As a Finnish person who now lives in FNQ and has studied Thai culinary arts and history for over 12 years (amongst culinary arts from it's neighbouring countries) i can say that a lot of Aussies have no idea how lucky they are being in such proximity to South-East Asia and having people from multiple countries and tribes bringing their vibrant traditions to the country.. Not to mention the beauty of first nation traditions and cuisines. Australia is such a beautiful melting pot of cultures despite it's horrendous past caused by westerners.

I’m Vietnamese-Chinese and from Canada! I thought that you’d find it interesting that “lắc” means shake/to shake. I am by no means fluent like my parents, but the name basically is just referring to the shaken nature of mixing up the fruit. My Dad often shakes up green apple chunks with chilli shrimp salt as a snack! The chè ba màu literally translates to 3 coloured dessert. Chè is a category of deserts, and the 3 colours is traditionally the red crunchy bits/beans, green for the pandan jelly squiggles, and yellow for mung bean.
Anyways, so glad to see you enjoying Vietnamese food, and South East Asian food in general. You should definitely stop by the China towns and whatnot in Canada and the US if you like this!

I visited Cambodia for all of 2 days with my dad once. It's not in this video, but we tried Fish Amok and it was so good. My dad loved it so much he replicated it with as much accuracy as possible when we got back home. I would love to try all of the delicious Cambodian food in this video! And that rice roll restaurant is ingenious. I live near a Vietnamese neighborhood but there isn't anything like that. Which is maybe a good thing because I would eat there every day.

The lac lac reminds me so much of a popular snack here in the Southwestern US (from Texas all the way to California) and all over Mexico. You can go to a frutería or just to the lady with the cart in the park, and get any combo of mango, cucumber, jicama and watermelon with Tajin and/or chamoy, lime, and Valentina hot sauce. Tajin is a chili, lime, salt powder you can sprinkle and chamoy is dark red sauce made of fermented fruit in brine. You pick your fruit and toppings and shake it in a zip top bag. Salty, sour, spicy on fruit is big here, too. So good on a hot summer day.

    • @SydneyFoodBoy

If anybody is in the Tampa Florida area that wants to try the build your own spring roll plate I highly reccomend Pho Quyen off HILLSBOROUGH AVE. The lemongrass beef and the curry chicken ones are both incredible 🤤❤
