“i’ll write under a pseudonym you’ll see what i could do to him” - this makes me laugh so much cause a report released saying “jefferson is the worst person ever he deserves to rot here’s 51 pages why” EVERYONE WOULD KNOW WHO WROTE IT
One of my favourite parts of Washington on your side is the fact that Burr doesn’t add anything to the conversation. He started the song and then just went along with what Jefferson and Maddison were saying, he fuelled there fire and just watched the fire burn.
As for daveed diggs, he's wasn't even a musical theater performer, this was his first and last performance of this kind. He got the role because Lin asked him to as they were friends when Lin was writing hamilton.
When the time came for Chris Jackson's last performance of One Last Time, the standing ovation afterwards went on for so long it had to be forcefully cut short so they could continue the show
Not screaming, just a fun fact. Washington actually did only serve 8 years as president and refused to run for a third term, he is the originator of the 2 term limit. I've always considered that a lasting legacy of his (one of many) ❤ I always love watching you both!
Also, single term Presidents were a lot more common before the 20th century. Often, candidates would even promise not to run for re-election in their campaigns and usually kept it. The few presidents prior to FDR who wanted to run for a third term either lacked support from the public or their own party to seriously try and pull it off. The same was true for Truman, the last President who could run without term limits (as the 22nd Amendment specified it didn't apply to the sitting President at the time it came into effect), and LBJ, the only post-FDR "accidental President" who served a significant partial term prior to his first full term (Gerald Ford never got a full term and his partial term was too long for him to run a second time in the first place). Familiarity does not breed fondness in politics (unless you're the Queen).
For those curious: during the first election, it was pretty much all Washington, no one even tried to contest him. The second time, though there was someone also running for election, Washington won in a landslide, because he’s Washington. While he had the opportunity to run for a third term, he opted to forgo it, thus setting a tradition for every president there after to only run for two terms. This was broken occasionally and eventually became actual law when FDR became president three terms in a row and was going for a fourth if he didn’t die his first year in. Edit; thanks to a comment showing this is vague: FDR got into a fourth term, but died early into it.
To further elaborate, or in case it wasn't clear: FDR was elected to and began his fourth term, but died less than 3 months in. So he served three full terms, and 2 months 23 days of his fourth term (total 12.11 years). Even in the case of presidents who started with a partial term through the death or resignation of their predecessor, none of them went on to be officially elected twice and serve more than 8 years. Theodore Roosevelt, the longest of these prior to FDR, took over from McKinley less than a year into the administration, got elected, retired, and then failed in his later bid with the Progressive/Bull Moose Party. If he had won and survived, he would have ultimately served 11.47 years. Since FDR, it is possible to serve up to 10 years, provided that the partial term you inherit from the (now established) line of succession is less than 2 years. Harry Truman is the longest of these such presidents, serving a partial term of 3 years and 9 months. He was successfully elected once after this, but due to the aforementioned restrictions, could not pursue a "3rd" term. The only modern president who would have been eligible to serve longer than 8 years was Lyndon Johnson, as his partial term after JFK was just over a year long.
@@ForthwithJackal you are correct though Truman could have actually run for a 3rd term because a grandfather clause ment this new rule did not apply to him. He actually had his name on the New Hampshire primary ballot but pulled out because he was a long shot for winning the Democrat nomination let alone the election.
Hamilton and John Adams actually broke over the first election. Hamilton realized the problem they would have if all the electors voted for both Washington and Adams. So Hamilton arranged for a few of the electors to not vote for Adams so you end up with Washington as President and Adams as Vice President instead of them tying. Adams thought Washington should probably be president but that he should have had a chance to compete. And Adams never forgave Hamilton.
Casper’s reaction is so telling that Mortius doesn’t curse at all and it’s glorious. Also I love how in the proshot how both Lin and Chris got teary eyed as they perform this song. I think Lin always cried at this part when he was with the show but to see Chris belt through his tears is amazing.
@@felicitymcdonald24I can’t watch him because it annoys the hell out of me so I have to watch Casper or the scene on the stage. Which is weird because I’m ALSO lip syncing to every rap. Maybe I can’t handle someone being as annoying as I am 😂
@@internetuser528 SO DO I!! I just watch Caspers reactions 😂 Saying that, when I show someone something I’m really excited by, I AM Mortius and so OTT. So maybe it’s just that I can’t stand watching someone just like me 😂
One Last Time is even more bittersweet knowing Washington only lived for another two years, and didn't get to enjoy his retirement like he should have.
I don't know if Mortius mentioned this and I missed it, or if Casper just caught on, but the speak singing in the second half of the song when Hamilton joins in is actually an excerpt from Washington's real-life farewell address. I've just always found it really neat that Lin was able to bring that in while still maintaining the musicality of the song to pay that homage to Washington.
the original farewell address was, of course, actually penned by Hamilton, although it was based on an address Washington had asked for from Madison 5 years earlier.
Mortius' reaction during this is sooo real. Americans have such conflicted feelings about this country and its founders until One Last Time comes on, then we're all crying in the club 😭
the cool part about the OLT performance for Obama is that afterwards Obama came up to Chris Jackson, shook his hand, and said "thank you for telling me how to say goodbye"
he lived another 2 1/2 years... he was technically in charge of the army during the undeclared "quasi-war" with France after this, although he delegated active leadership of that army to... Hamilton.
Yeah. The issue with it is that it is basically career suicide. Imagine you spend your whole life openly supporting Republicans and their actions and values, then suddenly you swap to hard core Democrat overnight. The Republicans will hate you, and the democrats won't trust you based on your old views. You won't gain any popularity with the new party and you can't go back to the old one. Also people who work in politics are usually quite old and their views are set in stone. Them swapping a core belief system their whole career and life is based on is a hell of a lot harder than a normal person who realizes they used to be wrong about the world when they were younger.
True. Both Kamala Harris and Trump could change parties tomorrow if they wanted to. They likely wouldn't. But they could without any legal repercussions. It would definitely cost them the election though.
@@DevlinBlake I do wonder what happens when an already elected president switches DURING Their presidency. Like if Biden were to suddenly turn into a Republican, what happens? Surely there isnt legal consequences to one guy swapping his belief system, but still he would be going against all his democrat voters wishes. Although when we think about it, politicians break what they promised the voters and go against what their voters want all the time, so who knows if this would even impact them.
Yup! It’s not PRESIDENT or anything, but my major city’s mayor who’s been a dem in office for forever just randomly announced last year he’s a republican now. 🙃 People are, as you might guess, not thrilled.
There is a video of LMM talking about putting this song together and how he was stuck transitioning after the "scripture" part...he was at a museum (which he spent a lot of time in during the writing) and saw the Washington Farewell Address and thought how could he ever write anything more appropriate. If I remember correctly, he had the inspiration of Hamilton starting the address (as the speechwriter) and transitioning to Washington. It brings me to tears every time.
I love how at the start of washington on your side, burr just emerges from the shadows and jefferson is like "WHERE TF DID YOU COME FROM.." Edit: i also wanna mention how Daveed ended up in the show- It literally went like "Hey, Lin is gonna be making a hip-hop/rap musical about alexander hamilton, you wanna be in it?" Daveed: are you gonna pay me? "Yes" Daveed: yes.
For my people who aren't familiar with American history. The only reason Washington stayed for a second term is because Jefferson begged him to because he wanted someone to hold back Hamilton from... You could guess. And once he resigned Washington didn't have a reason to stay. Oh also Washington was one of two presidents to not have a political party as president.
LOL, I just had a Casper moment. I was going to comment "Image being there live for Chris Jackson's final performance of this." and then Casper mentioned it before I finished typing.
my favorite part of any open arms reactions video is when mortius knows there's a twist coming up and he's watching for casper's reaction with wicked glee in his eyes as casper, predictably, is gagged. and mortius pauses and goes UH HUHHH. its the funniest thing ever.
I can’t back up exactly where I heard it, but I do remember hearing that Lin Manuel Miranda wrote ‘one last time’ with Chris Jackson in mind. He basically said that like if you know someone has that good of a voice you have to give them a chance to show it off.
I tried looking for this quote because I've heard it too and didn't have any luck. I did pull out my Hamilton: The Revolution book and reread the essay about George Washington and Christopher Jackson, and there is a quote from Lin that says, "Chris is so sure of his instrument and has this kind of moral authority onstage...He's just f**king majestic." LOL!
@@EclecticMagpie22 yes, let me quote from the same book, chapter xxiii: "[...] the new music was shaped by his friendship with Chris. "I know his voice really well - I know the sweet spot," says Lin. When he turned the Bibel passage into a lyric, he built the phrase "thier own vine and fig tree" on the intervals that Chris sings best - which, if you think about it, is pretty much what Hamilton did for Washington when he drafted the Farewell Address."
5:19 this part always makes me so grateful that we get to experience Lin Manuel Miranda’s lyricism. Jefferson says “fits of passion” then a couple lines later says “pits of fashion”. He switched the first letters and it flows beautifully!
I used to perform all the time at this one spot and whenever the host wanted a big reaction, she always had me perform one last time or as we called it "The Standing O Song" because it always resulted in a standing ovation.
"One Last Time" is my favorite song in the show, with "Dear Theodosia" a very close second. Chris Jackson's voice is just so ethereal and beautiful. I love the gentle but powerful music of it all
I love that in one of the deleted scenes for one last time, when Hamilton says whatever it is Jefferson started it, Jefferson just rushes in and says "he kicked me down the f****** stairs!"that is just so unreasonably hilarious to me
I remember visiting Mt. Vernon when I was younger and seeing the resting place of Washington and his wife. It was gated off, of course, but they always place a new wreath of flowers there for them. Sometimes, they even let two guests place the new wreath. I was lucky enough to be chosen and... as small a gesture as it was for a man and woman long dead, just standing there, between them, was a rather... powerful moment. Oviously, Id never met the man before, but knowing he had such a profound impact on the nation I call home, it made me emotional. Yes, he made mistakes, but that is what humans do. We make mistakes and keep on living and try to leave an impression. The world outlives us once we are gone and nobody wants to be forgotten. And he certainly wasn't. A founding father and our first President- everyone knows his name for one reason or another. Rambling aside, listening to One Last Time always brings me back to that moment, literally standing beside him, just an arms length away... its powerful. It reminds me that time is fleeting and I shouldn't focus on all the chaos and stress. I should just sit down and enjoy life, in this country built long before I was born. I'm only here for a moment, a blip on some vast timeline. Its a profound song with amazing vocals and a deeply moving message that draws me back to a profound moment. Always brings me to tears.
That's it. That's the whole reason for the play. This is the song that takes me right back to 8th grade US history and how romantic I found the formation of the government. This song awakens every bit of that child-like, innocent patriotism in me.
If we want to be technical, as I recall, Washington only ever did like one year longer than normal and that was just because the Presidency was established in 1789, an odd year, and so Washington got an extra year as President before the first technical "election" happened. It wasn't much of an election as Washington one unopposed both times, but by this point he was in the latter half of his second term as President. Washington actually tried to step down after his first term, but in a rare moment of unity, Jefferson, Madison, *and* Hamilton (and pretty much everyone else) insisted he run again. This time he couldn't be convinced otherwise, in part because he was sick and tired of the bickering of the emerging two party system and in part because he had promised his wife he'd retire over ten years ago, but America was in constant flux so frequently that he had to step up again and again to lead, since he was the one unifying figure to pretty much everyone. The precedent he set here would go unchallenged until Franklin Delano Roosevelt, all the way in the early to mid 1900s, where every president would refuse to run for a any further terms. Even Presidents who had the right to serve for more than 8 years due to being vice presidents who got sworn in mid-term due to a prior President's death tended to not want to go past that 8 year limit. The real tragedy is that Washington only lived a few more years after he stepped down, as he'd be dead by 1799 at 67.
I love your reactions, both together and separately, the truth is that you are one of the few creators who really analyze EVERYTHING, keep it up! Greetings from Perú 🇵🇪!
I'm gonna add a bit more to the 2 term limit talk. George Washington served 8 years officially as president, being inaugurated on April 30th, 1789, with John Adams as Vice President. George Washington would leave office on March 4th, 1797. There was this invisible two term limit that every president would follow. The only time I know that someone tried to do a third term yet failed was Theodore Roosevelt in the election of 1912, where he ran as a third party candidate and got shot, yet still did a 90 minute speech with a hole in him. He sadly lost the election to Woodrow Wilson, who would become one of the most hated presidents in American history. The only person to actually successfully get a third and fourth term was the fifth cousin of Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. FDR had a good first and second term, fixing the economy during the great depression. He ran for a third term in 1940 as he alone had the experience and skills to deal with the German threat at the time. He would lead the country into WWII. The 1944 election was a landslide victory as FDR urged voters to not "change horses in mid-stream." He would die on April 12th of 1945, not even a year into his 4th term. On February 27th, 1951, the 22nd amendment was ratified, which prohibits any man who was elected president be confined to the previously unspoken rule of two terms. From that point forward, no president could run for a third, fourth, or even a fifth term.
They also released a single of One Last Time, with Chris Jackson singing and Barack Obama speaking (and the text is actually Washington’s final address). I think it won a Grammy and it’s SO GOOD
I won the Hamilton lotto *on 4th of July weekend* back in like 2017. Front row seats. Wearing a Captain America shirt. With Chris Jackson singing "One Last Time" DIIIIIIRECTLY over me. I've never felt so patriotic in my entire life.
5:20 I adore LMM's flip of "fits of passion" and "pits of fashion" in these lines, literally the exact same words phonetically, but just switching the first consonant sounds around and being able to stay coherent, god bless his writing
I always felt that Jefferson’s line is too many syllables. What “fits” to my ear would be something like: “If WASHington AIN’T gonna LISten to DISciplined DISsidents [THIS is it] THIS Kid is OUT!” Oh, and by the way- - how ironic is it that Washington has to prompt Alex to “pick up a pen, start writing”, when it’s been established that normally Hamilton writes NONSTOP.
Mortius in the previous video: Hey, I'm so sorry if my energy tanks, I'm not feeling well. Mortius in this video: (screaming the F word and flailing like Kermit the frog) (lovingly teasing, here, I know how cold medicine is. Very glad there are no videos on the internet of me hopped up on benadryl, lol)
I swear I have to watch certain parts in this like three times - once to see the actual scene, once to see Casper's reaction, and once to see Mortius dramatically lip-syncing it 😂 (never change)
I heard a LMM interview that said this video was filmed on one of the last weeks that most of the original cast was there. So the ending of this song and The Battle of Yorktown you can see the actors getting emotional because they know the end is coming.
I melt every time I hear the harmony in the end of Washington on your side. The perfect sound of 3 voices(Im not sure how it is called in english, sorry, this is a thing in vocal...registor?)
Daveed Diggs was performing with a rap group/Freestyle Love Supreme when he met Miranda. Diggs had no prior musical theater experience. He was part of the initial Hamilton workshop - before the off-Broadway production.
Mortius’ sword and Casper’s flag are probably my favorite things to see cameos of. They’re just THERE within reach and they appear more often than you’d think.
Casper may have had it backwards, LMM was glad he could write something up to Daveed Diggs talent 😉! But he did have to work to talk Daveed into taking the role 😊
I so wish you would cover the Hamilton mixed tapes, President Obama’s version of One Last Time, is beautiful and moving. Especially considering Lin introduced this masterpiece mostly to the public in front of the Obama administration ❤
lawd, even as someone very much not American and not too aware of American history, One Last Time still hits me like a goddamn truck without fail and I think it's just repeatedly calling up all my complexes with art and artistry and legacy and Chris Jackson is also just So Good in this and Yeah. also thanks, OAR, i really Like what y'all do, it's cool! i love seeing people engage with media like this
Just rewatched all of the reactions thus far after watching Hamilton on stage for the first time (it was fantastic). Back to back it felt like Mortius and Casper were watching with me, and that was a wonderful feeling.
"Wait For It" will always be my favorite. So much so that my senior yearbook quote was literally, "I am the one thing in life I can control. I am inimitable, I am an original." I honestly try to live by Burr's approaches to life.
Some fun facts: the lyrics from "in reviewing the events of my administration".. all the way to 'labors and dangers' is actual words from GWashington's final speech. there are a couple versions of this. If you look up 'HamilDrop, One Last Time #44" it's Obama speaking Washington's words and the song is remixed. But the one that really gets me-There's an unofficial official podcast for Hamilton called 'The Hamilcast' that aired a modified version of One Last time that the music directors did where that middle section of the song is taken from Obama's last speech as president. it's breathtaking.
My favorite video of the cast singing One Last Time will always be the video of them singing it in the White House in 2016, when Obama was about to leave office because his two terms were over. It was just so impactful and meaningful, I cry every time, hearing this beautiful song and seeing Obama nodding along to it. Edit: Oh, Mortius mentioned that video. I love it.
And I don't know if Mortius knew or mentions it, but that speech part is part of Washgton's farewell address that Hamilton wrote...I think the first draft of, after discussing with Washington the themes he wanted to convey in his speech. Another quote from the farewell address that I love, but wasn't put in the musical, probably because only so much could be put in the song before it just got way too long is this: “Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism." It's a line I quote to...certain people on the internet.
4:32 - I can't believe Casper got it opposite. Trump was a Democrat for decades. Then in 2011 he switched parties as he considered running as an Independent. Then he switched to Republican in 2012 and began to attack Obama for being Black. In fact, on a political graph (left/right, up/down sociopolitical graph) Trump is actually further left than many candidates he has run against, particularly Hillary Clinton who was shockingly right leaning. (AKA political Left/Right = Communist/Fascist) He appeals to right-wing voters because on the social spectrum (up/down = Authoritarian to Libertarian) Trump is right near the top, literally a 9 out of 10, while Democrats tend to be centrists or Libertarian leaning on that spectrum. I'm sure I'm not describing this well, sorry. I was just reading something about that, so I geeked out for a moment there, haha! I really do NOT want to start something, I just wanted to point out that Casper could have predicted America's past politics but missed. I guess he's better at future predictions. Keep up those Nat 20s.
I love Obama as a person & miss him & that's beautiful that they returned for him. They performed the musical there before it became famous. So beautiful.
See, the bit where Jefferson mimes 'Sorry? No, please, just interrupt, why don't you?' at Burr's entrance is one of those instances where Hamilton tips into genius. It lets the characters speak. Also, since I saw Leslie Odom in Supernatural, my brain flipped that he was the son of Leslie UGGAMS, Broadway star 😄! It's only since I got LO's book, Failing Up, that I realised what a dang brain-blip that was.
Don't wanna spoil anything, but if they are this much of a mess with One Last Time....there's gonna be more tears. Hamilton is like one of two musicals that has made me sob my heart out. Basically out of the last 13 songs, 7 will likely make them and us cry.
I have a SFW Hamilton playlist which doesn’t have any of the tearjerkers. Thankfully my boss was the one who got me into hamilton so if he ever saw me with tears running down my face, I just had to mention the song title.
@@nicolegrubb For me, "It's Quiet Uptown" was the worst tear jerker. That and the two final songs. But I could not listen to that one in public. Though it's been a few years since I've listened to it so I don't know if it's kept its emotional potency.
@@Spectralyzed Actually, the two term Presidential term limit wasn’t made official until the 22nd constitutional amendment passed by Congress in 1947 & ratified in 1951. But Washington did establish the tradition for limiting power and peaceful transfer to successors. Washington’s example was honored by others until FDR was elected four times (he died before finishing his 4th term).
Guys, I can’t be the only one who is commenting this. This video WAS Washington’s last performance. That’s why there’s the standing ovation and why he is crying.
There is footage around if you dig if Chris Jackson’s one last time. The visit to the White House they also sang in front of the official portrait of Washington
I can't wait for him to experience the last song because God damn is it something that truly makes the story feel finished that's not normal for history based musicals❤❤
Just a heads up. Washington only served 2 terms. 8 years. Pretty sure they Franklin Roosevelt was the only one who served more than 2 terms and after that they wrote and ratified the amendment that you could only serve technically 10 years. If you were the vp and forced into action because of an assassination or another reason, and you only finished the last 2 years of your predecessors term you can still run for 2 more terms yourself. But before the presidential term amendment presidents give up the position after 2 terms due to precedent and not law

Damn, I am late to the premiere because, uh, I got stuck trying to sing Just a Man on a karaoke channel ^^' Lin didn't have to search much for Daveed Diggs, they and Christopher Jackson already knew each other and even were part of the same rap group, Freestyle Love Supreme, before Hamilton. So, I think Lin wrote those parts with them in mind already. By the way, I think that the movie version of One Last Time is a lot worse, vocally, than the studio recording or the Obama video, so I'm glad to hear you're going to look at that. And there's this moment there when the ensemble start singing their lines that... well, you'll see.
With regards to Jefferson and Madison following the money, I understood them saying that they assumed that Hamilton must have been using government funds for his own purposes. Legally speaking, I'm not sure why they would care what he was doing with his own money. Unless he was doing something illegal with that, I guess.

I love when casper gets so shocked that he just switches back to danish
Casper’s reaction is so telling that Mortius doesn’t curse at all and it’s glorious. Also I love how in the proshot how both Lin and Chris got teary eyed as they perform this song. I think Lin always cried at this part when he was with the show but to see Chris belt through his tears is amazing.
Especially with how hard it is to sing with good tone while crying for real (crying coats your vocal cords with phlem).
Average OAR reaction
Casper: 🧐🤔🎶😲
Mortius: 🗣️🎤🕺💃🤠
Mortius's dramatic lip-syncs are half the fun sometimes honestly
@@felicitymcdonald24I can’t watch him because it annoys the hell out of me so I have to watch Casper or the scene on the stage. Which is weird because I’m ALSO lip syncing to every rap. Maybe I can’t handle someone being as annoying as I am 😂
@@katielynch9740 I’m ngl I cover half the screen with my hand sometimes LMAO
@@internetuser528 SO DO I!! I just watch Caspers reactions 😂
Saying that, when I show someone something I’m really excited by, I AM Mortius and so OTT. So maybe it’s just that I can’t stand watching someone just like me 😂
One Last Time = One Good Cry. Chris Jackson is masterful! His voice is like butter ... or like a warm hug ... or a fluffy puppy.
The fact that LMM is using Washinton's actual farewell address in the song is fascinating.
the original farewell address was, of course, actually penned by Hamilton, although it was based on an address Washington had asked for from Madison 5 years earlier.
I love the version they recorded that has Obama reading some of Chris's lines.
NOT A SPOILER! But another reason this song sounds so sad is probably because Washington does actually die shortly after he left.
he lived another 2 1/2 years... he was technically in charge of the army during the undeclared "quasi-war" with France after this, although he delegated active leadership of that army to... Hamilton.
I do want to point out that it is in no way illegal to change political parties. The *social* backlash is one thing, but there's no laws barring that
@@DevlinBlake I’m pretty sure both have actually changed parties. I could be wrong about Kamala, but I know that Trump actually used to be a democrat.
The emotion in Jackson's voice came from this being his last show. He had already finished the show and had been invited back to do the filmed show.
I love how at the start of washington on your side, burr just emerges from the shadows and jefferson is like "WHERE TF DID YOU COME FROM.."
Edit: i also wanna mention how Daveed ended up in the show-
It literally went like
"Hey, Lin is gonna be making a hip-hop/rap musical about alexander hamilton, you wanna be in it?"
Daveed: are you gonna pay me?
"Yes"
Daveed: yes.
The only one to never have a political party during his presidency, as John Tyler got kicked out of his party five months into his first term.
@@BrandonVout thankyou for the clarification
Those Washington words were his real words, Lin is a great writer and it was a perfect decision to incorporate this history letter.
One last time has alwayd been my favorite song... The emotion in christopher jacksons voice and him and lin singing breaks my heart every time
The loss of that F-Bomb in Washington on Your Side is truly the greatest tragedy of Disneyfication. It was my favourite.
33:48 This wasn’t his last performance, he had already left the production by this point. It was, however, the last time he portrayed the character.
From that point forward, no president could run for a third, fourth, or even a fifth term.
caspers face at 13:12 is priceless
26:50 There is a cut song that has both Eliza and Washington sing it together! It's called "Let it go"
Loving the amount of danish phrases that Casper’s dropping in this😆
I always felt that Jefferson’s line is too many syllables.
What “fits” to my ear would be something like:
“If WASHington AIN’T gonna
LISten to DISciplined
DISsidents [THIS is it]
THIS Kid is OUT!”
Oh, and by the way-
- how ironic is it that Washington has to prompt Alex to “pick up a pen, start writing”, when it’s been established that normally Hamilton writes NONSTOP.
Mortius in the previous video: Hey, I'm so sorry if my energy tanks, I'm not feeling well.
Mortius in this video: (screaming the F word and flailing like Kermit the frog)
(lovingly teasing, here, I know how cold medicine is. Very glad there are no videos on the internet of me hopped up on benadryl, lol)
I swear I have to watch certain parts in this like three times - once to see the actual scene, once to see Casper's reaction, and once to see Mortius dramatically lip-syncing it 😂 (never change)
Another thing I love is that his final pose is reminiscent of King George’s. To show the parallels but also the stark differences is insane
So was King George.😂
Mortius I feel you so much. I always bawl my eyes out when listening to One Last Time and I'm not even American
I'm with Mortius. One Last Time and Wait For It are easily the top songs of the show. The rest are bangers but damn those two just hit your soul
One last time is one of my favorites! It's so underrated. ❤
Chris Jackson was in In the Heights and is a good friend of LMM. Lin wrote this song to take advantage of Chris Jackson's vocal talents.
I heard a LMM interview that said this video was filmed on one of the last weeks that most of the original cast was there. So the ending of this song and The Battle of Yorktown you can see the actors getting emotional because they know the end is coming.
One not-so-fun fact - Washington only lived for another 2 1/2 years after leaving office. He never really got to enjoy his retirement.
I melt every time I hear the harmony in the end of Washington on your side. The perfect sound of 3 voices(Im not sure how it is called in english, sorry, this is a thing in vocal...registor?)
I didn't even know the second full F-Bomb was in that song until Casper apparently predicted it lol
Washington on your side is so slept on. it's one of my favorites. And also, Chris Jackson is my musical crush. He's so good
I love the way they integrated parts of Washington's actual declaration into this song. That is impossible to do.
Love y’all’s new pfp! It’s so good and embodies your energy perfectly!
Lin Manuel-Miranda actually wrote Jefferson and Lafayette’s lines with Daveed Dodgson mind
These songs are amazing! I always get goosebumps with Christopher Jackson singing "One Last Time" ❤
Doing the yoinky spoinky? 😂 That made me laugh so hard.
"Yee-Haw, Texas" ah yes, apparently the two things about America Casper knows
MORTIUS! Your delivery was AWESOME!!! (On the f-bomb)
lawd, even as someone very much not American and not too aware of American history, One Last Time still hits me like a goddamn truck without fail and I think it's just repeatedly calling up all my complexes with art and artistry and legacy and Chris Jackson is also just So Good in this and Yeah. also thanks, OAR, i really Like what y'all do, it's cool! i love seeing people engage with media like this
Just rewatched all of the reactions thus far after watching Hamilton on stage for the first time (it was fantastic). Back to back it felt like Mortius and Casper were watching with me, and that was a wonderful feeling.
Mortius, have you seen the Hamilton Drunk History Episode with Lin-Manuel Miranda? It's so fun to watch as a fan of the musical.
Amazing episode 100%
Oh this goin be good! Can't wait!!!
(AKA political Left/Right = Communist/Fascist)
He appeals to right-wing voters because on the social spectrum (up/down = Authoritarian to Libertarian) Trump is right near the top, literally a 9 out of 10, while Democrats tend to be centrists or Libertarian leaning on that spectrum.
So excited to have caught this before it comes out can’t wait to watch!
There is a beautiful Video of the cast performing the song for Obamas Farewell Ceremony. Not a dry f@cking eye in the house.
Mortius realizing suddenly that he’s crying *way too hard* is the most real thing he’s ever done
I believe Washington served 2 terms (8 years) as President.
He did, yeah- he was the reason that became the maximum
@@Spectralyzed Actually, the two term Presidential term limit wasn’t made official until the 22nd constitutional amendment passed by Congress in 1947 & ratified in 1951. But Washington did establish the tradition for limiting power and peaceful transfer to successors. Washington’s example was honored by others until FDR was elected four times (he died before finishing his 4th term).
Casper: jokes about making a prediction
Mortius: Oh man, I thought you were going to make an actual prediction.
Casper: an actual prediction, you say?
im SO excited to hear Caspers input for these songs!!
Hello from Texas
Thayne Jasperson, AKA Samuel Seabury *_IS_* still performing on Broadway. I think he's the only original cast member remaining. I could be wrong. It's genuinely amazing that he's still presenting "Free Thoughts on the Proceedings of the Continental Congress" all these years later. 😂
When Mortius asked for a real Nat 20, I genuinely guessed he was gonna predict the F-bomb. That's amazing and hilarious.
'Cause u were talking about imagining beeing "One Last Time" beeing sung one last time: Obviously it was not sung by Christopher Jackson but as a German watching I need to address one fact about the German production of Hamilton:
In the last show (like not the actors but the productions) during One Last Time most of the audience turned on flashlights.
So it was extra special
talking hamilton and Obama, Leslie Odom -(Burr) singing "Seriously" by Sara Bareilles is really powerfull. Only seen it here on TH-cam tho, not even on spotify.
Damn, I am late to the premiere because, uh, I got stuck trying to sing Just a Man on a karaoke channel ^^'
Lin didn't have to search much for Daveed Diggs, they and Christopher Jackson already knew each other and even were part of the same rap group, Freestyle Love Supreme, before Hamilton.
3:01 STOP MOGGING ME CASPER 😭
With regards to Jefferson and Madison following the money, I understood them saying that they assumed that Hamilton must have been using government funds for his own purposes. Legally speaking, I'm not sure why they would care what he was doing with his own money. Unless he was doing something illegal with that, I guess.
Fun fact: I don’t know if anyone mentioned this, but Lin wrote the George Washington songs specifically with Chris Jackson in mind.
They still teach Washington’s Farewell address in speech and rhetoric classes.
"As far as the people are concerned, *_you have to serve."_* I just imagine them trying to force Washington to stay in office. 😂
