    Having watched Andy "tune up" a number of suspects in these clips, I am struck by the rage Dennis Franz projects. Convincing and never gets old. Great acting and writing.

      @@nightowl5475 So, you think it is "difficult" to know if a guy who MURDERED his wife is the bad guy or the good guy? Or that the detective who slapped him around is the bad guy or the good guy? I guess you think slapping someone is no different than murder. Maybe when you grow up you will know the difference. Not knocking on “The Wire”, but I suspect that if they did a scene like this, they would’ve played it off as trying to closes cases because of “the stats”; the numbers game. But here, it’s more of, a person was killed, we need to do this to close the case so the person responsible answers for it.

    • @wasserperson
      @wasserperson ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ... The Wire had several scenes like this!
      But remember,
      1) The Wire covered way more continuing characters & plot in each episode
      2) They did very very few "crime of the week" episodes
      3) Compstat got its start with NYPD in the 90s, at the same time NYPD Blue was starting up; if NYPD Blue was made ten years later it would've featured the struggles with Compstat just as often as they brought up IAB.
      ( For the record I'm a fan of both series, & refuse to rank one over the other )

      Sadly, in the old days but up until fairly recently i.e. when NYPD Blue was on the air...this was very common and is featured in shows for a reason. Courts for most part ignored it, as did internal affairs etc. A lot of innocent people ended up in jail, because of false confessions obtained by beatings, what essentially was torture, people just in the moment, wanted the pain to stop.

    The problem with this is that everyone watching, of course, has sympathy for the police, especially since the detectives are never wrong about the guilty. But that's problematic in my view. It's a great show, but its willingness to make violence against defendants look legitimate ignores the very real constitutional issues involved here. Of course, no one has sympathy for killers, but what if they showed the detectives, including Andy, being wrong occasionally. As great as the show was, it does glamorize violence against defendants, just as The Godfather to some extent glamorized the Mafia. I mean, the cops pretty much throw the Constitution out the window and are expected to do so other than the bare minimum that they have to adhere to. Of course, everyone is glad when Andy tunes up someone and gets a confession because it seems like justice. But that's not the rule of law.

You’re right, Andy, we sure do have ourselves another cop, just like us, who will just as easy, beat a confession out of a guy if he doesn’t admit to the crime. I’m sure glad we got ourselves another cop who is willing to assault citizens, make out a phony report and perjure himself in court. Yup, we sure got ourselves another cop. I wonder why the public fears us so much?

    • @nightowl5475
      @nightowl5475 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kendallrivers1119 I love the show and I'm a big fan of it. I'm not a troll or like it when scumbags get off. My only point is with comedy. Usually using comedy is a way to make people think about important issues without being insulting to them. I was merely using comedic license to make my point. Here's my point, the show was very popular and people really connected with the characters on the show. However, everyone wants Andy and Simone to get the bad guys but, what if you were in that situation or a family member or a friend of yours, I don't think you'd be cheering on Andy to beat a confession out of your friend or your father, right? We must not loose sight of using those tactics all the time. Many cops that come onto the force and see veteran cops using tactics like that, want to fit in and mimic their supervisors. Another example on that show, gives the impression that Internal Affairs is, and I quote, "the rat squad." So, does that imply cops should be able to do whatever they want and not be able to follow the same rules they inforce onto society? I would hate to see a society of cops that were able to do whatever they want and not have any superiors checking over their behavior. Let's enjoy thr show but not loose touch with reality. Cops need to have checks and balances placed on them because they hold a tremendous amount of power and its very easy to abuse that power without being supervised. Remember, even Andy Sibowitz can abuse his position without being put check. Those checks protect us as a society. I'm all for getting the bad guy as long as I'm not the one sitting in that interrogation room with a cop telling another cop, I can hurt this guy and make it look like no bruises are going to be placed on him. Then later, we can doctor-up the report. No way do I want cops doing that to people like us. I'm not the bad guy and neither are you. Let's not give the Andy Sibowitz's a pass.
