Some have a metal jacket, others don't. If you rum fiber underground without the metal jacket, then you need to put it in some sort of protective PVC pipe. Then you do not have to ground it. But you end up grounding the non metal jacket ones anyways, because when you lay the trace wire so that you can locate the trench at a later date. The trace wire needs to be grounded to find it.
Some cables have steel strength members that are grounded to the case and used to locate cable path. The type of cable used, it's physical makeup, is up to the company having the fiber placed.
I'm really not sure.. we install many sizes.. this particular one is a random ped.. hopefully I can answer this question for u in the future.. but I believe it was roughly 32 in. Tall around 28 inches wide and about 1 foot deep
Not a very quality installation. Ground rod is installed poorly, you will have issues later on. Ground rods need to be driven in and kept in constant contact with the soil. You made the hole too large. I'm guessing you are contractors and not in house. You also left the conduit uncapped allowing for intrusion. When they come back to blow the fiber they could have issues. While nothing you did is terrible, the quality of your work is pretty poor.
U don't think the gravel filled the crevus were the rod was impelled? We blew the fiber right after this installation as well.. I'm sure u notice the guy go to put on a coupler and I tell him not now!! But that's neither here nor there.. I must thank you for your critique.. but I also disagree..
@@fiberopticmissouri164 I don't believe there was anything wrong here the 5ft ground rod is 100% allowed in communication non voltage systems according to the NEC. @Mike L let us know when your internet doesn't work so we know who to not come to first.
Installation parameters are at the discretion of the company having the fiber placed. They may want that ground rod as it was placed so the connection can be inspected to insure a tight connection. The only way to get an even better connection is to cad-weld the #6 ground wire to the ground rod. That company may also require a certain amount of gravel and to have the inner ducts plugged after the cables are pulled into that location.
Why is the ground rod required? Is there any metal in the fiber jackets that would need grounding?
Yes there is a metal sheet between the fiber and the outside coating..

@@qwerty2269nd All of our fiber is grounded because ours has a copper wire to power equipment.

Is there suppose to be rebard sticking out of the ground with in a foot of this box for grounding purposes?
Not rebard but a ground rod possibly.. but the rod shouldent be visible from surface..
What is the pedestal size..? Hight, Width and Depth
