We definitely have our feet planted on the ground. When I think re it France and England had tons of Enlightenment philosophers; most of the Danish guys: Kepler, Brahe, later on Niehls Bohr, were scientists. HC Andersen's stories are not happy. We keep our feet pretty well planted on the ground. Sometimes too much so. Also, she speaks excellent English. And I think Denmark tried to sell Greenland to the US at some point but we passed. I admit it shouldn't be this way but sadly it is. If you've openly said that you want a person they'll loose interest in you. But Danish dating aren't easy. Good luck :p

I'm of Danish descent (like 9th generation) living in America and I've always been considered strange by everyone else (ex. potatoes everyday and I love licorice) and after watching this video, I'm more Danish than I realized!! XD I guess it stays in your genes hahaha
My grandfather was Danish and I always been uncomfortable with being praised or when getting awards and recognitions. Now that I heard the law of jante it made me realize maybe that's where all comes from. I do think some things pass on the genes...
My boyfriend is Danish (I'll be moving to Denmark to live with him in march)... most of the meals I've gotten while visiting him have evolved at least 3 types of potatoes. includes French potatoes, brown potatoes and fries. it's nice but holy shit...

Thumbs up! I just moved to Copenhagen from New York and its amazing how much the cities overlap. And yes... remoulade! Where have you been all my life??
Yeah, as danish we eat oat flakes for breakfast, rye bread(using a sourdough and seeds) with sliced/pasted meat toppings for lunch, and for dinner depending on who it is some mix of potato, rice or pasta with pork, chicken or beef. We have a lot of bakeries so bread is also common at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also love hotdogs, Germany our neighbor is constantly making sausages so us being part of that culture is not weird. I love Remoulade which is basically blended piccalilli(a relish of chopped pickled vegetables and spices) with mayo
I want to move to Denmark. it seem beautiful and happy. I'm sure I could handle the weather. plus I like that whole be realistic about your goals. I wish people here would think things through like that. anyways I'm already learning Danish and I hope to save up enough money to move from the USA to Denmark. any advice?
+Super Wog As someone who's 1/8 Danish, I assure you they're not albino, since being albino is a single trait (trust me - neither my grandpa, who's 1/2 Danish, nor anyone related to him, are albino). Also, albino humans have purple eyes.
Hey Kelly! I'm glad I bumped into your videos. I'm coming to Copenhagen in Denmark to study in a Master's program at UCPH. I'm learning from your expert advice on Danish culture! :D
Det er trist når man har glædet sig til at spise fritter med remulade til aftensmad, og ens far så har købt en remulade der ikke smager godt ;-; the regrets of letting my dad buy the remulade ... DAMN YOU
Yet another video from a Dane that points toward a lack of aspirations among the people being a main reason for what they consider happiness. So far this is universal in the almost a dozen vids I've seen so far.
It's is true about the cold beer. However we also drink lukewarm beer, varm beer, stale beer, even beer way beyond expirantion. I don't believe our happiness is as much about low expectation, as it is about a sense of security and safety. University tuition is paid by tax, as is healthcare. So you can get an education and a heart transplant without being tens of thousands of euros in debt, which does put a smile on your face. Kelly is right about complete strangers in public though, I always assume they want to sell me something. I believe this is a unique Danish and American trait. I just recently got back from a 6 month stint in New Zealand, and even on the streets of Auckland-NZ's largest city, total strangers will stop you to ask how you are. They do this in Australia aswell, but in New Zealand they actually wait for an answer! So strange but also quite refreshing :)
Hold Nu kæft jeg er færdig af grin 😂😂 du forstår virkelig at fortælle den nøgne sandhed om Danmark og danskerne, også endda med humor 👌🏻 Well done 💪🏼✌🏻️
Not crossing on red light is a great habit, believe me. It has to be freaking subconscious. I've been to Copenhagen and I loved this feature (among lots of other features that made me fall in love with the city)
Don't worry, you're not alone with the stoplight thing. I lived in Germany for 3 years, and most of the people there would wait for the lights to change too, even if there weren't any cars. They would always give us evil looks when we would cross the street early. lol
I do t set my self up for goals because my grandparents would always turn me down of (unrealistic) dreams I had before this video I thought they just didn't think I could do it but now I know why XD
No offense, but you sound exactly (your accent) how I envisioned my G-grandmother's speech would have been! Taler du 'uffda' derre også? Do you say 'Uffda' there also?
hello kelly, im just curious about something... if you are not that social people... so do you have Facebook or Twitter... I mean is it widely used? thank you
+Mhammad Darwesh Denmark is the nation in the world with the most people on social media. Generally Danes are super social to people they know. But generally not social when going from A to B, as a kind of politeness and privacy thing, which sometimes means interfering to little with strangers you meet along the way but catch them in a place where they aren't going from A to B and they'll be super social towards strangers as well.
+Fortune Finder im sure Danes are really nice polite people... I have talked once with a Danish couple they were super gentle, super kind... I wish everyone in the world as nice as Danes :)
+Mhammad Darwesh its like that if you walk by someone they wont expect you to say hi but if you do they will smile and greet you back we don't crave social behavior from strangers but we do like it
Well a lot of us Danes can speak English, just say "Hey, sorry for at genere dig, men kan du tale engelsk?" if they say Ja then speak English if they say Ingen ask someone else, but the most important phrase to use for a tourist in Denmark is "Hvor er den nærmeste offentlige badeværelse her?",
Hey Kelly. I am Peruvian-Spanish and have been travelling and living for short periods of time in Copenhagen during the last 15 years. I've noticed that a lot of people have tattoos (more than the average country I guess). Is it applied to the whole country or maybe only to Copenhagen because it is a harbor? I don't have much knowledge about the rest of the country actually. This could be another stereotype...in any case, your left forearm is a proof :) Ciao
People not crossing the red light when there's no one around (e.g. 4:00 in the morning) is a stereotype of Canada too. Because Canadians are so polite and obedient.
My family is Danish, I was born in New Zealand but it's funny because I have lots of these traits. It's a pity they're not so big on dating I would love a Danish girlfriend
I've only watched one video so far but by god, it's awesome to see a fellow dane here on youtube :D especially one as fun and awesome as you appear to be :) And all hail the Great Jim Carrey!
Okay, so me exgirlfriend lives in denmark, and she tells me about the danes and their culture, i've been there myself, and i haven't been able to understand anything about who and what they are. I gues next time i visit i have to try this RRemulel whatever it is. Maybe that enlightens me of the danish way. Any dane can confirm it?
In Poland people eat potatos almost everyday too. And one of our cities is facetiously called Potatoland. And once we had one girl from Denmark, we thought "hurray, someone with who we can drink!". Aaaand she was drunk after one shot and one glass of champagne xD
About the light-regulations, if you in Denmark are taken by the police crossing the road when the lights are red, you have the possibility to end up with a 1500 - 3000kr ticket.... -.-
I lived in DK, so here it goes my opinion: 1 - no comment, 2 - yes, and they do so, 3 - yes, but I was never was expecting to be killed by a bike, 4 - yes, I got used to do so, there, 5 - that must be a trend there now, when I was there they'd use other kind of clothes... though my favourite dressing in DK is no clothes at all, 5 - I didn't talk to other ppl on buses too, neither do I do it here, 6 - yeah, you're right, 7 - Danes don't drink a lot, Swedes go to DK to drink a lot, 8 - I guess everyone in the world swears a lot, 9 - yes, that one is true, danes eat potatos almost everyday, 10 - maybe, maybe not, 11 - If I knew what lawn-gnomes are... , 12 - well, again, what's licorice?...13 - true, as in other countries, 14 - no, they go straight to sex, 15 - most are, but not all,
I think the coolest thing about Denmark is the general equality mindset. I like to see girls approaching boys on bars when they feel like. This is really cool. Southern countries don't have that. :(
Thumbs up for Denmark.

My husband's grandfather came from Denmark to America in 1903. e was 19 Years old.
Cyklopaths everywhere! That made me laugh!
We visited Copenhagen last month and made many of the same observations! I loved your quiet trains!!
basically, danes are pessimistic whereas americans are overly optimistic to the point of entitlement.
Likely written by a pessimist? :)
Nah, I’ll simply it for you. Denmark gives no shits. we party, we drink, we love, we live.
Obviously, the definition of "live" differs from country to country.
Nope we just dont give a shit
I would rather define them 'realistic'.
Wow. Glad I came across your channel. Such great vids.
Killjoy, you're a fascinating lady
Thumbs up! I just moved to Copenhagen from New York and its amazing how much the cities overlap. And yes... remoulade! Where have you been all my life??
I almost got ran over by a bike..
***** literally tho like i stepped onto the bike path and the biker just like rammed into me lmao
+Jihan Muhith Why are you stepping into the bike path? That's like stepping into the middle of the road or stepping onto railroad tracks.
Thomas Riley IT WAS AN ACCIDENT I THOUGHT THERE WERE NO BIKES AND I STEPPED ONTO IT AND A BIKE CAME
+Jihan Muhith I've done it too, don't worry
Never go on the cycle paths... Seriously they will kill you xD
We have remoulade in the states, though it's not that common. It's superb on fried calamari.
jeg blev cyklet ned en dag.. -.-
Shit
Stereotype confirmed...
Are you from Denmark? What is the cheap alcohol that you drank in shots at the beginning?
Michael Craig They're called små sure(small sour) and come in different variants, but honestly they're horrible ahah
I'm in a relationship with a danish guy and all of your clips are true. haha
I want to move to Denmark. it seem beautiful and happy. I'm sure I could handle the weather. plus I like that whole be realistic about your goals. I wish people here would think things through like that. anyways I'm already learning Danish and I hope to save up enough money to move from the USA to Denmark. any advice?
Sooo if Danish people aren't much into dating, how do relationships look like?
the most common way for danes to get into a relationship is to have sex for some months, and then get together.
Aleksandra Gęsiorska I honestly Dont know............
Even i am Danish............ Oh ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
Uck
We get super drunk, have sex with random strangers and hope that one day you wake up with "the one".
Oddly enough, these replies seem to be fairly accurate.
I Meat my boyfirend from School ☺️
The "tall blonde" is what people think of Sweden.
+Albert Kagan It's in generel what is thought of Scandinavia.
+Kelly Louise Killjoy A lot of Scandinavians look like albino's, I think it's because they actually are.
+Kelly Louise Killjoy true
+Super Wog As someone who's 1/8 Danish, I assure you they're not albino, since being albino is a single trait (trust me - neither my grandpa, who's 1/2 Danish, nor anyone related to him, are albino). Also, albino humans have purple eyes.
Just like hetalia!
great video
Der er så mange ting i denne her video der er sande.
Ikke så tit man finder danske lps fans
Jeg var faktisk en af de første xD
TheDarkLPS same xD
Du kan li' K-Pop og PewDiePie? Vi kunne hurtigt blive venner... :P
TheDarkLPS OMG ka du os lide kpop? :D feeedt...hvor gammel er du? ^^
At 7:15 I heard:
Beer is a common cult beverage.
My reaction:
Oh there must be a lot of cults in Denmark!
Wait, what?!
A tipsy Dane... noting new there :P
Hey Kelly! I'm glad I bumped into your videos. I'm coming to Copenhagen in Denmark to study in a Master's program at UCPH. I'm learning from your expert advice on Danish culture! :D
did she say 'cyclepaths' or 'psykopaths' because no matter what it's true
I just bust out laughing when you said "Remoulade".
You danish was really showing there.
Det er trist når man har glædet sig til at spise fritter med remulade til aftensmad, og ens far så har købt en remulade der ikke smager godt ;-; the regrets of letting my dad buy the remulade ... DAMN YOU
I am watching this from New Zealand. Awesome video, very funny
am im gonna be deported for not enjoying remulade?
+hasikon Yes. The answer is yes.
oh shat
***** i dont think you understand ,im not an outsider ,im a inside sabotauer ,say goodbye to your precius remulade
Just staring to learn more about my Danish Heritage! Thanks for the Video!
1:27 Cyclopaths??? puns???? kill me???? pls?????
Your accent is the best thing to bless this planet
Sup ;D
finder ikke så tit danske youtubere
Sup! ;D
Remulade er vejen frem!
+freja Lenschow jeg kan ikke lide det men vis i kan lide det er Fint med mig
+Eivindur det er da ikke dansk, er det?
Yet another video from a Dane that points toward a lack of aspirations among the people being a main reason for what they consider happiness. So far this is universal in the almost a dozen vids I've seen so far.
I hear your accent
Your videos are making me miss Denmark so much right now!
+Kristian Brandt
(In the U.S.) someone sitting behind me on a bus asked me if I would like to buy some stamps, WTF.
Now that i think about it all my brunette friends are small
Hold Nu kæft jeg er færdig af grin 😂😂 du forstår virkelig at fortælle den nøgne sandhed om Danmark og danskerne, også endda med humor 👌🏻 Well done 💪🏼✌🏻️
Not crossing on red light is a great habit, believe me. It has to be freaking subconscious. I've been to Copenhagen and I loved this feature (among lots of other features that made me fall in love with the city)
Reminds of how my Danish friends can crack me up
Don't worry, you're not alone with the stoplight thing. I lived in Germany for 3 years, and most of the people there would wait for the lights to change too, even if there weren't any cars. They would always give us evil looks when we would cross the street early. lol
you are adorable... and very funny... thanks for the video... good notes for things i have to keep in mind when i visit Denmark next week
That was super fun and very informative, now give me the roulade.
Oh thank you for sharing !
hello kelly, im just curious about something... if you are not that social people... so do you have Facebook or Twitter... I mean is it widely used?
thank you
+Mhammad Darwesh yes it is
+Mhammad Darwesh Denmark is the nation in the world with the most people on social media.
Mhammad Darwesh
I'm sure there are lots of other nice peoples as well out there :)
+Mhammad Darwesh its like that if you walk by someone they wont expect you to say hi but if you do
they will smile and greet you back
we don't crave social behavior from strangers but we do like it
Love your videos! X
Also... What if I want directions on how to get somewhere? Cant I just ask someone cause if am a tourist, I obviously dont know anyone
Well a lot of us Danes can speak English, just say "Hey, sorry for at genere dig, men kan du tale engelsk?" if they say Ja then speak English if they say Ingen ask someone else, but the most important phrase to use for a tourist in Denmark is "Hvor er den nærmeste offentlige badeværelse her?",
+Kross Nexus ok cool thank you so much....magen tak! Lol I think thats how you say many thanks!
If you dont have dating, how do you have sex? How do you get engaged or married and have kids with no dating?
Michael Craig go out on the street and shout "DOES ANYONE WANNA FUCK ME ?"
We are kinda like wolfs we fuck and then we stay with that person as in the dating phase evolves and then we break up
sadly so accurate
Hejsa
We don't think only one of those things when someone are talking to us in the bus.
This video is awsome!
People not crossing the red light when there's no one around (e.g. 4:00 in the morning) is a stereotype of Canada too. Because Canadians are so polite and obedient.
0:03 "Reshoted" .. Danes talking english in a nutshell..
Wargasm I'm so surprised that after all this time, you are the only one who've pointed it out.
Kelly Louise Killjoy Haha, jeg er færing mig selv, og vi udtaler engelske ord sjovt, men danskere :D - ingen topper jer :3
Really enjoyed this video! I am new to Aarhus as an exchange student and am having a fun time observing and better understanding the culture!
My family is Danish, I was born in New Zealand but it's funny because I have lots of these traits. It's a pity they're not so big on dating I would love a Danish girlfriend
Is it bicycle paths or bicyclopaths? :D
What kind of "små sure" is that? Im so curious!
Hi! What is considered a short girl in denmark?
You are amazing! Thank you for sharing your time and culture;) Keep smiling
+Andy H Dont believe what she says
I've only watched one video so far but by god, it's awesome to see a fellow dane here on youtube :D especially one as fun and awesome as you appear to be :)
And all hail the Great Jim Carrey!
You mean remoulade? That shit is just ughhh.. I don't like it. It's a hit or miss for your tastebuds I think
Tror du ikke, at det der med det røde lys kan begrundes med færdselsloven? :D
Your sweater game is strong. Love it!
In Poland people eat potatos almost everyday too. And one of our cities is facetiously called Potatoland.
And once we had one girl from Denmark, we thought "hurray, someone with who we can drink!". Aaaand she was drunk after one shot and one glass of champagne xD
også kelly, hvor bør du i danmark??? (not trying to be a stalker or anything..)
Izabella Neergaard I øjeblikket bor jeg i fredericia (;
Kelly Louise Killjoy aw cool man. just moved here
Jeg bor også i Fredericia!😱😂👌🏼
About the light-regulations, if you in Denmark are taken by the police crossing the road when the lights are red, you have the possibility to end up with a 1500 - 3000kr ticket.... -.-
I lived in DK, so here it goes my opinion: 1 - no comment, 2 - yes, and they do so, 3 - yes, but I was never was expecting to be killed by a bike, 4 - yes, I got used to do so, there, 5 - that must be a trend there now, when I was there they'd use other kind of clothes... though my favourite dressing in DK is no clothes at all, 5 - I didn't talk to other ppl on buses too, neither do I do it here, 6 - yeah, you're right, 7 - Danes don't drink a lot, Swedes go to DK to drink a lot, 8 - I guess everyone in the world swears a lot, 9 - yes, that one is true, danes eat potatos almost everyday, 10 - maybe, maybe not, 11 - If I knew what lawn-gnomes are... , 12 - well, again, what's licorice?...13 - true, as in other countries, 14 - no, they go straight to sex, 15 - most are, but not all,
The fine for crossing the road when there is a red light in denmark is $215...
