I bought one of these from a DIYer several years ago, but came to TH-cam to see what else I could do to make it more stable. So, maybe not, but WHY it never crossed my mind to install a hook or something to keep it from coming out beyond the fridge and cabinet….I have no excuse! Thank you so much for that invaluable and very necessary safety feature. It’ll make all the difference in my comfort level of using it now.

I live in an apartment as well in NYC. I made one years ago for my the space between my tub and bathroom sink. Holds so much. I love it.

Thank you for this. I'm going to have a gap between my vanity & the wall in the bathroom & I wanted something to fill the space. I was looking at making it like a drawer, but trying to find the right slides was proving a major pita. I think this would be a much better option & would be significantly easier to build. The hooks as stops to keep it from pulling all the way out are a great idea!
Using the speed square for aligning the screws was also a cool trick.
This is going to make my bathroom project much easier.

Just what I was looking for! Really appreciated the details of measurements & mistakes. Only concern I would note is if your storing right next to an oven or stove, be mindful of storing items like flour, oils, or some dry goods that can be compromised by the heat penetration within that space.

I like this very easy to follow tutorial for making your own version of the incredibly over priced versions they sell online. Since this is made of wood not plastic, it would be much sturdier.
Very nice and easy it seems. I wish I could take some classes on how to use the equipment to build things.
Depends on where you live. Home Depot has regular classes. If you want something not list, ask the Store Manager. He will either set up a class or ask an employee to instruct you.

I know what you mean about the mistakes.....these tv shows and things don't show them and try to make it look easy and smooth then when we try it and a mistake happens there is noone to ask or a reference for us to go by to correct it.....I love people who leave their mistakes in and how they fix them....

Keep in mind those plastic wheels could damage the floor so you might want to go with the kind that are non-marking. Basically similar to rollerblade wheel material. I like the idea of mostly hiding the wheels. I wonder if you can put a door weatherguard on the bottom that will still allow it to move but block things like mice from getting under. Use of the speed square is a good idea. I will have to make something like this for my guest bathroom. I have a freestanding lavatory on a small vanity that I plan t bump over away from the wall a few inches to avoid elbow banging into walls when washing hands/using the sink.

Can I incorporate this idea to make a pullout shoe rack ? I have and odd space near my wardrobe that is empty and I want to utilize it and I want to be able to see all my shoes so I don't forget what I have.
