      Emma Pickles
      The last month and a few months before were absolutely horrendous for me,it was like going through puberty all over again, and some good things happened to me were
      1) learned to drive ( im 19, so its kinda late, i know)
      2) got a Wacom tab, so i can draw digital arts now
      3) bought a green screen, and Currently figuring out how to use it properly
      4) developed some stories
      5)i got the break i wanted for so long time, to think about all the stuff going around me, which was really important to keep me sane
      6) got back to 8 hour sleep, i used to sleep for like 4-5 hours and it drove me crazy
      So there you go.
      All of these good things happened to me this month.

      Emma Pickles , ... Do you really want to know? Our life started having all these horrific events and to this day they are still happening... My advise is to keep meticulous records and publish your autobiography. I'd be in line for that "book". We take trials and tribulations seriously but not look like we are going through any more than others. It helps to be able to talk to others and offer our aid with a smile. (I UNDERSTAND! ) BLESSINGS, LACONDESALATINA

    Emma! I'm a medical student and we learned all about diabetic ketoacidosis -- it is such a scary thing and I am so glad you were able to pick up on the signs and get help before anything too serious happened. Your explanation of what happens to your red blood cells was perfect! Type 1 is often ignored and just remember that is is NOT your fault (like you already said). Our body loves to do funny things that sometimes leaves us sicker rather than better. I hope you are feeling better and am praying for a healthy recovery! Take all the rest you need -- much love!

    • @sophiehamilton1327
      @sophiehamilton1327 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jasmin Singh I agree! I'm a med student too and I'm definitely going to use that description with patients! You're awesome Em, sorry that you're having to go through so many changes so unexpectedly x

    • @Monica-ie6nn
      @Monica-ie6nn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats is a very scary view to have of the human body as a med student. As a future doctor you should realize and understand the connection between autoimmune problems and diet. It has been widely studied for years all over the world. I would encourage you to check out nutritionfacts.org/ Dr. Gregor consolidates all current medical nutritional research and has many videos on Type 1 diabetes prevention through diet

    • @thephysicianbakes
      @thephysicianbakes 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really a scary view... just stating that sometimes our body does do things that we can't explain and that don't always seem to help us. Yes, there is always going to be a link to our external environment and our health outcomes. Smoking and diet being two huge factors. The point of my comment was to just reassure Emma, and others in the same situation, that this disease is not because they necessarily did something they shouldn't have. My close friend is a health fanatic and actually follows the guidelines that your link provides. And she still developed Type 1 Diabetes. Our body and nature are mind-boggling!

    • @Monica-ie6nn
      @Monica-ie6nn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The research is primarily based on development during pregnancy and early childhood. While it may make your future patient feel better knowing they had no control over these things during their mothers gestation and during their early childhood you would still leave out a huge discussion about the way they should choose to care for their future children to try and prevent type 1 diabetes. Your friend may have had parents that did not follow these guide lines because they were unaware because a doctor never told them about the real connections between animal products and diseases. As a medical student you should be aware that 10 of the 15 leading causes of death in the western world are completely preventable an treatable with plant-based diets. So to hear a future doctor say "our body loves to do funny things" without mention to a vast amount of medical and nutritional research indicating the opposite is in my opinion quite scary.

    As soon as you started listing off your symptoms I knew it was diabetes:( I'm sorry that's really hard to go through but I promise it gets so much better. My little sister has type 1 as well and she is doing fine! It takes some time getting used to but once you get yourself on a schedule and understand whats best for you, it will get a lot easier. My little sister has had it for 11 years now and thankfully she has been doing great, as long as you have it under control you wont have to worry about all those scary things that could happen to you. My sister is currently using a pump to manage her blood sugar and she lovves it! I know you mentioned you were nervous about using one but if you look into it you'll see its not too bad. Of course everyone is different though so if you're uncomfortable just do whatever is best for you just please please please know you can live a LONG HAPPY HEALTHY life with Type 1 Diabeties, you're not alone! Millions of people go through everything you're going through right now and its a tough community of people that just keep fighting to find a cure and live they're life❤️ Sorry for this whole spiel just wanted to let you know everything will be alright. Much love for you Emma!! Keep us updated on how you are💗❤️💞

    I have type 1 diabetes. It's an autoimmune condition, there is nothing you can do to cause or prevent it. I honestly hate that it is lumped in with type 2, because it is nothing like type 2.

      There is quite a bit of research suggesting that cow's milk and animal meat could trigger type 1 diabetes in children and adults
      nutritionfacts.org/video/does-bovine-insulin-in-milk-trigger-type-1-diabetes/
      nutritionfacts.org/video/meat-consumption-and-the-development-of-type-1-diabetes/
      its not surprising as the majority if not all of immune diseases are correlated with animal product consumption
      if you got it as a child then obviously it is not your fault but you can help prevent it in your children by having them adopt a plant based diet

    • @sarahb4401
      @sarahb4401 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Type 2 can be genetic though, it's not just lifestyle. I'm pre-diabetic and I'm a uk size 8, it's because I'm insulin resistant sue to my pcos. Luckily though I can control mine with a low carb diet, which obviously isn't the case for type 1, although low carb can help you reduce the amount of insulin you need to take. Generally there seems to be a huge misunderstanding about both types unfortunately

    and what I've been up to? i just wish i get into my dream uni and that my life will turn out okay. pretty mundane stuff :)

    When you started to list your symptoms, I instantly thought... diabetes type 1, I've had it for 17 years now.. (24 now) And I am not alone my sister (type 1) and father (type 2) also have it. And yeah it sucks, it's a continues struggle.. and most people don't get it (that it's a serious thing) because you look healthy. And I have the same thing with the insulinepump.. just don't like the idea of all the tubes (makes me feel like a sick person all of the time). So I also need to inject myself 4 times a day and do all the other things. I wish you all the luck in the world, know you are not alone! Sometimes it will suck, but you more or less get used to it eventually:) People around you will also learn to help you! So keep being positive and everything will turn out fine:)
    Ps: a few tips from a diabetes veteran:
    - always have something to eat with you! (Liquid works best when you have a low bloodsugar)
    - also always take your insuline with you
    - make sure you have a card that says you're a diabetic, in case of emergency
    - and lastly keep on being positive:)

      I hate pumps too. I'm afraid of catching it on a doorknob accidentally. And it also makes me feel like I'm not a normal person, and it's a constant reminder that I am different.
      I like to think that having diabetes is like having a baby. You constantly have to care for it and be thinking about it. You don't get a break.

    I hope you're feeling better now. My boyfriend suffers from T1 and I can't say much from his perspective but as his girlfriend, it's terrifying to see him having ketoacidosis. I know for sure though that every diabetic are so strong to fight this every day. One piece of advice I have though is try to make peace with the illness. It sucks and is so unfair, but it makes you stronger ❤

  • @hannahp4955
    @hannahp4955 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I can't tell you how strong you're being Emma, it's amazing how you're dealing with it all. I was diagnosed with T1D at 14 and I know exactly what you're going through. It throws your world upside down overnight along with everyone's around you, let alone all the other crap you've had to deal with. I know it seems like a lot right now, how you said you feel like food is all you have time for, but I promise you it gets easier. It's a lifelong condition and at times it feels like what's the point, but as you said the drive to never end up in the worst case scenario is what keeps you going. Over time you'll just end up seeing food as numbers which sounds hilarious, you won't think twice about waking up in cold sweats and immediately grabbing something sugary, the blood sugar tests will seem like second nature. It is a life controlled by machines and needles and you sometimes feel like you're just running along behind trying to catch up. But the NHS nurses are lifesavers and eventually it's just normal. If you ever need just to rant know we're here, there's a lot of people all going through it together and it sucks but we're here for you and we love you. I'm so sorry this happened to you but honestly diabetics are some of the strongest people I know, and all the other shit you're going through makes you even stronger than most. Thanks for sharing Emma x

    I decided to watch this while doing my makeup, but I ended up crying (effectively ruining my makeup). Watching this and hearing you talk about your issues was way too real for me and reminds me of my own medical mumbo-jumbo. Aside from that, you have been my favorite TH-camr for years; I have been following you almost from the beginning and it is so heartbreaking to know what you've survived but it's also totally empowering seeing that you are still SURVIVING it (with such grace and positivity, by the way). Oh Emma, Welcome to the club! As soon as you said you started to drink a lot of water I just cried for you because I knew it was Type 1 Diabetes. I was diagnosed at 10 years old, I'll be 26 this year :) I had almost the exact same symptoms. You are doing so well, it took me 2 years to do my own injections. I had to rely on my mum a few times every day! I found joining an online Facebook group or support group for T1's really helped me to feel less insane. I'm looking forward to my Diabetes clinic appointment this Wednesday :) I hope things settle down soon for you and Brad. Much love from Perth, Australia :) xx

I wish I could give you more support than just a comment on the internet, but it will have to do. I'm sending you so much love, and virtual grapes for your recovery. I think you're a wonderful, powerful, inspirational person and I know that despite the changes happening in your life right now, you'll continue to handle them like a pro. When you were describing your problems, I immediately thought of type 1 diabetes. My brother is a type 1 and had a lot of the same symptoms. He didnt believe my mom or me when we told him he was, but ended up going to the hospital after our diabetic cousin checked his sugar level and it had an error. When he went to the hospital, his blood sugar level was 800. The fact that he wasn't in a coma was amazing. I'm so glad that you're starting to feel better! I had exactly the same symptoms and was then taken to hospital. I cried each night in the hospital. They think mine developed from a flu virus as it affected my autoimmune system. It's not fun, but it's does get better. I'm part of a group on facebook at they are really supportive. It's for people with T1 and carers/parents etc and people can post for help or just show how they are getting on etc. I'm glad you're letting people know about this because I agree, there are so many people who are clueless! Your attitude towards this situation and everything else going on in your life is astounding.
    2 years ago I was diagnosed with inappropriate sinus tachycardia and hypotension and it just completely changed the way I live my life and what I can eat and do, but it put me in such a horrible depressed state. I felt so helpless. Hearing your story and all you've been through, it's amazing to see you smiling while talking about it all. Your positivity towards this is inspiring, and I hope to one day be able to accept my situation the way you did yours, as just "it's my life now" and deal with it.
    Love you Emma! You've always been a favorite youtuber of mine, and now being able to relate to you even more with your illness makes me feel a bit even closer to you? if that's not weird to say. I am so so glad you caught it in time and you're still here smiling. Hope it gets easier for you

    I'm so sorry you've been going through this, Emma. You're the first TH-camr I subscribed to, and you inspired my deeper love for makeup beyond this stuff I wore everyday. I hope everything goes well from here on out. My step dad has had type 1 diabetes for the past 11 years, and he's doing great now. Oh Emma! I'm sorry for everything you're going through! Chronic illness is so completely life changing. You can find support online and reach out to the Spoonie community. Sounds like you have the right attitude about keeping on top of your self care. Don't forget that this situation is really tough and it's nromal to cycle through all the emotions that come with this several times (maybe even all in the same day). Talking to people who understand living with a chronic illness saved my mental health! ♡♡♡

    I am sure that they have already bought it up with you and I'm not sure if it would be something you would be comfortable with but my little sister recently got her CGM. She was diagnosed at 4 years old and since getting the CGM put in it has given her so much more freedom. She also gets a lot more sleep as there is no more waking up to check at night. Its something that you can think about anyway.
    Good luck with everything, you've got this!

    Oh bless you! My heart goes out to you. Im a type 1 diabetic also and was diagnosed when i was 11, im 30 now. It does get easier and watching you really did bring me back to when i first became diagnosed. It sounds like you're doing a fantastic job monitoring your sugars and taking care of yourself. I really hope things become easier for you soon. P.s just a bit of advice ive learnt along my diabetic journey, when pricking your finger do it on the side of your finger rather than the tip because as time goes by you do get a bit of hard skin there and a little loss of feeling, so doing it on the side just minimises these. All the best and keep us updated on how your getting on :)

    From one type 1 to another- you will get through this. 💙 I remember when I was 17, in the hospital getting 30 tubes of blood taken, trying to comprehend carb counting and understanding my new life being absolutely terrified and here I am 3 years on with my pump and am A1c of 6.5. It absolutely is a serious full time lifelong commitment but it is something that will eventually become your new normal and a part of who you are. You have the vital beginnings of willingness to learn and a positive attitude that will carry you through your diabetic journey and make life so much easier. I completely understand what you meant when you said it a strange way it will make you healthier because it totally does. It makes you live how you should live anyway- understanding and thinking about what we put in our bodies to fuel them, regular exercise and regular hospital visits. It is 100 percent possible to live a normal healthy life with Type 1...but it does require time and effort. Believe me when I say I've been there and done that and I promise you it does get better. You have all of my support and well wishes throughout your journey 💙 Keep your head up and your positivity strong, surround yourself with people who understand and care and take good care of yourself.

    Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, I was diagnosed 7 years ago now and have now become a dietician stemming from that! The most important thing is to not let it control you or you may run into issues, During my first few years in my teens I was so cautious with what I was eating and sticking to a regime etc that I let it run my life and caused serious anxiety and depression that I still deal with. My advice to any patients I see is to try and integrate it the best they can, and remember no one is perfect one day of high BM'S or a big spoke after a miscalculated meal in the long term is ok as long as it's occasional, cut yourself some slack!

    I've been in out of hospitals for 9 years and I go to a doctor nearly every week day. I used to go up to 3 appointments 5 days a week. I can't even pee on my own. I've had hundreds of IVs and 4 surgeries, and so much more. Health issues when you're young are realllllly hard, especially if you have to do a bunch of the treatment at home. I I hope you have good days when you can. I have to take one day at a time. If you're not doing that already, I recommend it. Thanks for making this video. Made me feel less alone. ♥️
