The idea that the Newcastle players aren't good enough based on the league position is disingenuous. Those same players, defence and midfield in particular, looked like actual players under Benitez. There was even talk of England caps for Lascelles and Shelvey, and a £50m transfer for Longstaff. I don't necessarily believe Benitez would be the right choice moving forward, I personally would much rather a coach that values youth players. But the performances under his watch, and without the investment that Steve Bruce has been afforded, illustrates that those players are certainly up to task (as well as the gulf in ability between Bruce and a capable manager.)

I'm my opinion they better off going for their long-term manager and pay them what they want because it won't be as much as getting someone in for 6-18mths, spending big amounts in January on players that aren't the long-term managers choice, we already have ppl on long contracts we can't get rid off so why increase that problem, we may have unlimited money but you can only spend within fair play rules so why waste that on short term players/manager, our club/position atm may not be attractive for long-term ppl but the money we'd pay them is....sad times paying over the odds on greed but thats what football has become!

You can't judge him on one season when Bournemouth got relegated. In the previous 4 or 5seasons he kept them up and finished in the top half and don't forget he took them from League 2 to the Premier League. The year he got relegated his best striker Wilson was injured for most of the season.
