I literally started playing the game an hour ago and searched for your optimization guide but got sad that you hadn't posted one yet and now I just saw this on my home page... what are the odds? love it.
Speaking about that..I'd like to see a shorter video with the unreal engine 5 unlocker..you can enable virtual shadow maps with that, which are disabled by default and makes shadows way more accurate.
Post processing, volumetric lighting and transparency are by far the settings that affect performance the most, so if you're encountering lots of stuttering especially in open areas, make sure you set these to the lowest setting for a smoother experience
Really appreciate your videos. Not only is the testing exhaustive, but you seem to actually know what you're talking about and you describe/understand the settings correctly. A lot of people don't know what a lot of these settings actually do, and since I've been a game dev for 15 years and am intimately familiar with all of them, it can be frustrating watching other videos where they just guess at what they think a setting does.
Man, I was looking forward to this video the whole day and you did not disappoint! Thank you, best AW2 optimization guide out there, I even like it better than the Digital Foundry one. Turns out that when you tweak the settings a bit, the game is not as heavy to run as it seems and it's a really small compromise to visual quality. Truly outstanding!
Digital Foundry will have yet Optimized settings. I'm still waiting for Alex's video to explain to people why this games is so good looking at least when played on highest settings. Great video though. I'm subscribed.
Man, that Depth of field thing was bugging me hard... I don't like it in any game, but here it was even worse. Everything flickers and shimmers when it's on. Happy that this is gone now, everything is very clear and detailed and no shimmering, thanks to this channel.
I have a RTX 4080 and even with DLSS quality I need to optimize in order to reach 60ish frames across the board with path tracing. Especially in the forest. The forest is a GPU killer.
The post-processing quality Has huge improvements to image quality when using upscalers, especially fsr, when used on high the post processing effects are applied post-upscaling, so it gets rid of a lot of the shimmering mainly present when using fsr even in it's quality mode, hence the noticeable impact on performance.
ong so many other people just set the settings to low and call it an “optimization guide” but with him he actually favors performance and quality at the same time
This video is WAY BETTER than Digital Foundry one, DA just recommend us to use the console setting and leave it on low setting. Thank you for this video
Very detailed and well done. Combined with DF‘s settings overview I think we got the perfect representation and a good idea of which settings to choose. Thanks a lot!
I almost always liked your videos at the first second I enter them because I know how thorough and good they are; thank you for all the games you reviewed and best settings you provide.
Wanted to drop a comment because today I finally dialed in the settings so it's running silky smooth on my 3070ti at 4k. I'm using all of your settings as you suggested but the post processing is at Medium since they don't seem to have the low option anymore and I bumped up the Spotlight quality to Medium as well but I also run it at Ultra Performance. Thanks for your well thought out and presented video, it was a great help.
Good guide! Bottom line is playing this at 1440p with my 4070 Ti is just better with these settings more or less in mind and RT off. Too much instability and lag with RT on, even with DLSS. The software-based lighting and "RT" effects look pretty impressive as is.
Devs should have given option to turn off dof, chromatic abretion, vignette in game Game is very detailed but very blurry and too dark in every video i see
Great upload. The general store area (at night), in the Culdron Lake camping grounds, was the most demanding area for me. I like how this game does not need a high frame rate to be immersive.
That's a good point. I have a 4080 super and started game a max 4K settings and saw I was only running 20 to 30 fps in those forest scenes. But... it was smooth thus having that frame counter turned on was the biggest disappointment.
Nice vid, it really help me out with my 6600 gpu. I was also tired of how the game look like a bit blurry so I edited the render ini and gosh it def looks way better.
Thank you so much, you're a lifesaver ❤ I popped open the game two days ago and was disappointed by the performance on the same gpu, and didn't have the patience to try and mix and match the settings (especially that I noticed running into this problem where tuning the settings multiple times specifically DLSS, even after switching it to performance it works but the performance is horrible so a restart is needed.I've actually seen some people talking about having the same issue)
Great work! Digital Foundry for some reason released an Optimized Settings video but it's trying to match the PS5, that's not what optimized settings means. You also included config file tweaks which is going above and beyond. I also came across your Remnant II video as well. DF is releasing more videos on console versions which I don't care about.
Bro thank you so much for this! With these optimized settings and the dlss to fsr frame gen mod I can finally have a great looking game w/ rt on my 3080ti all at a clear resolution and high fps!

Hey man, thank you for your detailed settings preferences! You helped me get my game to run so much smoother and saved me a tremendous amount of time trying to figure it out myself! Subbed!
What even the reviewers miss on this game. The 720p when scaled to 4k with DLSS looks just insane with full ray tracing + path tracing. This does require turning off multiple settings on ini file + setting a DLSS sharpening (I'm using 70 sharpening). Do this and the game runs and feels amazing. No idea how Nvidia and Remedy pulled this out, since this would require some insane AI training. The final image is just so sharp and detailed. I have tried playing with 1080p and 1440p, but always come back to 720p with max graphics. I don't care about max graphics that much, but 720p is the only resolution that offers my GPU the full lightning overhaul, so I can go all out. On forest area some graphic settings need to tune down, but even at LOW presets with max path tracing, the game looks sick. The best part, even at 720p, there's no flickering. This does take some VRAM (11GB+ with full settings when using 3080 Ti), but offers path tracing to low - mid level RTX 30 & 40 GPUs.

These games were legendary for being unoptimized great games. Do you think it can be the same situation with this game? It will only run 4K native high fps when the 50 series comes. All those games I named all run great at 1440 high; it’s only until people switch to 4K where the performance drops. Yeah, I know 4K is a medium jump in visual quality in my eyes, but it’s not as if going to 4K is like jumping from 480p to 1080p to justify the big fps drops. I really don’t know what’s going on to make the performance drop so bad.
