My dad bought a 1974 JPS Lotus Europa in the EXACT SAME COLOR AS YOURS! He didn't like the way it sounded stock, so he put in a big block V8 with Dual Holley Webber Carburetors, and that's all my mom can remember. Tan interior, and it was THE LOUDEST V8 I HAVE EVER HEARD! I've been to the Grand Prix in Long Beach CA, many times and NOT EVEN THE CARS THERE can match the sound that my dads 1974 JPS Lotus Europa had. Unfortunately my dad died back in 2005 and he sold his Europa to get a Caterham R500 Light, AKA Lotus Super 7. But my mom and I STILL loved the Europa MORE than the Super 7. We've been trying to find the Europa for years but we don't even have pictures of the plates. He lived in Lyndell PA, and heres an amazing story for you. My mom and my aunt were driving back from a wedding years and years ago in the Europa in LA California. A guy in a Porsche pulled up next to them and started revving his engine. My mom thinks it was a 944 or something like that. But she looked at him. Looked at my aunt and said "Hold on." And both of them took off. Flew passed my grandparents on the freeway and raced for about 2 miles. The guy in the Porsche backed down and my mom won the race. They came back to my Grandparents house and my grandpa said "So... How was the race." My mom said "We won." but she started crying because she knew she was busted. My grandpa told my dad and my dad rushed back to check on my mom and the Europa and made sure they were ok. My sister even got to drive the Europa while we were visiting my dad in PA. I still hate her and envy her for that. But I still love my sister anyways. But still, I miss that car so much! You can literally hear my dads Europa coming from a mile away and when he pulled up the house, the house started rumbling with the engine of his Europa. I'm telling you, this Europa was a BEAST of a Lotus. My mom's a court reporter and she got out of MANY speeding tickets because she was late for work. I'm not saying to do that if your not a court reporter. But it pays to do that when you are. Like I said, there will never be a Europa like my dads. Since my dads Europa, I've only seen 1 other in California. Just. 1. The interior of yours isn't like my dads, but the color is the EXACT SAME. If anyone sees a 1974 JPS Lotus Europa with an INSANE V8 that can be heard for a mile, PLEASE STOP HIM AND ASK ABOUT THE CAR! It may be my dads. Also, LET ME KNOW ASAP! That car should've gone to me in his will. I still have pictures of the Europa, but like I said, we don't have pictures of the plates at all unfortunately. I remember taking a picture of the back of the Europa but we can't find it. Love your Car and will ALWAYS LOVE THE 1974 JPS Lotus Europa. Always.
@@mreuropa88 My dad bought it BRAND NEW back in late 1973 in British Racing Green. My mom was there with him. The John Player Special "World Champion" Badge with the years already on the car, behind the driver side window. Even as a kid looking at that, I remember. Still have pictures of it too. Paint scheme was British Racing Green with the gold pinstripes. You don't believe me? It's on my Instagram lol. It's only 1 picture because the rest are lost and I wish I had them especially with the License plate so I can find that car. But yeah, it is actually possible that they didn't just make them in black. Even more of a special edition type of thing. Damn I wish I had that car and the documentation for her. Even if you look up 1974 JPS Lotus Europa British Racing Green, some BRG JPS Lotus Europa's come up in the images. Possible paint respray? Maybe. I don't know because I wasn't born when my parents bought it.
@@andrewvanornum7261 Well i dont want to burst your bubble, but the fact remains the JPS name is in recognition of the black and gold Formula 1 race cars. Some peeople do get confused because the later Europa Special was available in different colors with the gold pinstriping and even more confusing in Black and Gold too. These cars are JPS coloured cars, not numbered JPS cars. What is the number on the badge? Could the dealer have decided to put one on there? Anyways a great car and BRG is a great color too But I suspect its a Europa Special in BRG Not a JPS car. Just seen it was a 1974 car so It couldnt be A numbered JPS car.
Thanks for the ride. I bought a new one in '72' and had a love/hate relationship with it. What I needed was a live-in mechanic. Loved to drive it over anything else I've ever driven, the cornering was incredible with that mid-engine. Interesting horn you've got there. Enjoy, I know I would at this age.
I had a 1974 Spitfire 1500 (Carmine (or deep maroon) with tan interior). I bought it in Montrose, Scotland when I was in the US Navy stationed at RAF Edzell. I paid $2,800. Drove it all over Scotland and down to London a few times. Wonderful! Wish I still had it. Next duty station was Skaggs Island, Calif. (north of San Francisco). Traded it in for a 1976 Ford Capri II S. They gave me $3,500! Only car I ever made money on. My wife married me because I had such a cool car! HAHA. Always wanted an Europa! They say they corner like no one's business!
My 115hp Twincam could only be heard around a block away. My early Twincam still used the S-2 interior but that changed in 1973 when they became the Special and would be the interior you remember
My Dad had 3 of these in the 70’s. I’m lucky I had any kids would always have to ride the console and he would scare the crap out of me in those. When he got old it’s like slow down! Dad we are doing 55 hush. :)
This is my car! I bought it in September on bring a trailer. I believe you are the one who actually restored it? I did not get a chance to drive it much before winter, but now that the weather has warmed I've enjoyed the heck out of driving it on the back roads of southeast Ohio.
Did you modify your original doors to accept S1 style windows? I am thinking about doing full a full S1 door swap to my TC. Got any pics of the car? I would love to see it from the outside!
I purchased a spare drivers door that I made into the S1 type so I could pop out the window, store it in the bonnet and have a nice open window to get some fresh air. The window was from Europa Engineering in UK and hardware was cobbled together from McMaster-Carr and a popout mechanism from old VW bus
That's great! I am currently restoring a TCS and an S1A right now. I modified the S1A doors to S1 window spec. Could you send me a picture of the car? I am thinking about taking a mold of the S1 door and reproducing them in CF for the TCS. I prefer the clean look of the S1 to that of the TC window frame.
Why do people hold on to the gear lever when they drive, are they frustrated helicopter pilots ? Don't you know you can wear out the synchromesh rings by doing that !

Bravo to you. You drive that car like it was meant to be driven. Speeding down a winding road.

Late '72 became the Special
It looks smooth like butter, what a dream it must be to own one!
This is amazing

Love that oversteer and recovery at 0:25!
The gauge where ashtray should have been is a Smiths Vintage clock I bought at a CarSwap market
Beautiful car man.
Best looking car ever made imo.
Fantastic car! But the roads also look great...no pot-holes like in the UK.
Beautyful Car that sound is music

CK- I owned for 17 years and sold when we moved. Would like to communicate with you as I might know all her dirty secrets
Carro lindo, anda muito!
Centre console with gauge looks much better than original with ashtray. What does that gauge tell you? Ah, I zoomed in - it's a clock. Nice.
I added real horns to my Type 54: highly recommended
Lotus and alfa romeo very much on same page not mega fast or that reliable but super fun well handerling cars
Damn that's awesome
Nice camera angle

jezus christ! sure seems fast for that road. Maybe it's the GoPro wide angle lens. Good on ya.
The way only lotus should be driven
Lovely. Always ogled them as a kid. One day maybe I should...
Off the Hemmings.
Luv her

The gear linkage is fairly vaugue in some europas...It probably helps!
@@mreuropa88 Still bad driving, hands on the wheel.....you never know when you might need them.
Macho car!
