complete that I've seen. The only thing I'm going to do is completely remove the window to start. It's still held a bit, but I only want to do this once so I will seal the entire window. As I stated below in my comment to one of the other people the primer is getting difficult to locate but I was able to call the local automotive paint store who actually had it on hand.
Thanks Thom glad you found my video helpful and super thanks for the tipoff on where to get the primer from. Seems like a rare item for some reason! Good luck with your repair... I'd be too scared to remove it completely and start afresh!!! 🙈
Fantastic explanation and video! I'm about to tackle this job on a 2002 Cabrio with the same issue. A new top is pretty over $1000, so really hoping this repair holds!
EXCELLENT and well explained, amazing job looks awesome nice to see my wood effort included 😂 I just wanted pressure and improvised with what I had it worked well. I used Sika SikaTitan 258 Primerless Windscreen Adhesive which is used in most car window screens these days. I will be sure to point people to your video as so many have same issue. Again well done Ian 👏
I watched it a few times and still don't quite understand how the clamps actually work. Obviously they do - but my stupid brain needs to think about it for a while. This is way better than another car I've seen, where they have stitched a plastic window in it's place
thanks for the video Ian. the most detailed, informative, easiest to follow and well produced [time stamped, listed chapters etc] that i have viewed. are you in Australia? 3m tell me they don't stock windo-weld here and have no siliar product. $70-$90 if i ebay. i have only 15cm to repair and feel the rest of the tube will go off before being used. thanks again for the amazing video. rodiebo
Awesome Video. Seriously!! Thank You. Can you tell me if you need to glue down that fabric strip that goes around the window on the inside of the glass?
Thanks John. That strip is kind of difficult to glue down. If you can then do it but I tried my best and it's mostly peeled off. It doesn't impact the seal though. If you have it right at the glass that extra fabric strip is really just a vanity covr.
Very well made video, thank you very much. I have an Audi A3 carbrio that started peeling in a corner, only a little bit to leak inside. Can I apply the glue without the primer ? I don't know how to apply it since it is still very tigh, honestly I don't even know how to squeeze the glue, it is way tighter that the last leak repair in your video. Thank you very much
Hey there. I think the later models (like the TT Mk2 ) can be done but they're double skinned. You might have to do the repair when there's some slack in the fabric.
Thank you! Same method worked for mine, and I didn't find any leak from spray leak test. However the spot leaks after a rainy day. Maybe it is the water actually seeping through the fabric around the area? Do you have any idea on this?
Thanks Chris. Not sure if they're able to be bought here any more... Might be able to get it in from online. Otherwise look at Sikaflex for something similar.
Hi, what kind of silicone did you use ? I have to do the same on my Mustang unfortunately and i might put a vinyl or something less fragile than a glass
Hey there. You can see the product I've used using the timestamps in the description. Pretty sure I was organised enough back then so it's easy to find the info 😋
Hi. Thanks for the video. My window has come completely out and no hood specialists will touch the mk1 TTs to rebons as apparently they just dont stick well compared to other models. Just wondering how well this has lasted for you?
Has your glass started to peel? Fix it NOW! Otherwise you risk it getting quite bad like mine (which you don't want). Does anyone have any tips to prevent this glass peeling from happening?
Sorry, preventing is not possible. It’s a glue aging process that causes the issue. Having a garaged TT helped but at 15 years I replaced the top. Thanks
Hey Jeremy. Yeah you can still do it. Just clean the area up to remove as much dirt as possible. I did this the other day without the primer on a Mk2 droptop and it still held.
I'm not sure if you've found the primer but I just bought some this week. I ended up at a automotive paint store (NAPA Paints here in the US) where they had some of the little bottles like Ian used.
Thank you Ian. Parts are $150 and labor, well . . . Most important, your video took the fear out of doing it myself. The bottom corners were separated, so now was the time to do it before it got worse. You're a confidence builder.
