3:45 for these fencing instructors who apparently have no idea why you would put a medieval arming sword behind you, here is some information from a 2 year experience HEMA practitioner. From that stance you can do multiple attacks witch the opponent can't really read to where they will come because they don't see your weapon. Yes you are a bit slower, but not by much since you can rely on more rotation momentum from your body. with the same speed you swing your sword forwart with your arm you can also rotate your wrist. This momentum results in a more powerful strike than just a standard oberhau, witch in turn is harder to parry. So yes you lose some time, although little and that is almost won back again because your opponent has an harder time reading it because he/she didn't see the weapon beforehand, only knew it was there, and the faster speed. And in return you get a more powerful strike.
‘Sword experts’ think having a blade rest on the shoulder is a bad idea, I’m no ‘expert’ but that definitely was a way of fighting, and still practiced today...
They are fencer, which to only qualify them to talk about rapier fighting and fencing since those are the more relatable style of combat. After all, you don't do power strikes and slashing in fencing.
"why do they have the sword over the shoulder?" it's a guard from the Joachim Meyer and or Fiore De Liberi manuals (these manuals are more for duels with an audience so were less about the most efficient techniques when compared to other sword masters like Johannes Liechtenauer) which makes sense for the setting considering this is a tournament. "why are all their faces open" Armour in the late 14th and early 15th century was expensive so people used whatever they could afford, this wasn't always the case as face armour at the time was pretty restrictive of vision and breathing (see this video th-cam.com/video/JYXu8LGddWU/w-d-xo.html by Knyght Errant on bascients, some of the most common helmets of the time) so some people preferred an open faced helmet though I would imagine if someone could afford a face covering they would take it as they were usually in the form of visors that could be raised. the people in this clip were using kettle hats which were generally used by poorer men at arms meaning they probably couldn't afford a visored bascinet. Also the maille coifs/aventails are being worn very low on the face in this clip, as seen on effigies and drawings from the period maille was usually worn so that it covered the chin or often sat above the top lip and below the nose.

Holding the weapon on your shoulder is a viable and often used battle stance used in medieval Europe, although these fencers wouldn't understand it, since their "Handle-Cup-And-Metal-Wire" is pretty light.
3:44 Historical martial arts practitioner here. I can explain the guards where whe sword is kept on the soulder. Those are generally used with cutting-oriented swords that don't have a lot of hand protection. When you have a sword with little hand protection, it's not a good idea to rely on guards in which the sword is extended forward and pointing at the opponent, because they leave your hand pretty exposed to an attack. And even though that kind of guard creates a lot of openings, it puts you in a good position to throw a really powerful cut, which can discourage the opponent from trying to rush in and hit you without a care in the world. Also, believe it or not, throwing a cut from this position is faster than from a guard with the blade pointing forward. With the blade on the shoulder, you can start the cut immediately, whereas if the blade is pointing at the opponent, you first have to raise the sword to wind up, and then you throw the cut.
i see you guys saying they should have brought historical european martial artists but imo this is probably the most detailed reaction of these series so far, they managed to explain it so well that i could understand, even though im not familiar with sports in general
While rarely employed in historical fencing (as far as we know), striking from behind one's back has two distinct advantages. For one, such a strike starts obscured and it's near impossible to tell where you are aiming to land it before it's already out front and in full swing. For two, you can put a lot of bodyweight and force into such a strike, in fact more so than any other kind of strike from an anatomic perspective. And yes, please get HEMA experts.
In actual swordfight with shield 3:55 is actually the real way to go since you want to have enough striking power at all time. This is especially the case for blunt weapon, and when you have shields since shields are your main form of defence. Even in some forms of 2 handed sword combat, you'll find the same use of this stance. Of course there are hundreds of different combat style but it's actually a fairly common one for shielded combat (not fencing tho.) Also, faceplates are not that common in this era simply because they are expensive.
The sword over the shoulder is used a lot in historical fencing, especially German, you can power good cuts from that position, they are more telegraphed but that can be the intention It's also a good stance to rest your arm, a sword like the one in the clip isn't heavy per se(usually around 900g, still way more that any fencing instrument) but keeping it in front of oneself can definitely get tiring, add the fact that you've got a shield in front of you for defence and there's no real reason to keep the sword there too* *This is a simplification, I know at least one example of keeping both the shield and the point forward, but it still makes sense not to do that
The fighting style in this Game is based on HEMA, which is based on the old sword fighting techniques from Master Lichtenauer, Talhofer etc. So it's Real sword fighting style. You can not let a modern olympic fencer react to this, because He has no clue about it! Please get yourself a Real HEMA guy!!!
One thing i really liked about this game was it didn't go easy on you for being new to the game, it wanted you to feel weak and helpless in the beginning, so the endgame would feel that much more well deserved
yeah...30 secs in i feel i can write these 2 off plenty of forms using the hand at the chest as a check similar to having it at your hip it keeps it out of the way but still up and present if you need to use it
Well, I don't know what's the point of this video. All of the attacks in KC: D were consulted with people who are proffesionals in European martial arts, so it's very realistic
I wish the gameplay showed the master strokes more (after training with Bernard and getting a few skills in combat he can teach you a counter attack called master stroke that is almost avaible with every weapon) but other than that ... a god vid
it definitely feels more natural and secure having your off arm open and infront of you when wanting to fight with something 1 handed you have to admit. If you didn't know dick about real fighting and you had an axe youd swing it just like that regardless of training.
But in fact other than a natural reaction it is also a real tecnique, so yeah... calling olympic fencers to review medieval fighting wasn't the best idea
Are these Olympic fencers? There are historic systems that have the offhand covering the heart and neck and since its not behind your back or on your hip is can more easily be used for grappling.
Dudes literally just showed they don’t know what they’re talking about in their first comment. “Why would you have your arm in front of you”, in plenty of fencing the off-hand that isn’t being used should be put either behind, at the hip, or tucked up to the chest (like the character in-game does) in order to get it out the way and means you don’t have to worry about it. This is literally in ever fencing, including HEMA which this games fighting is heavily influenced by. These people aren’t sword experts.
Lil Block Olympic fencers don’t equal sword experts, there are dozens of different types of fencing out there. This game just so happens to be HEMA, which means Olympic fencers wouldn’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to it, as a HEMA practitioner wouldn’t know the first thing about Olympic fencing.
lil block lol then they don’t know how to fight with swords opupic fencing is not fencing. Fencing is the art of fighting with a sword and any true historical fencer would know you have your off hand in front of your body to protect against thrusts because a wound to the hand is much better then a wound to the body
I still want to see Martial Artists react to the Yakuza Games, the DOA Games, and Sleeping Dogs, legal experts react to the Ace Attorney Games, and Weapon-Experts react to Soul Calibur 6.
0:30 probably because getting cut on the arm would be better than being cut in the torso, neck, or abdomen. Best case he could use his hand to deflect a stab which might save his life. There's a chance he might take an injury he otherwise wouldn't have, but thats a very risky bet to make.
There are actually many stances that involve holding your weapon over your shoulder or above your head. Maybe two fencers aren't the best experts for things that aren't fencing
The game's damage can work to your advantage with the lack of face masks, but it's mostly a feature of the game on easier modes, as more people have full face masks on higher difficulties. I've won so many battles in this game by picking a sharp pointy sword and going for mostly face stabs because of that, but it loses effectiveness with armored enemies and most in the later game.

In all respect towards sport fencing but KCD is all about historical accuracy which is not their area of expertise
Hey, I'm a sport fencer!
...
Who also knows how to end them rightly.
"you just take the role of a swordfighter in medieval time" Actually starts off as an amateur smith like a boss
I really wanna see you guys cover absolvers for hand to hand combat.
The sword over the shoulder is used a lot in historical fencing, especially German, you can power good cuts from that position, they are more telegraphed but that can be the intention
It's also a good stance to rest your arm, a sword like the one in the clip isn't heavy per se(usually around 900g, still way more that any fencing instrument) but keeping it in front of oneself can definitely get tiring, add the fact that you've got a shield in front of you for defence and there's no real reason to keep the sword there too*
*This is a simplification, I know at least one example of keeping both the shield and the point forward, but it still makes sense not to do that
The fighting style in this Game is based on HEMA, which is based on the old sword fighting techniques from Master Lichtenauer, Talhofer etc. So it's Real sword fighting style. You can not let a modern olympic fencer react to this, because He has no clue about it! Please get yourself a Real HEMA guy!!!
Hell they could have called the people who you know helped make the game
One thing i really liked about this game was it didn't go easy on you for being new to the game, it wanted you to feel weak and helpless in the beginning, so the endgame would feel that much more well deserved
Never been so early to a video good job guys
I know we're all saying it but this game needs HEMA experts and instructors, not Olympic Fencers
I'd rather more ppl than needed say it. Maybe they'll actually take notice this time.
Am i the only one who lives for these videos?
I see one of my sabre students in the background at 0:11!
Please make another video from kingdomcome with historic experte
yeah...30 secs in i feel i can write these 2 off plenty of forms using the hand at the chest as a check similar to having it at your hip it keeps it out of the way but still up and present if you need to use it
im loving this experts react episode pls make more
Best game ever can't wait for the sequel! God be praised, Henry is here!!!
I dislike the format in which this video is done (a square basically) but I love that you give smaller games the exposure they need
i'm selling meme 0:44
Yall should do mourdhau
“I’m feeling quite hungry”
You guys should make them Play Blades and Sorcery
Well, I don't know what's the point of this video. All of the attacks in KC: D were consulted with people who are proffesionals in European martial arts, so it's very realistic
Loving this series!! 🔥🔥
There are litteral olympic fencers. Sit down
Lil Block Olympic fencers don’t equal sword experts, there are dozens of different types of fencing out there.
Cullen Diethron 100%
@@lilblock3564 and that's the problem. I don't know if you noticed, but olympic fencing is quite different from medieval full-armor fighting.
Faceplates are not allowed on the Rattay Tourney but there are many in the game
I still want to see Martial Artists react to the Yakuza Games, the DOA Games, and Sleeping Dogs, legal experts react to the Ace Attorney Games, and Weapon-Experts react to Soul Calibur 6.
0:30 probably because getting cut on the arm would be better than being cut in the torso, neck, or abdomen.
Best case he could use his hand to deflect a stab which might save his life.
There's a chance he might take an injury he otherwise wouldn't have, but thats a very risky bet to make.
From a sport fencing perspective it makes a lot less sense, which I guess is their area of expertise.
KCD is my favorite RPG game ever.
Next video medieval knight reacts to kingdom come deliverance
There are actually many stances that involve holding your weapon over your shoulder or above your head. Maybe two fencers aren't the best experts for things that aren't fencing
Martial Art react to Mad Max videogame. The combat is really good.
@Yo Momma So, your average Australian?
Love KCD. This reaction was great too!
The graphics is so good that enough to make me think that was those kind of fake mobile games ads
You guys need to get them to react to some crazy mordhau gameplay
Fav medieval game
this channel slaps 😳
I’ve been waiting for this I thought about it yesterday and here it is 😂
Sword experts react to For Honor. Please!
The dude on the left looks like he's from the Spanish Caballero or the French musketeer.
>historical material arts
>Fencing
Pick one
Show these guys for honor
Just finished this on expert with all negative perks
Lmao bullshit. If you really did, then you would at least know that there is no "expert" mode. It's called "hardcore".
Can someone explain to me why they don’t get rid of the black boarders 😂
“If you said one wrong thing back then you would get killed”
What the hell are you thinking
For Honor?
The game's damage can work to your advantage with the lack of face masks, but it's mostly a feature of the game on easier modes, as more people have full face masks on higher difficulties. I've won so many battles in this game by picking a sharp pointy sword and going for mostly face stabs because of that, but it loses effectiveness with armored enemies and most in the later game.
It would've been great if this wasn't uploaded in display mode
Those are some boxing dodges
Hey Henry's come to see us!
“It’s but a scratch”
They should do a reaction for Dishonored 1&2, because I feel like Dishonored 1&2 has more fencing elements than other games.
