As a young soldier I was in love with Melanie and loved her voice and songs. I was 17, and in my first posting as a regular soldier, we had a radio in the workplace that was on 24/7. One afternoon, they played Ruby Tuesday and I was enthralled. So much so that I stood in front of th radio and refused a direct order to switch it off. The Staff Sergeant was a total and utter oxygen thief. He wanted to listen to horse racing results. I got to listen to Melanie though. But I also got shit on from a great height. Extra duties for the rest of the month. I'm 72 now. It's funny how music can be so vividly remembered. Rip lovely lady.

I fell in love with melanie at Woodstock. I am heartbroken to learn of her passing. Her voice was unique!!! She was in no way up herself. I’m a nobody yet she took time to acknowledge my comments and actually sent me a ❤. I am so happy that we have all this footage of her to keep her close. I’m still sad!!

A year later Melanie opened the Strawberry Fields festival up in Canada (like Woodstock without the mud) with a fabulous solo cover of Mungo Jerry's In The Summertime. She was always a great delight.
Her voice just electrified me as a kid. She had that song Lay Down with the gospel group, and the Bicycle song--I could not get enough of her singing! I'd never seen this clip and I love it--such an unusual pairing until you remember that Johnny Case was married to a Carter, and had those bluegrass connections. But a hippie chick with hardcore road warrior--what a combo--I only wished they could have done a little harmony on the chorus. They probably didn't have enough rehearsal time. Awesome all the same. Love you always, Melanie!!!

I never saw that episode. The Johnny Cash show was required watching at our house in 1969. Mom and especially Dad had it on and we had to watch it. Never knew she was on that show. I recall her song about "skates and a key".
