The part where Standish falls out of the window while he was on fire made me think of the part in The Lord of the Rings when Denethor is on fire and runs off the edge of the castle to his demise.
The entire plot would have been foiled had he used an umbrella, loaded another round in his pistol, had it rained sufficiently to wash away the flammable liquid or simply left his soaked raincoat at the hanger before joining his fellow order members...

3:13 _They didn't know you'd given them the antidote._ Blackwood does realize that antidotes tend to work best _after_ the victim's been poisoned, not a day before, right?
Depends. The imporant part is that you have a compound in your body that, while not damiging to the organism, are more eager to react with the poison than the poison is with your body whithout creating another poisonous substance. So if the antitude was a chemical compound that remeained in the body for a longer time it would still be effective as the airboumd cyanide derevation was entering thr bloodstream through the lungs.
Later on, Lord Black Wood used the same compound to blow up the wharf! An odorless, tasteless flammable liquid, yet it burned like lamp oil! It was sprayed on Standish from above, and he mistook it for the rain around it as he entered the temple!
Most likely one of Blackwood's compatriots had control over the sprayer with the order to only spray Standish. The excess would have been washed out by the rain.
There is a flaw here (unless they do a flashback). Blackwood says “tomorrow at noon”. But after this scene, Sherlock looks at the dead body (and its clearly daytime) and it leads to the slaughterhouse (nighttime). So either a day passes and they messed up, or after the meeting where Standish is killed, or possibly before, Blackwood went to get the machine from the slaughterhouse. “What a busy afterlife you’re having.”
That boat!! Whoa!! I betta get my ass back to heaven. Except this scene depicts a merger of good and evil. I painted that Pyramid for reason once. This movie has a lot of triggers for me. But it's like the script writers were afraid to really delve in into the Super natural. So Holmes got all this plot armor
IF the "rain" was actually flammable liquid as deduced but Sherlock Holmes in the end, why didn't the whole court yard go up in flames when that man dropped from the window?
The courtyard might’ve been so diluted by the rain that it wouldn’t be able to catch so effectively as Standish did, or perhaps it’s because he landed on the carriage instead of the front door where the liquid would’ve been most concentrated compared to the rest of the area.
Well it was actually raining outside. So once the liquid hit the ground, it would’ve mixed with the rainwater and likely have been diluted. Plus only the area around the front door was being doused in said liquid, and we aren’t sure where exactly his carriage was in reference to it.
@Marko Botic I think in the the context of this question, the guy was asking why didn’t ignite as the flaming body fell outside back into the “flammable rain”
I totally forgot he was the American Ambassador in this movie too haha. Probably immediately thought, "Oh great, Blackwood is over confident, has no idea what it would require to conquer & retake America...and he's going to ruin us in the process." Doesn't matter how weak America was at the time. They have geography on their side. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I wouldn't of played chance as lord blackwood did with that that one round was designed to back fire so the rest of the gun was operational if,I remember so if he discharged that round prior to that moment he would of been shot
It was a rigged bullet in standish's gun, all he needed was a spark from the phosphorus to ignite the karosene that he'd been drenched in prior to his entrance, being that it was odorless he mistaked it for rain as he walked in.
True. But the plan was not to conquer it by force, but through order. If Strandish, an abassador of the U.S, were to join him. Blackwood would be able to infiltrate the White House through him and starts gaining follower from inside out. Once he have enough member in the U.S government, all he has to do is appears there and perform some tricks to show how powerful his "magic" is. Especially since he would have already become well-known should the poison in the parliament goes off.
I'm 99% sure that's why Standish finally went against him...He was the American Ambassador and knew better than any of them what "retaking" America would require. Blackwood would ruin them trying to attack America and he knew it. _(His face when listening Blackwood go on about how weak America is just screams "omg you cannot be trusted to make foreign policy decisions" lol.)_ Doesn't matter how weak America was (and it was *very* weak, Blackwood was correct; we were in no place to fight another war at that time). America still had geography on our side...and that's why even in modern day, with modern technology, it's still easier to hijack a local plane then try to attack the US mainland from across the ocean. RIP Standish 😂
It was later explained by Holmes that Blackwood's clique bribed Standish'es servant to load that incendiary blank into his pistol. But had Standish, for any reason, re-loaded his gun with a live round after that but prior to coming to this meeting he would have shot Blackwood nevertheless...
