I was born in December 56 which seems to surprise some people and about 5 years ago had to make a delivery to a customer called Cathy Kirby in Bermondsey, London. When she answered her door, as a joke I covered my eyes claiming I feared being dazzled by her glossy red lipstick and bottle blonde hair. The customer, who may have been 70 but not much more, just laughed and said I must be older than I look. She had obviously heard all the jokes before but not from anyone of what she viewed as the "young generation".

I met Kathy under a stressful situation. As a steeplejack, I had the job of erecting a tall chimney at the Mansions she was living. This entailed a lot of shouting from the ground to the roof and we started work early morning. One day I shouted up to my mate and I had to duck a flying wine bottle hurled from the top floor followed by a torrent of expletives. It was Kathy screaming for me to shut up. "I need some ****** sleep" she screamed. Not wanting to upset a lady I admired so much I went out the following day and purchased some walkie talkies so we didn't need to shout anymore. I'm glad I did. A couple of days later, I found out that the notorious gangster Jack Spot lived there as well and it would have been more than wine bottles coming my way! Tom

Being a gentleman of age I didn't mention a certain Mr Forsythe in my comment.. 'Brucie' was a Jack the lad if ever I met one. When Kathy was giving me a right ear bashing the door opened and who popped out to escort Kathy back into the flat? Non other than our Brucie! And that wasn't my only encounter with Mr Forsythe. I lived next door to a young lady who's best friend was Ann Sydney the winner of Miss Universe 1964. Who was on the voting panel? Our Brucie. One day I had the pleasure of driving Ann home to her little mews flat. "Bang on the door Tom" she said and Surprise Surprise who opened the door? You've got it, 'Nice to see you, nice to see you'. I sometimes wondered if Bruce got on the Miss World show so he could 'pull' the winner, well he did marry one! Both Bruce and Kathy were great entertainers and gave a lot of happiness to countless people. They are sorely missed and their families have every right to be proud of them. Yes she quoted 40,000 pounds herself in an interview which I thought would have been a lot these days, thank you for working that out 😁👌 What shocked me the most about her in her later years was how humble she was about everything bad that had happened to her. She didn't hold a grudge or harbor ill feelings about anything or towards Bert Ambrose and always loved him throughout her life. She was one amazing woman that's for sure Chris ❤
