But it’s a reality and things happen and it’s just a reminder to always be careful. Thank you for being here. I appreciate your support.!!
Louise that turned out stunning. All I caught was the first color being mixed with another color and I thought you said it'd be in the description but I don't see the colors in there. It seems like you know the exact amount a face paint to put on and never waste a drop. It is just gorgeous.
Hi Lisa, I do call all the colors out in the video at around 3:50 seconds. I used to list all the colors straight up in the description, but unfortunately, what was happening was that people were seeing my thumbnail and just copying my color combinations and not watching the video, so now I just either write them and text in the videos or call them out either which way you will find it in the video I’m sorry. The first color was a homemade green, but I do say it’s mixed with, but it’s a complete custom color.
Hi Tracy, 😘the less paint you have left on the less chance of cracking or drying problems. Thank you for being here. I appreciate your support and comment.🧡

Thank you, Lori, what I’ve learned since this creation video is, if you have an X-Acto blade, lay it flat along the edge, heat up the edge with a heat gun, run that blade through. It goes through like butter. Much safer than the chisel that I had been using, and extremely effective. I’ll probably do another video on that in my upcoming, lazy Susan I will have coming out in the next few days! Stay tuned… Thank you for being🧡

I noticed labels stickers under the piece. Best way I've found to remove them is with Krud Kutter (orange label from Home Depot). Spray it on and let sit a couple minutes then wipe off the label. Hope that is a helpful tip. Thank you so much for this video. Not too long for all the information you gave!! Sorry about the fingers.
Thank you, Scott, I was trying to be cute and got reckless. I have since discovered that an X-Acto blade is the best way to go certainly safer more precise and cleaner. Thank you for the tip on the crud cutter. I’ll check it out but these labels come off pretty easy. They’re not the kind that adhere really hard. And if you’ve been around, you’ll see that I try to keep my videos is concise and tight as possible to save everybody time, it does cost me more time upfront, but I’m thinking that people probably appreciate that in the end. Yeah, can't believe I got bit by the chisel, love that tool too! I'm on the mend, just have to splint my worst finger, the middle one so it can heal without stretching the skin. I'm good and a little mad at myself for being careless.
Thanks Cory, sorry to hear that I get mine from IKEA there about $17.99 plus tax you have to be careful, I bought a couple off of Amazon and they warped, cheaper, but not good
Thank you, Debbie, actually since this my finger is fine and I realize that the easiest way of doing this is with an X-Acto blade. I have it in one of the videos since then, but I don’t know which one, but it is easy Peezy.

Your videos are very helpful and I love your colour combos, I already have one of yours in mind! So thank you for that!! @@joeycasey2323 love dem bears. Yeah, in the blow can be done multiple ways and one of these times I should do a video on different techniques, I mean, I usually have my way of blowing straight down and then blowing out but I just did some coasters yesterday where I did it like Shelly Art blowing straight down in one huge puff and they came out gorgeous, more cells less lacing. One of these days I should do a video on that.
Oddly, I wear progressive glasses and was having trouble finding where to blow and Shelee said she couldn't blow with her progressive glasses either so she takes them off. Thank you, Maggie, 🧡the depth of the pillow is not as important as what the depth of the creation is as you’re about to finish up. I always on my functional pieces test the depth to make sure I have spun enough paint off. I do not have a problem with cracking, fortunately.
Thank you for sharing this video!! It was so helpful! This is beautiful! Can I ask a ballpark for what you charge for these? I know you are a professional and I wouldn’t charge as much! I would love to see a creation video of the cutting boards too!
Thank you, Denise, it really depends on what your market will bear wherever you are. You have to factor in all the cost and what it’s worth to you in the end. I’m sure I don’t charge enough but I’m just glad I have an outlet that is pretty regular with sales at the store downtown, plus I’ve made a good amount of sales on my own where I make the most. @@deborahwolz1628 the weather definitely warrants it to be warmer, which makes it more viscous and easier to stir thus creating less bubbles. I created that video in January in North Carolina.
Great tutorial. Don't quite understand why you varnish the lazy Susan before applying the paint. Looks like the wood is already treated with something.
Thank you Barbara, 😘I’ve had too many bad experiences so I just varnish with what I know works, it’s too depressing to create something really pretty and then come to find the next day that it doesn’t work out. can you see how hard it is to varnish it so it’s really an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
@@dellamclamb3122 hi Della, I was at first, watched it like a hawk, but then never had any problem plus the heat lamp is not directly next to the plastic. There’s a little space between as I have a little tent, holding the heat lamp up, which gives plastic some space.
Do you ever tape the sides and not just the back? Is it just a personal preference to leave the sides painted or exposed? By the way I love your work thank you for your videos.
Hi Kat, funny you ask, I've never taped the sides... I guess I prefer to have the composition spill over the sides. I'm thinking it would be tough to get a perfect tape off on the sides bc the sides are rounded off on the IKEA LS.
@@susanbrocksmith4255 I let it cure at least two weeks prior to resin, after resident I let it sit at least one week before I do anything with it. If I sell it right away, I tell people not to do anything with it for 30 days.
Can you tell me why you varnish the top? You mention "protecting it" but I dont understand from what? Doesnt the varnish prevent the paint from curing better? You are the expert I just dont understand. BTW I have purchased all your supplied and Im ready to BLOOM!! :)
The resin I use is definitely not odorless, but nowhere near as bad as a smoker it stays fairly localized the smell, but good ventilation would help extract it.
Resin question. Resin hates me and Im not to crazy about it at this time. I notice you dont check temperature on your resin? When you are mixing in "warm bath" how does it thin the resin if the stirring is activating the resin to start heating up? Im missing something and I cant figure it out Louise!
Hi Oh, heat makes the resin more viscous (thinner) just think of your butter in the refrigerator and what happens to it when you warmed it up, it gets liquefied, same idea with the resin. And when the resin is more thin, it’s easier to stir, and therefore you mix less air bubbles into it, stirring it up. And honestly, I don’t recall a time where my resin has gotten hot, I know it can quick cure on people, but that’s never happened to me.
@@LouiseMcKayArt I did the warm water mixing bath and it did make it thinner but then I covered a glass paint pour container and as it cured it got so thick that a big ol blob of resin worked its way to the bottom of the turner. Thanks heaven I saw it and was able to remove it very carefully. Still out there turning but looks much better.
@@ohcheap1 oh my goodness, I don’t know exactly what you’re saying, the warm bath should make it thinner and easier to work with. I’m not sure about the blob, glad you got it out…I hope it works out for you😘
Well this tutorial is timely. I’m just about to do my first lazy Susan. 😁 Does the added coat of Minwax Polycrylic help seal the edges of your tape, preventing paint bleeding under the tape on the underside? I’ve had issues with bleeding when working on odd or rounded shapes that are difficult to tape. And my painters tape doesn’t particularly want to stick well on pre-finished wood.
Well, I’m glad this is timely! lol. Honestly, I don’t know, I do know that when I do peel up the tape, sometimes with the additional help of a heat gun and definitely the chisel running through it, it comes up pretty clean. A little sandpaper afterwards and you’re all set. I haven’t had a trouble with the resin getting under the tape so possibly the varnish is helping but like I say I can’t be 100% certain.
@@LouiseMcKayArt Thanks for sharing your tidbits of wisdom with us. I really appreciate it. I taped my LS up this afternoon and put a light coat of Polycrylic on it. I’m ready to give it a go.

Thank you so much 💙🩵Phyllis I’m so glad my tutorials are hitting the spot!! Please support me by spreading the word and help me grow so we all can benefit😘
Louise such a beautiful Lazy Susan. Awesome colors and lots of information that you have shared. ❤❤❤. Oh so sorry about your finger. I was cleaning coasters with an exacto knife and sliced my finger. Those tools are dangerous.
Thanks Carolyn, 😘yeah and actually, I had turned the camera off before I started playing around where I got injured, just as well you all don’t need to see that part lol. But it’s a reality and things happen and it’s just a reminder to always be careful. Thank you for being here. I appreciate your support.!!
Looks like an eagle head!
Cool observation!
The first color was a homemade green, but I do say it’s mixed with, but it’s a complete custom color.
beautiful =Videos never to long=thank you for step by step
Thanks so much 😘Karen, I guess I’m hyper concerned to keep videos concise, I’ll reevaluate the value of keeping more in !😀
I really love your work. Beautiful. I'm subscribed and look forward to more beauty to come. Thank you for sharing one of your God given talents.
Thanks so much Alice for being with me and I hope to continue earning your trust in art! !💞!💞
Why is the paint depth important? Haven’t noticed any other artist talk about that.
Love you work and thank you for all your great tips.
Hi Tracy, 😘the less paint you have left on the less chance of cracking or drying problems. Thank you for being here. I appreciate your support and comment.🧡
Getting prepared to finish off my first lazy susan. Poured a swipe on it last night - it's a whopping 45cms (17.75") bamboo one. It's a test for some finer wood ones. Thanks again for your tuts Louise.
Thank you so much, Cath🧡, I can’t wait to see it
Beautiful! Thank you for the tutorial!
Thank you,😘 Dawn Marie
Louise, this was a long video, but it was well worth the watch! The colors are amazing! The end results are amazing! This one is stunning!
Thank you so much, ❄️💙Deborah, I actually tried to find a video like this for lazy Susan’s, and there is no such thing. So I thought I would create a complete tutorial to help anyone out who might want to know the whole process. This one took me a while.!!!

Thank you Louise...your lazy susan is really beautiful 💕

I never would have thought to varnish before painting so the wood doesn’t warp. Thank tou for a great tutorial!
Thank you, Maggie, your name is new here so I’m assuming you just found me. Or at least our commenting for the first time. And yes, my tutorials often are filled with all kinds of tips and troubleshooting to help you out in your creations.🧡

Thank you, 🧡Carlotta, I hope this was beneficial tutorial for you. I have lots more to look at including when I just released yesterday.

Thanks so much, Jeanne🧡
This is a genius tutorial!! So many little steps that are necessary that I just didn't think of! Each one is just stunning! I hope your finger is getting better!!! ❤
Thanks so much Janese, Happy New Year!🎊
Wonderfull amazing love it 🥰😍🤩
Thanks again Claude😘I appreciate you taking your time to look around!🧡
Sorry about your fingers!!! Thank you for all of your teaching!! Beautiful ❤️
Stay tuned… Thank you for being🧡
@@LouiseMcKayArt I’ve had a lazy susan for 6 months. Been too afraid to try😂😂but you have inspired me. Do you have any videos on tricks to spinning and keeping the middle in the middle??😂😂or is this just a practice till you get it right?
On a side note, I appreciate your teaching so much. Thank you. I also love how you don’t waste paint💕

Yours is stunning ❣️
✌️💜😊
Awesome Dee, best wishes!!😘
I mean, you won’t see me wasting time going acros the room to pick up something or any number of things people do while the cameras running.
I had to watch this again...i finally broke down and ordered a few Lazy Susans and needed a refresher....thanks again for all your helpful videos 💕
Thank you so much, Lori, I appreciate that. If you’re anywhere near Washington DC from the sixth to 8 August, I’ll gladly help you out in person as I’m teaching three classes there for the Fluid Art Boutique.😄😄

Great tutorial Louise! You missed one part of the tutorial 😮 the taping of your fingers 😢 geeze Louise be careful my friend! Yikes! 😬
lol Donna, I don’t need to get a TH-cam strike now do I lol. Yeah, and like I said, it wasn’t even in removing the tape that I cut myself, just a careless moment, where I didn’t know where my secondhand was. Thank you for being here I appreciate you😘😘😘😘

Thank you so much sweet niece Aishu! I’m glad you liked this, kinda long but with all the step, hard to be much shorter, but thorough!
Very good tutorial Louise! It never occurred to me to use a heat lamp! I’ll try that next time it’s cold! And……OUCH!❤️🩹 Hope you’re healing quickly!
Thanks Shelli,💕 yeah, the heat lamp works for me and I've never seen anyone else show that and warming the resin on cold days helps too. Yeah, can't believe I got bit by the chisel, love that tool too! I'm on the mend, just have to splint my worst finger, the middle one so it can heal without stretching the skin. I'm good and a little mad at myself for being careless.

Hello Jocelyn🇨🇦 all the way from Canada. You’re welcome and hope these tutorials help.😘
You’re such a trooper! Thank you for the complete tutorial.
Thank you, Debbie, actually since this my finger is fine and I realize that the easiest way of doing this is with an X-Acto blade. I have it in one of the videos since then, but I don’t know which one, but it is easy Peezy.
To take off the tape you have to take air dryer or hot gun its aisyer, sorry my english is not the best thank you, but what you did is very very beautiful !
Thank you, Linda, 😘yes, you could use a heat gun to assist, (I have as well, and I thought I listed it as an optional, item to use but I see it’s not there) but I really didn’t need it as this pulled off pretty nicely as I worked through it. But you are right a heat, gun or torch does help if it’s very stuck.
This tutorial was wonderful. Thank you for doing it. I hope your injury has healed up well. 👍
Thanks so much Cathy😘, it took a couple weeks but we’re fine!
Congrats on all the sales! Love that Nanete Green. This came out beautifully and looks so good with the resin. Hope your finger heals quickly 😮 Great tutorial!

Thanks Joey😘, a momentary mental lapse🥲 but alls well! You’ll do great and get those consistencies right and learn the blow and you’ll be fine!!
I already had a mini class from Shelee herself in Las Vegas, Pour Con. But I didn't do the blow quite right. So I know my consistencies, I think it will be just a practice and patience issue! Your videos are very helpful and I love your colour combos, I already have one of yours in mind! So thank you for that!! By the way I also live amongst wild life here in the Northern Cascade Mountains in BC Canada. I love bears!!
@@LouiseMcKayArt
@@joeycasey2323 love dem bears. Yeah, in the blow can be done multiple ways and one of these times I should do a video on different techniques, I mean, I usually have my way of blowing straight down and then blowing out but I just did some coasters yesterday where I did it like Shelly Art blowing straight down in one huge puff and they came out gorgeous, more cells less lacing. One of these days I should do a video on that.
Oddly, I wear progressive glasses and was having trouble finding where to blow and Shelee said she couldn't blow with her progressive glasses either so she takes them off. Well when I take my glasses off, I can't even see the friggin painting!!! I have a mini blower with Tracie Reeds attachments and was going to try that. You are so welcome Cathy 💙🤍and thank you! Spread the word!
Have you ever tested the depth of your pillow paint? Just wondered how to know how thick it should be. Too thick and cracking occurs.
Honestly I don’t feel real comfortable discussing pricing on my TH-cam channel, I know I have at least one resin board tutorial. I’ll have to see if I can find it but I do these fairly frequently because they sell very well too, th-cam.com/video/nj1MwZRkQoM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=w9M2os5VxAINsX86. This is an early one. I have improved since here, but I haven’t posted videos for this because people don’t usually watch a resin video from me. But maybe I’ll make another one when I do it the next time.

I don't think I've seen any other artists warming the resin in warm water. Is it due to the weather that warrants it there, or is it the brand?
So beautiful. Do u ever use a different color cell activator?
Thank you😘 Vicki, yes I have used gold and other opaque Amsterdam occasionally
In your tents. Are you not afraid of the polistic getting to hot?
Thank you for doing this Louise! Beautiful lazy Susan! Question - which of the 4 types of resin did you use?
Thank you Cheryl😘 on this I usedI KS Resin, Liquidstone Ultra UV Epoxy
Nice tutorial and lovely finished product!!
Why not just pour the layers of colors rather than using a stick??
Thank you Jane😘 yeah, most people pour and it’s faster, but I prefer drizzling as I believe it allows more color blending to take place.
Thank you.
fantastic! everything I needed to know ... except: how long do you let the paint cure before applying resin? thanks so much.
Thank you, 😊 that’s how I try to make my tutorials. I hope you subscribe for more. I wait at least 2 weeks
What is the lazy Susan used for ,food platter or wall art?
Whatever anyone wants or needs it for. It is made to be a lazy Susan in a practical sense but certainly could be used as well. Art or anything.🧡
How long do you cure your paint prior to resin? And how long do you let the resin sit prior to putting it up for sale? 30 days each step=60 days?
@@susanbrocksmith4255 I let it cure at least two weeks prior to resin, after resident I let it sit at least one week before I do anything with it. If I sell it right away, I tell people not to do anything with it for 30 days.
Can you tell me why you varnish the top? You mention "protecting it" but I dont understand from what? Doesnt the varnish prevent the paint from curing better? You are the expert I just dont understand. BTW I have purchased all your supplied and Im ready to BLOOM!! :)
Awesome, yes, I mention the varnish is for protection… so the paint doesn’t warp the wood as it dries, which could happen…
@@LouiseMcKayArt OOOOooooooooo........... warping. Thats the ticket. :) Thank you!
Fantastic tutorial thank you from the UK. How long do you leave them to dry before you resin?
Thanks Julie!😘 I leave about 10 days before resining!!
How long does it take for paint to dry before u put on sealer
I wait at least 10 days!🧡
I literally need a video showing how you put the plastic on and tape. I’m getting very frustrated with myself
Hi Susan, 😘I realized in the last couple of Lazy Susan’s. I don’t need the plastic so that saves you half of it.😅 just get the tape down!
@@LouiseMcKayArt I finally figured I need to “pleat” the tape 😂 ugh
Is the resin odorless cause I live in a condo and would hate to have someone complain about the smell? Tks.
I’m not sure about the blob, glad you got it out…I hope it works out for you😘
How much resin do you use for a lazy Susan?
Hi Karen, about 5 oz
Beautiful and ouch
Thanks Kathy, it’s all good, use an Xacto blade!
