    Hello Crista, I am looking forward to your next segment on the indexing process. Regarding indexing many times a record shows up and the name is misspelled due to an misinterpretation of the handwriting. In times past a person could submit a correction to the record and I don't see that feature any longer. Is this something you would consider by allowing users to suggest changes to what was indexed? Also, another item I would like to see is having the ability to adjust the positioning of name tags of people in photos by dragging them so they are better aligned in relationship not only to the subject of the tag, but also in relative position with the other tags you've added to the photo. The present tool doesn't give you precise control of where the tag is placed so the ability of dragging it to a slightly different position would help with alignment issues.

    Thank you for your quality checks, as signatures are so meaningful when you don't have a photograph. I was lucky enough to have access to a letter my great grandfather handwrote to the Australian Military regarding the death of his son during WW1. The content of the letter was important but so was seeing his handwriting. If I don't have a photograph I select a record with their signature as the profile pic. It is the next best thing!

    I love this series, but I have a question on indexing. I use City Directories extensively and add corrections when I find errors. However there are often names that are skipped in the indexing. Sometimes large sections of a page or even entire pages are omitted. I would love to add the information for these names but there doesn't seem to be any way to do that. I would be willing to help add to the indexing for these omitted names. Am I missing a way to do it, or can I submit a spreadsheet or document with the data?

    Social Security Death Index = Only the date issued/applied with the social security number is available via Ancestry records. It's my opinion that more of the application should be available that would possibly indicate spouse, divorce, children & other family connected information that could link the person to the family. This is a topic area where a 'field trip' to their location would have been great. That way you/we would get to see in action. I am curious as to the technologies now used to capture images for both archiving and uploading to Ancestry's image database. Have we progressed to any type of multi-spectral imaging in hopes of teasing out hard to read manuscript material? Is there any newer technology available to revisit microfilmed US Federal census records? As most/all of the original census forms are not available, the NARA microfilm is all we have and sometimes the image quality is poor. I find this whole area fascinating both in the process and shear scale. Thanks

    Hi Crista.
    I was wondering if Ancestry would consider adding a feature where as in a profile it states the relationship of that person to whoever you have set as you home person. Some can be hard to track backwards to see how exactly. It would be great to have a button to click that would show on family view the home person then every person in the link to the current person. Example I have the relationship of "paternal 1st cousin of husband of stepdaughter of husband of 1st cousin 3x removed", to try to find how that person connects to me is daunting. Thanks

    My dad and I went to the courthouse in Sherman, Texas to look up records. They sent us to the land records, which were nicely stored in cloth covered books on rolling racks. But we wanted to look at the tax records. They reluctantly let us go to the other side of the basement where most things were tossed around on scattered tables and file cabinets (not in them) and in no order. Some of the covers, that contained content information, were broken off. No quality control in that side of the basement.

    When an Ancestry account goes dormant, does the clock stop on the privacy status of living persons in that tree, or will the Private designations be removed when those individuals age out? You might want to talk about legacy issues and the death of account holders. Does Ancestry have staff who handle those issues? I've read the page about access upon the death of a user.

    I'm always wondering why the query function doesn't work like a real database query. For example, I want only records with an exact name spelling from an exact spelling state I get nothing; but when I allow everything or looser queries, I get hundreds or thousands of pages of information I can't possibly search through in one lifetime. Is this accurate?

    • @AncestryUS
      @AncestryUS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thank you for the question. If you have Native American DNA, it will appear in your ethnicity results as the Indigenous Americas region. It is important to note that not everyone with an Indigenous American ancestor has Indigenous American DNA. Only half of a person’s DNA is passed on to their child, so with each generation that passes, the potential exists for DNA from any given ancestor to be lost. If you have Indigenous American ancestors, but Indigenous American ethnicity doesn't appear in your DNA results, it may be worthwhile to test your grandparent, parent, or sibling.

      @MrDannyDetail ปีที่แล้ว

      My hunch is that each individual Thruline, being a connection between two people, is something that can only exist if both people are legally consenting for the other to see it. In other words if you make your tree private and unsearchable then that also has the effect of you not allowing the other person to use any element of your tree to know how they might be related to you (and Thrulines would be using at least some element of your tree in order to work for everyone you'd have a Thruline with), which prevents the Thruline from being able to exist, which in turn means that none of your Thrulines can exist, whilst each of your matches that would have had it are only missing the one involving you. If you change your tree to 'private searchable' rather than 'private unsearchable' then I believe that allows you to have Thrulines working, whilst keeping your tree private. An alternative is to create a very basic public tree of just ancestor names and birth/death years (and make sure any living ancestors are entered as living, and maybe ungendered, to keep them privatised), and connect your DNA to that rather than to your detailed private tree.
