You make it look doable, but geez! Totally worth the final product. Those are beautiful and i love them! It was chilling to hear you mention the hurricane approaching. So thankful your family is safe but sad for all the destruction and upheaval.
@@paws2play thank you so much, Paws. Yeah, I discovered that little trick about adding pillow to the leading edge of the palette knife real quick after my first one rolled over itself as I was loading it on. So when you run into a problem, you have to figure out a way out and that’s what my solution was. It definitely is doable is when you’re transferring it to transfer slowly to start with with your intention of getting the center of the cell activators to land in the center of theornament and then lift the pallet knife on a deeper angle as you keep going off the edge on the backside. These are definitely a little tedious, but because I had so many to create for this order, I came up with a really good assembly line doing multiple things at the same time if you could believe it. Hi Louise, glad I saved this to watch. Your talents are outstanding. Life gets busy, how are you all in your area?. I am always praying for people able to help, do. 😊 Watching is very relaxing and inspiring.
Thank you KC😘 Depends on the area. Where we are we’re fine because we have well water but all of-Asheville right now is with water that’s not drinkable as the water treatment facility got destroyed and it’s going to take a little while to recover and re build. It’s going to take a while for many parts to recover, and some will never recover because it’s been completely wiped out. This was a storm like I’ve never experienced before. I’m glad my videos are relaxing and inspiring color. That makes me feel good thank you.
Oh yay it’s that time of year again when you wow us with your beautiful ornaments! Doing a happy dance my friend. You are brilliant Louise! Where do you sell them? 💖😍
These were on commission, I wasn’t even planning on making any of this year and then all of a sudden I got several people asking for bunches of them. Honestly, there’s so much trouble to make.🤣 it really is hardly worth the effort😂 But at least I had figured out a great assembly line set up so that it didn’t take me as long as it did last year. I’ve only sold these directly to people not in shops, but I might take some downtown. If is still open I don’t even know.
Wow! These looks so amazing Louise ❤👏 . So nice to see you again 😀. Thank you for sharing your magnificent Christmas bulb creations 🌲. I hope everything is going well with you 💝💞😎🙏🌹😇. Have a great weekend. Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.
Thanks so much Mark, well besides recovering from Hurricane Helene, all is good. Looking forward to our 1st grandchild in December and just went back CA first her baby shower and our son’s wedding!
Absolutely gorgeous and inspiring. It gave me an idea. The colors remind me of the thin blue line colors. I think these would be a perfect gift for my husband to gift to the other deputies and the sheriff for Christmas. I think I’ll work in a little TLP Benevolence as that seems fitting.
Thank you so much, Robyn, and definitely use some of that TLP benevolence. When I was in the military, I was a military police officer, but I can’t imagine being a civilian cop! Good luck with the ornaments💙
@@LouiseMcKayArt i know when you said they are much harder than the lazy Susan I laughed and thought yes they are. 😂🤣 You are doing a great job with everything. ❤
Louise, I am making these ornaments for Christmas gifts for my family. The one thing you do not mention is 1.) how long do you let them dry before varnishing. And 2) how long do you let the varnish dry before they are ready to ship? I’m worried about marring the surface if I wrap them in tissue and/or something to protect them to ship. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate these tutorials that you do. Because of you, I will be able to give my family something very unique and beautiful for Christmas!
Hi J, I know I’ve mention in some of these videos, dry for 3 days to be sure, varnish 3x waiting an hour in between, varnish dries quickly and no problem shipping next day wrapped I. The original plastic they came in. Glad I’ve helped and hope your family enjoys them
Oh my, my dear Louise, these works have gone through many stages of beauty. This video has a lot of creativity. You are very skilled, my dear Louise, in all the details.
Louise, Wow! Talk about tedious, long time, and just hard work to create these bulbs...This is amazing 😲 articulate artistry for sure!! And, to make 15 each, "Girl you got your work cut out for you"! What a challenge, you are courageous 🤩 Louise, you put so much of yourself into your art creations, that anyone who watches you work, will know you put a little of your "heart and soul" into each piece 💯 Also, your ideas to dry these bulbs is ingenious 😉 Girl your "rock' this for sure!!! And, Louise, I see what destruction Helene did to your back yard, and the video of you and your husband walking down you road, after Helene went through, and how it broke my heart to see the beauty around you change so much 😞 but to see you use some of the branches, left behind, makes me know you are the kind of person, who takes bad happenings and turns them into workable items of use again....Take care, my friend...sending love and hope to all...🤗☺❤ "Oh, these ornaments are the most perfect and beautiful ones I've seen done, for years...Thanks for sharing your gift of art!!!
Thank you so much, Jude, these really are a labor of love and I probably wouldn’t have made any ornaments this year, but I was asked, and now I have several batches I’ve committed to. I truly appreciate your comment about their beauty, they did really turn out very nice, and this was a color combination dictated by the lady who ordered them. And yeah, about my property, we have a lot of cleanup to do and we probably had about. I would say 50 trees either fallen or snapped from the storm that most of which will just fall into the forest and be reconstituted in the land. It was brutal, but once again it’s all in how you look at it, and I needed a piece of wood to hold these ornaments up as they were drying, and look at what I did😅 there’s no shortage of wood now😂
@@LouiseMcKayArt Replenishment, seems like that is "how you look at something" and using what was destroyed in one way, is remade in another....Pace yourself, these truly are a labor of love...Be safe, sending hope to all, wrapped in words of "Faith"....🤗☺❤

Thank you, 💙Nancy. Glad you’re safe as well. As bad as the trees were and we probably had 30 down on our road up and down the road, probably 50 trees fall on our fall on our property, and one that landed on our roof, I’d say we fared pretty well, despite the facts. We’re in cleanup mode for sure. I’ve got a strategize which trees to take down before something else happens.

These are gorgeous, Louise. I love the outcome! I've been able to keep some of my left-over paints for so many months that I suspect I've had some I've kept successfully going toward a year! If you can imagine that! I've just had to check on them now and then and reconstitute them and they've made it through! In fact, I've used some of them quite recently with success within the paintings I've done (and will show soon!) Thank you for the wonderful presentation, Louise. 🥰🥰
Thank you, Holly. Yes this leftover paint comes perfectly in handy for this application. Even if it gets a little thick, a little bit of water or regular pillow paint and it’s all good again. I’ll be doing more of these, on order. I wouldn’t have done any of these if it weren’t for people asking me, honestly, I take a little bit of effort😉

Thanks so much Tom!😘 I really appreciate your sentiment. I have another video coming out tomorrow of an Art Fusion piece the I created partly the night of Helene 😳where I cover THAT day! I’m hoping that comes across as calming too!
Wow Louise! these ornaments are gorgeous. I was doing to try and do some last year but ran out of time. Thank you for tips!! Oh wow, maybe I can find a downed cactus to drill holes into to hold my ornaments. hehe I’m thinking that you have a ton of firewood for a few years that is if they don’t pass the “this will make a cool fusion piece” sort. I can’t wait to see what you do for the 29th!!
Thanks Kim💙, you definitely need time to spend on these suckers! And yes, plenty of firewood however we have a gas fireplace😂( lady) but wood for a lifetime for sure. And the wood is too fresh for a fusion😉
Those are really beautiful! They do look tedious but at least you get both sides at once!! Great use of old wood for the holder. Looking forward to your video on the 29th. ❤
Beautiful!!!! And your instructions are spot on. I understood everything. You are a great teacher!!! Thank you!!! Could you explain why they call the paint, pillow paint?
@@LadyLeda2 thank you Leda💙, ShrleeArt is the originator of this process and called it a pillow, probably simply because all the other paints rest on top of it and float over it as you are creating your composition. By the way, welcome, I think you’re new here and FYI I have many playlists broken down by category and I do a lot of functional art. I have another ornament video coming out tomorrow that is really good, and I have playlists for all kinds of things like Lazy Susan’s, coasters, charcuterie boards, clocks…
Is the advantage to transferring the bloom rather than blooming directly on the ornaments having more control over the outcome? I just see a lot of wasted paint not going on the ornaments and more work so I wonder what the extra effort is for. It does look stunning but so does blooming directly onto the ornaments, as far as I have seen. Do you find the underside comes out better with this tecnique? Just curious, loving these tutorials and hoping to improve my techniques ♡♡♡
Thank you, Mary, hardly anything goes to waste as I recycle all of it when I’m done with my days pouring. So don’t let the extra look like it’s a waste because it goes on to another creation. And without a doubt in my mind, the blue transfer is much better than blooming Directly S it gives the bloom time to set up a little bit before putting it on the ornament and you have control over where the bloom goes. When I have bloomed directly on the ornament, the blowout just blows apart the cells. And I’m pretty good about blowouts, but because of the shape of the ornament when you’re blowing directly on it it really stretches out the bloom and then gravity pulls on it. Yes, it’s more effort, but in my opinion, it’s well worth it. The underside and both looks the same.
@LouiseMcKayArt great that makes so much sense, thank you for explaining!! Sorry if you already mentioned this in another video somewhere or if I missed it. Great info :)
Thanks Louise I’ve done a couple of dozen so far. My goal is to have enough to sell at a village fete. Raising money for breast cancer care. Fingers crossed they look half as good as yours.
Thank you so much Doreen for the question. I should’ve mentioned it. Actually I literally got them from a wine shop where they have an overflow of wine corks. All I did is shove the skewer into it, and then inserted that into the mouth of the ornament.
Love these Louise 💞 Curious, with the varnish, why do you do a 80/20 mix vs straight varnish? Is it just easier to apply? Stretches the varnish supply longer? Thanks as always for sharing your process 😊
Love your tutorials Louise! Your ornaments are amazing! Hope to make some soon! One question, what do you put in the neck of the ornament that your sticks go into to hold them steady? Is it cork? If so where do you find it to fit? Thank you so much for all your tips!!! So very helpful!
Hi Crystal💙, it’s a wine cork on a skewer stick. With these ornaments that are the Desk style off Amazon, a cork that’s perfectly as it’s a wide neck. I got the cork from a wine bar downtown, didn’t even have to pay for it. I’m gonna have another tutorial coming up maybe two for ornaments, same style, but I’ve learned so much even from when I put out this video. There are so many nuances.
Thanks so much Cory😘 yeah, I forgot to mention that part, yes, I have a wine, cork inserted in the neck of the ornament with a skewer inside the cork. Darn I wish I’d shown that part. Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers.💙💙
Those are beautiful. What do you do with your pour over skins? I would be interested in buying some from you. Please let me know. Thanks for your videos.
Thank you💙these go straight on the ornament, no skins with ornaments, but I do make skins for charcuterie and wood boards or fusion pieces. You’re really looking for skins? I certainly can do them, please email me ( in description)
Take a look at my description I have information there. I know I saw show in the video my base or pillow as it’s called are my scrap paints from prior pours. I have no accelerator I don’t know what that is even.
Thank you, yeah, I forgot to mention it is a skewer with a wine cork in it with the wine cork pushed into the mouth of the ornament!💙 the other end of the skewer in the drill!
I’ve watched this video as well as the round ornament video that you did. Do you use plastic globes or do you use the glass ones? And you said the first layer is glue… is that just plain Elmers glue? I’ve gotta tell you these are absolutely stunning. I love them so much.❤
Hi Carrie and welcome. First and most importantly, There’s no glue here. Please don’t misunderstand that, I believe I said it was my scrap paint combined with my Glidden, Glidden, meaning my pillow paint, which is Glidden’s 6011N. The first layer is just scraps from other paint pours that I’ve strained out and repurposed for this pillow so it’s a combination of my other paint from prior pours. If there was glue, you would see something completely white, any paint I’m using here has some kind of color to include the pillow. But nowhere in this do I use glue at all. Actually, I never use glue ever so I just wanna make sure that’s clear😅 I’ve painted on both glass and plastic showerproof discs and the discs are always plastic. They both perform the same at least in my experience. Thank you so much and you may want to check out my playlist if you don’t realize I have one. th-cam.com/play/PLD3gEym1bn-MOXsr6zlMMGYn7A4-R7uow.html&si=ZWiLWc5ZPudKICN9

Did you say you'll have some of your art pieces for sale next week? Is it a public auction or online? Best wishes for the fundraiser! We were fortunate this side of Aiken, SC. So much damage right down the road. Take care!
Yes, Sheila. It is the collaborative fundraiser auction that’s going to happen 3 November, I will get more details as as the time approaches. The premiere for the creation I’m going to put up for auction will be next Tuesday, 29 October, I think my part is at 6:15 but again I’ll put that specific information out later as well. I’m not sure which creation I’m creating. I did too. Depends on how they all dry, I created a Lazy Susan, and a, 14 inch cradle board round swipe I will embellish, all created with the TLP benevolence that was provided to us to create. The damage in the backyard that you saw was hardly anything compared to some The Day After. I have a video of if you want to take a look at how devastated the mountains were with trees everywhere. @@ScenterSquare wow, thank you SO much for that. I’d like to think I know how to break pieces of info down to the simplest form for that “ah ha” moment. I think if you’re gonna spend your time here, you should be getting some practical information to help you do your own.
Louise this is an amazing tutorial on how to do ornaments using fluid art, I love it and you are very informative, I'm hoping to try ornaments this year. Thank you so much for this video and they turned out beautifully. Love the finished ornaments 🥰☺🥰

This is the first time I have seen you in my feed & I am so glad you did. These ornaments are gorgeous!!!! My husband is from Silva/Dillsboro area. I am so sorry y'all were hit so hard. We had Hurricane Michael visit us 6 years ago & things are still not totally recovered. Michael was a cat 5 with sustained winds of 185 MPH. It got us really bad in the panhandle of Florida.
Geez, sorry you had your run against Michael, yeah Helene was fierce. Well, I’m glad I popped up in your feed and Welcome!! 🤗 just so you know I do have playlist for most of my creations. I do a lot of functional art like Lazy Susan, coasters, clocks, charcuterie, boards, jars, and as you see ornaments. I will link my ornaments so you can see other creations.

These are beautiful and like you said, a lot of work. I live a couple hours from Asheville in Gaston County, NC, and we had a lot of trees down even in our area. Luckily we only had one tree down. Glad you are ok.
You are amazing 🤩

Thank you so much💙, it definitely is labor-intensive and certainly a labor of love. And certainly I do not charge enough. Wow Louise! these ornaments are gorgeous. I was doing to try and do some last year but ran out of time. Thank you for tips!!
Good luck Smithy! Glad to help. I’ll have another tutorial that provides TONS more big tips!💙
Quick question: where to get and what size cork stoppers do you use?
Thank you so much Doreen for the question. I should’ve mentioned it. Actually I literally got them from a wine shop where they have an overflow of wine corks. All I did is shove the skewer into it, and then inserted that into the mouth of the ornament.
Thanks Louise! Great video! Do you have a cork in the top hole?
Hi Stacy, darn, I forgot to mention that. Yes, I have a skewer pushed into a cork, and the cork pushed into the neck of the ornament, a wine cork.🧡
Love these Louise 💞 Curious, with the varnish, why do you do a 80/20 mix vs straight varnish? Is it just easier to apply? Stretches the varnish supply longer? Thanks as always for sharing your process 😊
Thanks Anne💙it’s stretches the mileage and the varnish stays “open” longer for spreading too!
Can you share a link for where you get your cork? Im sure amazon would have them but i dont know what size. BTW your bulbs are absolutely gourgous!
Thank you, Julie💙 I got all my cork from a wine bar, these ornaments have wide necks. Wine bar, better than Amazon!!!
I asked to soon 😅😅😅
I haven’t senior question yet, so I guess you found the answer🥲
What did you use to plug the top of the ornament? I am assuming wine cork? These oraments are just beautiful. I have everyone in my prayers.
Beautifully done as always! Have a question for you. Are these glass or plastic ornaments you are working with? Thanks for all the help.
Hi Janice, thanks, these are plastic💙
R what paints you r using for base, then decorating (do they have to be acrylic based or anything) & what the accelerator is called? Thank you 😊
Take a look at my description I have information there. I know I saw show in the video my base or pillow as it’s called are my scrap paints from prior pours. I have no accelerator I don’t know what that is even.
Hi Louise!! Glad to see you back to videos!! What is it that you have attached to the drill? Is it a sort of drill bit?
Thank you, yeah, I forgot to mention it is a skewer with a wine cork in it with the wine cork pushed into the mouth of the ornament!💙 the other end of the skewer in the drill!
@@LouiseMcKayArt thanks!!
@@LouiseMcKayArt thanks!!
@ Thank you so much for Clarifying (love the idea of repurposing leftover paint😀). I have seen a few other artist make the ornaments, but I really felt yours by far have been the prettiest❣️❣️❣️
How do you hang the ornament to dry ?
Ha ha there it is, yes I also show how to varnish and let them dry this video as well. I also have a playlist with other ornament creations and playlist for all of my other functional art if you want to take a look.💙
How long did it take you to master this? You make everything look so easy and it’s definitely not 😂 ❤
Well, I’ve been blooming for almost 2 years when I tried this, and it took me two tries to have initial success, and then multiple tries to hone down the process💙
I’ll link it here if you want to take a look plus, we also had a tree land on our roof and I have a short video showing that as well.
