As a Dane it really impresses me big time how people from as far-away places as South America and Asia are so interested in learning Danish and studying Denmark! Kudos to you, I am really struck with awe, amazement and the utmost respect for you! You are amazing! And I really mean like, getting-on my-knees-and-bowing-before-you respect. **bows** :)

Wow, that's so great! Currently I'm trying to learn some Danish as well. Could you help me with pronunciation? Also I've already masterize how to do the soft D but the stød is a little bit trick for me.

If you want to pronounce danish words correctly, read half of the word as you normally would and then just make a lazy weird sound at the end of it - most of the times you will be pronouncing it correct xD

      Actually not THAT hard.
If you have a base of English and German it's much easier. German for the similar vocabulary and since the Danes invaded England in the 8th century, they gave us our grammar, so sentence structure is not that different in comparison to German or Romance Languages.

    • @annahald8346

Stød could either mean electrocution- like when someone gets electrocuted
Thrust or bump. Like when you fall and hit the grund or when you bump into someone on the street.
"Jeg stødte ind i din mor den anden dag"
Also, when you "støder" someone, you offend them, directly translated.

    • @lohphat
      @lohphat 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Simple. The stød (glottal stop) used in English occasionally -- we just don't call it out as a spelling/pronunciation feature -- it just happens:
      1. Spell the word "be" -- e.g. bee, ee -- the pause between the letters is the stød.
      2. The word "water", "bottle", and "butter" in a London Cockney accent. e.g. "wo'ahh" and "bo'ull" and "bu'uh".
      3. Initial vowels at the start of a sentance (or after a consonant): "This is a test." -- the stød happens before "is".

    The way I've heard the 'A, æ, o, æ...' one, is 'A, æ, u, å, æ, ø, i, æ, å, æ, a!'.
In a Jutlandic Danish dialect, it means 'Jeg er ude på en ø, i en å, er jeg' (I am out on an island, in a stream, I am).

And we have to grow up with this nonsense... No wonder surveys say our educational system is almost as bad as the American - danish is almost impossible to learn, even for Danes! And I grew up in North Jutland, where people's accent was atrocious to boot. I remember growing up with "A æ o æ ø i æ å, æ a!" and no one not from a very specific region of North/West Jutland will be able to figure out its meaning (it's an actual sentence, as spoken by someone with a Jutland accent, not just a random collection of letters)

    the a, æ, o, æ, ø, i, æ, å, æ, a!
    sounds like a miswritten version of the sentence "a u å a ø i a å!"
which translated to danish from it's jotland accent would be jeg er ude på en ø i en å (i'm on a island in a kanal).
But being from Sjælland i can understand why you might have missed it.
