  • The new Kia Soul might still look the same but the car is indeed completely new: growing a bit larger, getting more refined, and becoming more sophisticated. The test car reviewed here is painted Alien Green. Up front the new tiger nose upper grille insert is just for show but it does have the new design elements common with other siblings from Kia. The top-of-the-line ! (Exclaim) model comes with LED headlights and taillights, power folding mirrors, and UVO eServices. The 18-inch aluminum wheels do a great job of filling out the swollen fenders.
    Learn More About the 2014 Kia Soul
    www.autobytel.com/kia/soul/201...
    Under the hood of the base mode lives a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 130 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. But the model tested here has a 164 horsepower 2.0 liter engine. Transmission choices are either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Kia is offering an Idle Stop-and-Go system which is akin to a start/stop system. This helps raise MPG levels to 24 MPG in the City and 31 MPG on the highway.
    As part of the redesign for 2014, Kia has made the interior of the Soul larger. There is 18 ft of cargo room in the hatch and that figure grows to 45 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats folded down. The passengers though will have plenty of room in both the back and front seats. The model tested here was equipped with "The Whole Shabang Package" which includes a 10-way adjustable driver seat, heated seats, push button start and more.
    The Kia Soul first debuted in 2008 and now for 2014 we have a redesigned second generation car to test. But what is the Soul? It this automobile a car, or a van, or a crossover? One thing is for certain, it's a very unique vehicle indeed. The 2014 Kia Soul has a base price of $14,700.

    I drive a 2016 soul base model 1.6L with the automatic and a few other options. I use it as a taxi daily and my customers love it. No complaints about the comfort and the fuel efficiency is a bit lacking, but it is all around a great car! I get lots of compliments on the looks, and it really is a joy to drive. I agree that a turbo would make it much more fun! 21,000 miles in 4 months, and zero complaints from me.

    not good for a review, all the negatives about the car are personal reasons or reasons that no one wants to hear about. one of the worst review from this channel.

    I have had it with this guy. Chris, do a review. Your sarcasm is not necessary and lacks professionalism. You made an airport run where you were going to pick up more than one person with luggage, and you didn't plan ahead to take a different vehicle? The Soul is really a two person car, with room for two more for lunch runs or other quick jaunts, with room for groceries in the back. Review the car for its intended purpose, not for something it isn't designed for.

    • @Dklew9418
      @Dklew9418 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I agree. Airport run, if he knew there was gonna be luggage why even take the soul? You know it's not meant to carry a bunch of suitcases and stuff. As well, plan ahead if you are going to take the soul and take out the cargo cover and stuff to maximize space instead of just sitting there complaining about how bad the cargo area is. It really is just meant for a small family car that helps carry groceries and get you from A to B.

      Bob Keilitz Agreed. My 2015 Kia Soul Exclaim has actually quite a bit of room and I have no problem taking friends and their stuff anywhere.

      Exactly, this is not a family car. For a family, try the Rondo. This car is for one or two people who are not hauling tons of gear all the time.

    The major fail on this is the Fuel Economy. You can lose that cargo tray and cut a sheet of plywood and lay the carpet cover on top to get some depth in the cargo area. I would have dumped the cargo tray and put in a multi position parcel shelf like the PT Cruiser had. The PT rocked for Costco runs.

    getting sick of all these car companies trying to make the windows smaller. i have the Toyota Scion XB and i'm spoiled with the amount of space in the car and the views I have. i want to be able to see clearly all around me, so far nothing has windows as such as the Scion XB..which makes me sad :(

      faheemthedream2007 Hey, I have a 2015 Kia Soul Exclaim and the view is pretty much flawless. As with any car, the side pillars by my head create a blindspot but that's what mirrors are for, haha. The C Pillar is a little large but again, not too much of an issue.

    Why are cars taking out spare tires?

    • @MediKombi
      @MediKombi 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Epic Jameson Most automakers take out the spare tire (in smaller cars atleast) to save weight in an effort to boost fuel efficiency. I'd personally rather have a spare and my MPG drop 1. Hope this helps!

      @prestonweitersjr.9460 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Official_Spidey 8/17/15, Hello again. On the subject of spares, that's a sore point. Those doughnut spares are a cheap shortcut; on my Ford as in the Caddy I got rid of, I had to purchase a full-size wheel ($1100). The advantage is you only have to fix the flat & not have to switch the doughnut; there are fewer svc stations available especially @ night; the doughnut is often only limited speed/use. Many cars, as does mine, have a shallow well w/a panel just large enough for the narrow spare. If you want to fit a full-size wheel in that spot you have only to remove that top panel. One last thing: bigger is safer/better.

    • @MediKombi
      @MediKombi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preston Weiters Jr. No you make a good point, I'm getting an extra full sized tire for my car. It fits in the wheel well. Thanks for replying :)

    3/29/14, There's only but so much you can do w/these tin trap minicars; I had plenty of them as commuter cars until I wised up & got a real car. I've got my 12 y/o 8cyl. Caddy I bought new; my next car will be the Chrysler 300srt8, 470HP, rear drive.....VROOOM! ^^^^8/29/15, Well......after a little more research I got the 2015 Ford Taurus LTD AWD (6cyl., 288HP; better choice, less $$$).

    • @MediKombi
      @MediKombi 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preston Weiters Jr. Lol why do you call it a "tin trap minicar?" I think it's a great car. Of course it's your own personal opinion haha but I disagree :) LOVE my Kia Soul Exclaim!

    • @prestonweitersjr.9460
      @prestonweitersjr.9460 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      8/17/15, Spidey, nice to hear from you. Well, here goes: It's a kid's car; my 18 y/o cuz' parents bought one for her. They're mainly commuter cars; I had 2 Hondas, a Datsun, VW, Volvo; I forgot what else. Don't get hit, you can't fit anything in them---try going to Lowe's/Hm Depot; parts & svc will cost as much or more than a 'real car.' Yeah you get 40mi/gal, not much else. If you like that matchbox car, great. After 13 yrs the Caddy bit the dust so I narrowed my choice down b/w Chrysler & Ford. I got the Ford Taurus LTD AWD. So far, so good.

    • @MediKombi
      @MediKombi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preston Weiters Jr. I can see why you would say that. No disagreeing or trying to be a smart ass or anything. Yes, it is aimed towards the younger generations / older people but that works fine for me as I am 17. Hope you are enjoying your Ford. Personally I don't like chevrolet or gmc. I'd go with Ford or nothing. Not a die hard ford guy or anything but I just don't like the quality of some of the other American-made cars. Cadillac, I like. Ford, yeah. Chevy has come a long way but I still wouldn't buy one of their products...yet.

    I thought the review was fine. However, the photography and lighting poor. Several times he was referring to the interior and you couldn't even see inside the car. If you left the cargo cover at home and stacked the lugguge to the ceiling you could probably get it all in. Granted, seeing out the back might have been difficult.
