Each of those band members have made sacrifices to be where they are … there for our enjoyment. Parents started them years ago on musical instruments, drove them to band practices, and supported them all the way. Untold hours bring them to this parade. Bands receive so little recognition. Im just a fan of WISCOs unique step they incorporate.... They're all great to watch and you're right....band members should get a lil of the recognition.

why do they bounce around marching while playing and then revert to a standard march style while not playing? That jumping style must be a hardship on trying to play an instrument. marching like that would have my mouthpiece all over my face. Even the drum lines looks awkward straddling a drum.
😂. You can’t “wow” a Southern California crowd. How are they supposed to be impressed when the best marching band lives in their city. That would be the Trojan Marching Band of USC!
Sure you can. Just watched a video of a USC marching band performance. For a "marching" band they sure seem to just walk from point a to point b. Very pedestrian. If they didn't have the Song Girls dancing around, no one would care.
@@AndyMatts44. Ummm. That isn’t true bud. Fist of all, they are not military style. Second of all, they are rated the best marching band in US. Sooooo.
Imagine having such a bouncy marching style that you have to hold your trombone by the bell to play. The marching totally has its own pazaz but it seems unnecessary. You can literally hear their tonal changes every time they step.
Thats the "old style" high step that bands did back in the day. Its very hard to do and play. I like the glide step better but this is impressive to me.
I’ve never been able to comprehend how these guys can eek out any noise from an instrument while jiggle-bouncing violently. As one with many years of brass and wood instrument background; peddling around like a show pony will 1) embarrass those doing the pony work, and 2) compromise the output of the instrument and 3) bruise the lips and face of the musician. As a former accomplished musician and several time drum major, this pony prance garbage is the worst I’ve ever seen from a college band. Shame, shame shame on anyone who’s directed these kids.
Get over yourself, the fans love it and so does the band. When replacing Mike Lekrone, they refused to play for any director who was planning to change the stop-at-the-top style
You could almost hear the band playing under the incessant blather of the announcers.

Totally agree!!! At 01:59 instead of listening to tune for a while, this cow needs to express herself ...
Very proud Badger here- 1968!
This fight song still puts a huge smile on my face!
Go Badgers!
Bringing the energy! Awesome band!

Im looking at their marching technique and imma be real, i dont think i could play well while doing that. Very interesting
I personally am not of fan of that style...but they do it well and sound good doing it.
I could never imagine this being the Gophers song instead of the Minnesota Rouser.
How many are in that band? Holy crap!

I graduated in 72 (JD) and in those days, the band was the best thing to watch. The football team did improve however.
didn't know Terrel Owns filled in for the Drum Major..guy gets around i say
Looks like the Ministry of Silly Walks is the next stop for the band members. It cannot be easy to play an instrument walking like that.
They call it stop-at-the-top. Designed by former band director Mike Lekrone, who served as marching band director for 50 years!
It's because we're better than Minnesota.

They switch because the high step is there normal marching style and they walk to rest
That is their standard march. They've been marching that way for many decades.
How can they play bouncing arounde like that????
Practice
It was a rhetorical question. I was in band myself. I know it takes practice. It's just amazing how good they are.
