    The game is looking better and better with each devlog, and as I've said numerous times, it is a blast to play. You, Rachel and Noah are doing an amazing job, and thanks for recording the journey for us to see, its really fun to wait for these every wednesday and see the game evolve

    It’s so nice to see a devlog in gamemaker, there’s so few of us. Wish nothing but the best for this game

      I used to use Gamemaker, since I wanted to make a game similar to Undertale. But I switched over to Godot. I still prefer 2d, and despise engines that place too much emphasis on 3d, but it's nice to have 3d support. You know, for some possible minigames. But you do you! The engine doesn't really matter anyway. Every 'making the same game in different engines' video has proved that. And I can't wait to see TetherGeist join the ranks of iconic Gamemaker games! It'll be right up there with Undertale and Hotline Miami.

    0:24 I agree, first impressions matter, thats why im already in love with this game

    Those purple areas look absolutely fantastic. My only suggestion for this would be to have the character influence some of the particles within the smoke area as the player passes through it. A little jiggle or wobble would do wonders. The waterfall however seems to be breaking your pixelart aesthetic even though it looks good. You have smooth gradients on the waterfall and more importantly you have a soft round non pixel art mist animations. I would look around a bit more for some inspiration on how other games have handled their waterfalls, the pixelart in the game looks so good, I'm sure your team can tackle the waterfall too!

    I'm really enjoying these dev logs. The content is interesting and focused, and presentation is crisp. I love hearing about the little micro decisions that go into the art direction i.e. the Venn Diagram vs one continuous object.
    Finally the art is beautiful. This is the Pixel art quality I enjoy the most and would love to grow my skills to match.

    As a fellow GameMaker indie dev, it was great to see your process for procedurally generating these objects. The look and feel you achieved with them is fantastic! Thanks for the video, and keep up the fantastic work!

    GOD. This looks absolutely phenomenal. The art, the gameplay, the story.....Hah. You know, I can just tell that this is going to be in my top 5 favorite games. It's even gonna beat out Celeste! Seriously, watching this masterpiece come together is a blast. It's simply amazing, and I hope that my game will be half as good as yours. This game is going to be iconic. I will make sure of it! As soon as it comes out, I'll play it on my YT channel! (Well, maybe not as soon as. I don't know about the exact timing. But I will definitely play it!)

    My only problem is the background and the foreground is almost the same shade you can't tell the difference and its hard to know were the platforms are

      @OandCoGames  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hehe you're not alone! The town is really giving us a challenge.. we've tried implementing those blue platforms, but they're probably still not enough. We'll nail down the contrast on those platforms eventually 😅

    I probably wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the gorgeous art! At least to me, especially as a customer, it’s very important. Great job! The smoke still feels kinda off in my opinion though, though that could definitely be fixed with lore alone hah, just don’t be too married to the status quo! :D

    I would make it a little more dramatic when you go into the smoke. For example that the edges of the screen get a little blurry and there is a soundeffect

    I'm only saying this with a good intent and reason for you to (faster) finish the game. I worked as a VFX Artist in a AA game and honestly I didn't like %80 the detail that goes into your particles, especially the purple one.
    I'm saying it to maybe help to be able to accomodate your time better.
    Also worh reminding that perfect is the enemy of the good.
    Cheers and can't wait to play your game!

  • @outercloud
    @outercloud ปีที่แล้ว

    The new effects look really nice however it does feel a bit off! I suspect that it's because the animations don't run at a low frame rate like the other pixel art. Maybe try experimenting with the frame rate. I think it would lead to a more cohesive visual.

  • @DavideScarioni
    @DavideScarioni ปีที่แล้ว

    Both are really stunning and beautiful effects! Only a question: why do you use 3 separated sprite for the waterfall instead of using only one with the Nine-Slice sprite option?

    • @OandCoGames
      @OandCoGames  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because I forgot the 9-slice option was a thing 😅

      @@carrickmullin5547 lol that's fair. I only have the game to play with some buddies, so I'm not really sure what my rank is... most of my "guilt playing" goes into AOE2...

    I'm very curious, how did you use the objects' parents to make the effects?
    (sorry if I miss some words, I'm not a native speaker)

    • @OandCoGames
      @OandCoGames  ปีที่แล้ว

      Each "child" object has its own independent code, but that code includes variables and x/y coordinates that are assigned by the parent object when the parent object creates it.

    • @lksxxtodin5292
      @lksxxtodin5292 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OandCoGames So you can change how everyting goes by changing the variables of just one object! Thank you soo much, im gonna test it myself and see what I can do

    I really like how it looks but I think that when the smoke follows the player a little (4:28) it could be a little more dramatic where more of the actual smoke (purple part) follows and more of the particles follow. In addition to this, although it is important for gameplay readability, having the smoke and the water fall be perfectly straight lines looks a little unnatural. The waterfall could look a little more natural if the width wavered on eachside by 2-5 pixels and the smoke could look a little better if it maybe flowed a little bit more at the edges (the actual purple part has less defined edges). Also the smoke particles maybe shouldn't overlap the walls as much but it is hard to tell as the walls are still placeholder.

    Question, in average, how many hours it took you to code those two tasks?

    • @OandCoGames
      @OandCoGames  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They both took about 4 to 6 hours each.

    The direction and art is amazing, The mechanic also helps a lot for the feel. But how it plays out still looks awkward too me, I really wish I could be more helpful but the core mechanic feels like it slows you down in a weird way. Hope it's not a common complaint and it's just a me problem :D I really want too see your game succeed!
