What a lovely video of our city's downtown and special districts! It's not a BIG city, it's just the right size for me. I feel safe here in my working class, diverse, SW neighborhood, this being my home for just over 12 years. I've lived in the city since 2008. Thank you for making this. I'll definitely share it!

@@austinrushford2727 i have to agree with you and i live here it has changed so much one ways becoming 2 ways and 4 ways becoming 2 ways just for bicyclist i understand that they need places to ride but they have trails and if cars would watch out for them then we wouldnt need all the roads to have special lanes and the construction is just way to much that you really cant get anywhere in this town with out having to find another way.

I recognize all of those places as I lived in Cedar Rapids (The Slew) for 20 years. I've got so many stories from that strange town and most of those individual areas in your video. It feels weird to visit now as it's a lot more laid back and mellow than where I currently live. I kind of miss that. I'm happy to have left, though.
Trying to narrow down potential cities I'd consider a transfer to just for fun. Family thinks I'm crazy for considering places in the upper Midwest since it's so damned cold for almost half the year. I'd need to visit in the summer for fun and winter for a few days to see if I could really deal w it + the whole snow shoveling thing. Although I like the flamethrower method I've seen.
A lot is very much the same, and a lot has changed. I graduated from Kennedy HS in 1979 and left that town, never to return but to visit the family on special occasion. The place looks good but can't say that I miss it all that much as my life went in a different direction.

After their massive windstorm just months ago, it's not such a nice looking city now. It's in shambles. Pray for CR. It will take generations for it to recover their massive tree canopy that was ripped away by winds over 110+ mph.
RDC - did it change 2nd Ave much? My fave street CR because of the canopy and way back it was a great street paved entirely of brick. Loved the rumble under the tires.

After a few years, noone will remember, but so many will either just be starting to really bounce back if they're lucky bc many never will if they even lived. Then the people on the east coast. Jeez the flooding has been epic, and I don't even use that word. Even without Alaska and Hawaii, America prob has the most extreme summer highs and winter lows given the large land mass and with that crazy storms that mean deadly tornadoes, floods, and most famously hurricaines, and the whole way the wind force vortex space time continuum warp a meteorologist or wiki could explain better n u prob know anyways. Thanks for highlighting parts of Cedar Rapids for me. I’d like to check out the Czech neighborhood sometime as my family is Czech and they are from that area. You should check out Dubuque some time. I thought it was a cool old style city.
CR does not come across as a very engaging community. Bland downtown without pubs and restaurants and people getting together. Would never consider moving to this particular area of Iowa.
Saw the movie "Cleopatra" at TCR, then it was the Iowa Theater. CR and Paris, France I think are only two cities with municipal buildings on island in center of river. Took my first drivers test there. Don't recognize downtown anymore. Miss the smell of Quaker Oats.
You really make Cedar Rapids look good, It's not a pretty city. I moved here 5 years ago. I'd recommend it to anyone. I don't have to live in the downtown I choose to. I walk around all I want at night. There are no dark alleys but if they were I'd walk down them, here.
The downtown itself is nice. It's surrounded on two sides by heavy industry and a third side by the worst neighborhoods in town. Some areas never completely recovered from the 2008 flood let alone the 2020 derecho. But many other areas are coming back fast. The nicest parts of town are the far east and northeast sides. Anything west of the river or immediately east of the Saint Luke's hospital and your on your own unless you go to newer areas past edgewood road.

It is. Lived there for 20 years. Rent where I live now is ridiculous. CR is a pretty basic small city though. Winters there are so depressing.
