    I actually used to do this every day, and I can see you know how to do it. Now I have the upgraded version of the color dialog, it's called the phoenix I think. I polish the car, shoot the pic, mix the collor and don't even check! Works 99% of the time. I do 50 cars a week, so that means I have to repaint 1 car every two weeks for collor problems. All in all saves me a lot of time checking 50 collors a week.

    Great video! Had to refinish a jasmine green Subaru this week after my coworker wouldn't listen to me about how bad his color match came out and advised him it needed to go a little blue. Hardheaded guy just decided to spray it out and leaving the boss upset and me having to fix it all today. Stubborn guys rushing the job and wanting to leave while making the rest of us pay for it.

    Must be an Auzzie spray gun model the have an inverter in the nozzle.
    Great work mate. Oh the joy of finding the hidden paint codes.
    Found them behind bumpers , which is convenient when spraying a door. Or hidden in the spare tire tub of VW so you have remove the jack , tire , ect

    This is how its done! Years ago my father wrecked his truck and the shop simply pulled the paint code, mixed up paint and sprayed the new Hood, fender and grill trim. The truck was well.over 13 years old. The front pieces they painted were better than factory finish and about 50 shades lighter than the old paint LOL. A color blind person could see that it didn't match!

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheGunmanChannel yeah they didn't even try to blend it LOL. Years before that the same body shop.messed up my car. I had hit a coyote and insurance towed it there.they had it for a couple weeks and called me up to get my car. I walked out to my car and they had replaced the Ac condenser and radiator and stuff but put the old bumper cover back on that was broken and cracked.I went in and the guy came out and scratched his head and said they had ordered a new one and he had no idea what happened. A week later they called me up to bring my car back in to get the new bumper put on, I was on my way early in the morning and a truck illegally turned in front of me as I was coming through a green light and my car was completely totalled.....I called up the shop and told them I wouldn't make it in and why.a week later I called back to come get the bumper as I had paid for it(figured I could sell it) and they wouldn't let me have it.....it really sucks when your insurance company only uses one body shop.....

    I don't know about the standox torch but a 3m sun gun in the UK is over £500 that's $1000+ Aussie. If you go to your electrical wholesaler or Toolstation / Screwfix in the UK the components are less than £50 or $100 Aussie so go build your own.

    My Outback factory color says cherry red. But it always looked blacked with a red pearlescent.. Now that I'm finally doing rust repair, I noticed it's been patches in many areas. My guess, it's been repainted in a shop with a different color.

    Keep in mind the current state of the paint is faded with hips of swirls marks..

    To be honest, I wish I am in Perth. I had a terrible experience of car accident and my car was sent to repair covered by insurance. • @danzk
      @danzk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a case of metamerism.
      Basically the colour match depends on the type lighting. So two colours could match under indoor lighting but be totally different under sunlight. That's why it's important to colour match under the sun or a light source that's as close to the sun as possible.
      Metamerism usually happens when there's a colour match mixing different pigments. For example an orange colour mixing yellow and red would be more prone to metamerism compared to using an orange pigment.

    Interesting. I had an idea, instead of painting a whole panel, lets say you just wanted to super basic spot paint using an airbrush, how feasible would that be? fill with putty, primer if necessary, basecoat and clearcoat with airbrush, blend spot out? Might not be perfect, but probably still a helluva lot better than those stupid paint pens they have at the stealership?

  • @muckman5509
    @muckman5509 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Might be a stupid question but what exactly are you matching? Is it because the original colour code has faded being in the sun? If so would that mean that the new panel you paint will fade differently to the rest of the car?

      Yes, I have a ‘12 GMC, blueish with a touch of Grey to it . A guy backed into me a few years back. My body guy says there are 13 shades of my color code and pulls out the cards, I count 13, none of which matched 100% so he had to adjust it and it’s bang on!

      Second story, Last year I bought a used ‘16 Corvette. Sight unseen, photos were good, clean CarFax. I arrive later and a quick chat on the lot and I’m off. I get home 4 days later, wash the car and see yellow overspray on some black rubber under the hood. Sure enough the front bumper has been resprayed, Rock Chips I assume. Point is: the shade of yellow is 1-2 parts too dark. Now every time I see the front bumper I think why didn’t the spray guy take an extra 5 minutes to color match, it’s not a 2006 Chevy Cruze for Pete’s sake. Anyhow, it’s covered in Vinyl Wrap now so no one knows but you 🤫

    is it true that you can't color match 100% the plastic bumper? coz its plastic

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really, you can sometimes see a colour difference but I think it's more that the bumpers sometimes sit at a slightly different angle to the panel, this will show the face of one panel and flip of the other giving the illusion that the colour is different. I've painted bumpers at the same time as panels but colour looks off and that's what I'd put it down to, I have also painted just bumpers and had them spot on.

    I have just bought Volvo v40 from volvo, and they have repainted front bumper... But colour is not a match... That "bursting blue" is much more purple on bumper... I just cant look at it... Makes me cringe 😭 Will be sending car back for bumper repaint...

      If you have a bit more of a look around car dealerships you'll notice that nearly all bumpers are different, even brand new from factory. Sorry to hear that though, and I hope the guy who paints it is good at matching.

      For a decent sized shop they are free, paint company will supply them. But I hear you can pay from $2-10k for one

    The match suck. Big difference when you take the light away. The car looks okay during sunny days but bad at night.
