    So why do you not have any fuel continuing to flow out? I have the older Air Dog 2 on a LMM and the fuel continues to poor out during filter change? Did you clamp the line before the video started or is the new 4g system different?

      You are going to have some fuel spillage, I did not clamp the line on this particular truck but it is a good idea to just cut down on the mess.

      I think its because your pump is mounted lower than the fuel tank so if you don't clamp the fuel lines it will continue to spill out.

    Bought an AirDog 1 (A4SPBD001) from you in Jan 2013.... 8 years later - it continues to do what it is supposed to do - provide an adequate supply or clean diesel fuel to the injection pump. Your excellent service led me to purchase my South Bend Clutch from you guys too. Great video - I usually watch it to refresh my memory before changing the filters on my fuel pump. Thanks!

    I’m glad it didn’t prime for you right away, because after about 15 seconds I would’ve probably shut it off and thought I did something wrong. Great simple video!!

      Best we can tell, trucks are camera shy and have performance anxiety. We try to coax them through it.

    How often or when would you know when to drain the water filter separator if necessary?

  • @TonyDoddato
    @TonyDoddato 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The air dog manual states you should fill the water separator with fuel before priming to prevent damage to the pump

    Hello , mine does not give me it's zing whn I turn key on & it has a loud hum to it that does not stop ??

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some AD’s will run all the time when the key is on, this is normal. Depends on the truck application on that. But if the noise of the pump as changed, the pump blows fuses, or you are down on fuel pressure, you will need to diagnose the cause of this.

    does the water separator need diesel in it before putting it on? or is just the fuel filter that needs diesel ?

      That can happen doing it this way, also he forgot to mention about clamps on the fuel line so you don't have it constantly draining as your changing the filters.

    Hoping for a quick response. Just did this and we may not have got the process right getting fuel in the lift pump filter well we fired it up and it ran for a few seconds and died. Now we can’t get fuel anywhere. We have air somewhere but we aren’t sure how to go about bleeding it

    I thought that the Airdog had a line that returned excess fuel, and air, to the tank through the filler neck. Should that not prime the system all on its own even with the filters on tight?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It does, but the air separation system isn't designed for a initial prime. That’s a good question though. Once the system is primed, the Airdog will then polish the fuel.

      @@thoroughbreddiesel worked like a charm after I figured out the line to the solenoid after the fuse in the wiring harness wasn't properly put together and not sending any power after the fuse when plugged in (that was cute)
      It's raining here today so I'm not going to be able to finish bleeding up to the engine.
      I installed the Driven Diesel fuel bowl delete kit and new banjo bolts and now I have to bleed out up to the pressure regulator for the return to complete the bleed of the system.. all I can say for me doing this again in the future (hahaha not) do NOT do all systems at once ( adrenaline HPOP and HPOP crossover lines, IPR and ICP sensors, turbo pedestal delete, turbo rebuild, driven diesel fuel bowl delete kit, and AirDog II 4G 165 install with new fuel tank pick up tube.) And MAKE damn sure you have Loctite Prime and Clean and Loctite 545 and for every connection You have to (MUST WAIT!! to) dry TWENTY FOUR HOURS!!
      Or, you'll be doing it..one..two..or three times because you cannot get the leaks stopped on the Ford 7.3 diesel engine (year 1999) It's been a very long and taxing process but luckily I have a beater Jeep Wrangler YJ and other vehicles to get me around while I "Take my TIME" to do it wrong..I mean right..no wrong..I mean in the end, right... I hope 🤕😎🐼🤕🙏🙏😇😭👏

    I had an Airdog on my 2001 Cummins and I hated it. Fuel filters after a change would only prime if I filled them with diesel first. The seal in the pump failed and took out the motor. Lines rubbed through and leaked twice. Wiring ratsnest with the universal connection system. Didn't have the warranty card turned in. Airdog DID send me a new motor at no cost though.

    Question is it ok to fill the fuel filter with fuel before you install it back on the pump? To lessen the priming wait time.

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, on these systems it actually is a little better to fill the water separator to help it pickup its prime and it gets filtered before it hits the engine (passes through fuel filter after coming out of water separator.)

    I just thought to ask my fuel pressure regulator broke and airdog sent me a new one with a spring and both end pieces. I’ve realized my pump sounds way different on prime and start up while it’s running. I have an airdog 2 df-165, and on the paper they sent me it says spring psi 18 which makes me think that’s the max psi it’ll go to. I was just wondering why my pump sounds different after switch and if it’s really maxed out at 18?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing you can do is to turn the regulator in and out a couple of times to help seat the regulator and that may quieten the pump down. AD suggest you do this on a regulator installation to seat everything in.
