I feel demis must be the most frustrated with that, because when someone tells them the " aw,you just haven't found the right person" , they can't entirely rebate it, cause it is technically true.
My Mum *cried* and said she felt like I had been lying to her because I had only dated guys... I've still only dated guys... But I'm still pan... This is why I don't talk about my sexuality to anyone and just let people assume I'm straight 🤷♀️

Reminds me of a comedian I saw. "I'm not gay, but I'm very pro gay. And it's because of my brother. He's never said anything to us, he never came out, but I'm pretty sure he's gay. And it took me longer than it should have to figure that out. He's lived with the same guy in the same apartment for 5 years. It's a two bedroom apartment, one bedroom is an office. And for like 3 years I was like 'Maybe Dan sleeps on the couch?'"
Sometimes in my sixth grade history class if we found a passage in a biography where someone was described as having "a good friend/being lifelong friends" we would yell out "gay erasure" and our teacher turned it into a competition of getting candy for each "lifelong friend" we could find. 10/10 would recommend
The "People should stop erasing gay people" VS "We should normalise friends showing affection" resonates so much to me. I'm gay and my best friend is a straight guy and we're very affectionate to each other. That confuses people on so many levels (including my boyfriends, his girlfriends, people we're hitting on when we're together...)
Yeah, society has a big problem of sexualizing almost all forms of affection which is why it has taken me until 27 to find out i'm ace. Because my mind went " ok i like this guy( romantically) and i like hugs, cuddles , caresses, and i want that from him...and everyone seems to think that has to lead to sex...so maybe that is sexual attraction?"but when i actualy have engaged into sex( i am generally neutral to it)7 it was like.. " meh" you know , like " yeah, this tv show is entertaining but i would not be up for a marathon or to watch daily( maybe monthly at much)". So i was super confused as to why i liked and craved what " leads to sex" but not so much the act in itself. And then after getting more informed in the ace spectrum and finding about aesthetic and sensorial attractions, realizing where i fit in the aces. I realized to that really i never craved sexual contact, is just that i craved non sexual physical affection...but any kind of physical afffection is so sexualized that i too, thought it was sexual. Had a friend who also thought he was hetero for a while because he liked to be very affectionate with female friends and found shakira to be pretty, spoiler, he is gay. Seriously, let's normalize and stop sexualizing all forms of physical affection , it confuses people.
@@nessyness5447 I think I may've been mistaking platonic feelings towards friends for either romantic or sexual attraction, largely due to the fact that I was very much in denial of the possibility I could be aroace (I pretty much knew that I had to be one and just didn't know which) and laos feeling like I couldn' be ace because I'd had wet dreams before. I'm honestly still unsure because I don't know if what i felt was platonic or not because I don' know what attraction feels like. If not, I'm either greyromantic or greysexual. Also, people really need to realize that there are tons of different kinds of attraction, and those kinds of attractions then get grouped up into subcategories like romantic, sexual, platonic, or aesthetic attraction.

5:35 Me with the entire concept of non-canon gay shipping. On one hand, representation matters, and you should totally headcanon any representation you want to. On the other hand, we need more representation of healthy, affectionate friendships, especially between two men, that isn't immediately labeled as gay.
right. I sometimes think misogyny affects the way society often views sexuality. if two guys even get 'too close' in some instances, that's often labeled as 'gay' but if two girls literally fuck people think 'oh damn they're good friends'. it's why I think male bisexuals often get labeled as "gay but saying they're bi" while bi women are called "experimenting" and I'm sure this also plays somehow into the lives of bi nonbinary people as well. through the gaze of society, everything has to revolve around men, apparently, is what I'm saying.

Before you read this, I just want to say, yes I am a trans girl. My parents check my youtube account frequently, so I can't show it on here or else they'll see. I can only watch this because I removed it from my watch history. They do know I'm trans, and they are super transphobic. Anyway, now to the point of this reply. One day, my parents gave me an EXTREMELY transphobic talk. I don't want to get into what they said, because none of you would want to hear it. After the talk, I was cracking my knuckles. Then my mom came in and she literally said "Cracking your knuckles is a manly thing to do." That was so infuriating to hear. Girls can crack their knuckles, too! She only said that as an attempt to prove why she thinks I'm a boy! After that, I was so freaking mad. It was around lunchtime, so I had to eat despite how angry I was. I got out a leftover pizza box. While I was doing that I was moving very quick and hard, to show how I was feeling. My mom said, "Oh, totally feminine movements there!" Sure those weren't feminine movements, but they weren't masculine either. They were angry movements. I was moving just how anyone who was angry would. I once had it the other way around. When I was 14, me and my best friend would hold hands, run through the halls of the school together and joke about being gay and being married. One time, during a weekend, this “popular” girl from our school made up a rumour about us being lesbians and girlfriends. On the next Monday we got asked by (we counted it) 32 people if we were in a relationship! (This was a lot, because our school had only 300 people on it or so) every time they asked it, also during the rest of the week, we felt very uncomfortable and (of course) said that we were just friends. They didn’t believe us and apparently they were all a bunch of homophobes, because they started to bully us and call us the f-slur for the rest of the year. :( Now, 4 years later, I came to the conclusion that I am bi. I was never in love with my friend, but still I think about that year every now and then and it still hurts. :(
Same. In high school, I pretended to be heterosexual not to get ✨hate-crimed✨ but I was still hate-crimed!!!!!!!!!!!! A guy pointed a gun at me and threatened to kill me because I was gay. Bunch of girls wrote a fake love letter where some mysterious guy wanted to date me (I knew it was 100% BS, the only thing that shocked me were the number of ppl involved). Cishet ppl would also publicly ask me if I were gay and then make homophobic jokes about me behind my back, even though I said no.
To you, your friend, and the person who replied to you, I’m very sorry that happened; none of you deserved it at all. I hope for the best, including a brighter and more fair present and future 🥺
Similar experience. And the homophobes really got to my best friend, who is a lovely person but would end up crying in the toilets. We were patient and reasonable for a few weeks, but they didn't give up hounding us, especially her. My tether ran out at that point, and the bullying stopped the moment I slammed the ringleader up against a wall during break, in front of her cronies, and asked her in all seriousness which hospital she'd like to visit... I still smile remembering the terror on that little shit's face. 😈 Some people only learn respect the hard way. Yeah, people point out that people always assume a guy and a girl are a couple whenever they’re shown together in real life or fiction. But people in the community are guilty of this as well. I’ve seen many instances where gays will claim two people of the same sex are together through a photograph, or in history, or in fiction because of hand holding, living together, declarations of love, etc. they need to keep in mind that some people’s extent of platonic affection may cross with your definition of romantic affection. All of these things can be considered platonic, even love. I love my best friend, there’s nothing romantic about it. I know they’re desperate for representation, it makes sense, but being caught making things up to prove a point is not going to help our cause.

Thanks jammi, for through that time be one of the few reliable sources that gave me the education of transitioning medically without pressure I already had enough of so early into understanding myself. It's helped prevent a lot of dysphoria for myself and gave such a safe space to learn and feel understood in our community that was even against itself!
This reminds me of my teenage years. My best friends mom thought we were a couple, because I would often sleep over. She would have been supportive, but we really were just friends. Some 10+ years later I finally realised and accepted that I am bi. It's fun to think the mom somehow knew before I did :D.
The other day, I was in the elevator at mine and my girlfriend’s new apartment and introduced myself to a new neighbor saying “my partner and I just moved in!” She then asked, “oh, so you work from home?” ... does she think I’m living with like... my law partner? And working from an apartment building ... where we live... together ... as coworkers???
rorolilred it’s unlikely because we were not talking about work or covid at all. Just mentioned my partner with she/her pronouns and saw her face do the confused thing 😂

My favorite one is where Apollo and Hyacinthus were best friends. Pfffft! Such great friends that when the fair man was struck by a discuss, Apollo put every ounce of his power to heal him. When that did not work, Apollo pleaded with his father Zeus to turn him mortal so he may die with Hyacinthus. Weren't they just the greatest of friends?

alexander hamilton, in a letter to john laurens: "Cold in my professions, warm in my friendships, I wish, my Dear Laurens, it might be in my power, by action rather than words to convince you that I love you. I shall only tell you that 'til you bade us Adieu, I hardly knew the value you had taught my heart to set upon you. Indeed, my friend, it was not well done. You know the opinion I entertain of mankind, and how much it is my desire to preserve myself free from particular attachments, and to keep my happiness independent of the caprice of others. You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility to steal into my affections without my consent. But as you have done it,and as we are generally indulgent to those we love, I shall not scruple to pardon the fraud you have committed, on condition that for my sake, if not for your own, you will always continue to merit the partiality, which you have artfully instilled into me." homophobic historians: ah yes what a nice heterosexual friendship
Well to be honest, guys back then we’re far more in touch with their feminine side. I agree that historians shouldn’t ignore that,. But since we most likely will never know they should say that’s it’s within reason to believe that Alexander Hamilton was bisexual. But since there’s no real proof we just make our own judgments about it. I believe him to be bisexual (not that it really matters one way or the other who the fuck cares about some historic figure 200 years ago) but there’s no definitive proof that he is or isn’t, and as I’ve already said, men back then we’re far more in touch with their feminine side and treated their friends like they actually loved them (instead of the way we do things now were we kind of just rag on each other). Again this conversation doesn’t really matter, so have a nice day.
@@TsdsxSansTSSunStone it does matter because if we hide all the homosexual people in history children will grow up thinking that there are no importand homosexual people and some might thing they themselves cant succeed because no other bi person has ever succeeded in history
For context: I am aro, but spent most of life thinking I was straight So, when I was younger, I was very close friends with this boy. At this time, I was not on the internet, and I didn’t know anything about lgbtq+. I also had been exposed to a lot of media that had all relationships between a boy and a girl be romantic. So, when I became very close friends with this boy, I thought I had to have a crush on him, because that was what all my favorite cartoons showed. Later on down the road, when I started questioning my sexuality, this moment was the strongest bit that made me think I was straight. Of course, I eventually realized that there was nothing romantic between us, and if it was, then it was one sided, because I never thought of him as more than a friend
As a bisexual I wish people would stop erasing bisexuals. Whenever someone were in a straight relationships and then are in a gay relationship people assume that they are gay which is not always true and I see this happening a lot and it kinda is really rude. No hate though and sorry if I made spelling mistakes English isn't my first language ♥️
It's so strange when this happens in conversation, I never know how to react. When I moved into uni halls, I had roommates who knew that I had a bf at the time. One time we were talking about exes and I casually mentioned "oh my ex girlfriend..' They looked so puzzled and one of them asked "why did you fall out?" Of course then I was confused like "what do you mean?" He said "I mean why are you not friends any more??" He really thought it was my EX friend who was a girl... you know bc bi ppl don't exist lmao
@@Meerkat628 yeah I know what you mean, this was in a conversation all about ex partners tho. We were talking about insane things our ex partners had done and I said something along the lines of “yeah one time my ex girlfriend did something similar”. Also, I feel like where I’m from (UK) saying girlfriend for your friends isn’t that much of a thing. They weren’t jerks but they acted uncomfortable afterwards and stopped the conversation. I’m not saying they had any issues with same-sex couples but they were really awkward about it when I brought it up. I don’t hold that one time against them tho! They weren’t bad guys I just wish they handled it a bit better because I was finally coming to terms with being ‘out’ openly and this was one of the first convos where I’d mentioned it casually. I was hoping they’d just accept it like the other stories everyone was telling and not think too much about what it means

Also, people really need to realize that there are tons of different kinds of attraction, and those kinds of attractions then get grouped up into subcategories like romantic, sexual, platonic, or aesthetic attraction.

Then my mom came in and she literally said "Cracking your knuckles is a manly thing to do."
That was so infuriating to hear.
My mom said, "Oh, totally feminine movements there!"
Sure those weren't feminine movements, but they weren't masculine either. They were angry movements. I was moving just how anyone who was angry would.
They look for every tiny reason they can to try to be transphobic. I can't even crack my knuckles without them being transphobic! I hate it here.
(Edit: Just to clarify, my pronouns are she/her.)
I am a 13yo trans male and When I came out to my family most of them all excepted me and even my 5yo cousin has learned that I am a boy now and he calls me by my name and pronouns.

My extended family refuses to acknowledge our aunt that brings her best friend and roommate to all the family functions are a lesbian couple
One of my stepsiblings is such good friends with a lesbian couple that her children call them Aunt Such & Such and Aunt So & So (I'm not posting actual ames here). My stepsister and her husband tell the kids their (honorary) aunts are roommates because the children are "too young to understand." :/
El hopefully they will eventually tell them at least. I don’t agree that they are too young but at least the parents are not in denial.
It’s honestly ridiculous to be at a family function with all adults and have people be so dense. I casually mentioned something about them being a couple to one family member and they got all huffy and said I was being rude and just because they have been roommates for 20+ years doesn’t mean anything. They have a house full of cats and one has a partially shaved head of colorful hair for crying out loud (not saying straight people can’t do those things) but it’s literally like every single stereotype and yet nobody bats an eye.

Now, 4 years later, I came to the conclusion that I am bi.

I like that sub, but it's far from perfect, it's often guilty of bisexual and asexual erasure, and half the posts concerning erasure turn out not to be erasure. Like, in several countries it's normal for friends to hold hands in public, and there's atleast 3 posts a week of photos of friends from those countries holding hands. The worst case I remember, was a photo of a bride and her bridesmaid (who turned out to be her sister) being posted on there, and got a tone of upvotes until people pointed out that it wasn't erasure since they weren't a couple and they were related.
It is also guilty of sexualising LITERAL CHILDREN WHO LIVED DURING A GENOCIDE, when there is infinitely better representation *anywhere else* .

@@amadeobordiga8464 Anne Frank was 15, and that excerpt is only nsfw in that it non-explicitly talks about Anne's attraction to other women. All it says is that she wanted to kiss her friend, that she thinks women are beautiful, and that she wanted to 'feel' her friend. That's as non-sexual a way to address a teenager's exploration of her sexual orientation as it gets. Such passages wouldn't be out of place in any given novel about growing up/puberty. In addition, it's the diary of a teenage girl who has historical significance and those passages were censored out for a very long time.
You clearly don't understand what sexualizing a minor actually means.

Later on down the road, when I started questioning my sexuality, this moment was the strongest bit that made me think I was straight. Of course, I eventually realized that there was nothing romantic between us, and if it was, then it was one sided, because I never thought of him as more than a friend
4:21 The way you said "I would bet a little bit of money" was very cute
As a bisexual I wish people would stop erasing bisexuals. Whenever someone were in a straight relationships and then are in a gay relationship people assume that they are gay which is not always true and I see this happening a lot and it kinda is really rude. No hate though and sorry if I made spelling mistakes English isn't my first language ♥️
as a fellow bisexual i agree!!!!
My dad was all " you can wear RaInBowS" and I'm like : SoBs in blue purple and pink
Yeah like someone could be with a guy but the second she is in a lesbian passing relonship it'd all she is a lesbian icon like girl she is a bicon
Bisexual: dates opposite gender, still Bisexual
Bisexual: dates same sex , still Bisexual
You're valid ❤❤❤
People(not just straight people) saying they'll turn us to their respective sexualities after one "day" with them is also annoying as shit
It's so strange when this happens in conversation, I never know how to react.
When I moved into uni halls, I had roommates who knew that I had a bf at the time. One time we were talking about exes and I casually mentioned "oh my ex girlfriend..'
They looked so puzzled and one of them asked "why did you fall out?"
Of course then I was confused like "what do you mean?"
He said "I mean why are you not friends any more??"
He really thought it was my EX friend who was a girl... you know bc bi ppl don't exist lmao
"did you know that LGBT+ people don't exist?"
me: slowly fades out of existence
This one's about schools teaching LGBT+ history, in my high school when we were talking about Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine (French poets) who were a couple, my teacher described their relationship as an "excentric friendship"
"You two look like such lovely roommates" is obviously satirising this exact phenomenon.
.............and they were roommates
Yeah and the "Seriously, tho you both look wonderful and..." Makes is REALLY obvious.
Oh my god they were roommates
Yeah its satire but still pretty funny lol
Oh my God they were rooOOMmates
“Some of us are gay karen” has been a long term joke with my friends (were all gay)
Don't worry! I get it ima lesbian Karen :)
Just some Karen with internet access yes! You have ascended!
@@LittleIcarus the good karen
i couldn't quite tell what you said in your intro so my brain's autofill worked its magic and I heard "hey spuds"
i was ready to accept that you were addressing us all as potatoes
