Turkey: Syriac Orthodox Christians under Pressure | European Journal

  • It's one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world: the Syriac Orthodox Mor Gabriel Monastery in south-eastern Turkey. But the order lives in conflict with the surrounding Kurdish villages.Several lawsuits have been brought accusing the monastery of having illegally appropriated the land surrounding it. And the national forest authority is one of the plaintiffs. The monastery's abbot considers this to be a sign of religious discrimination. In the past few years, members of the Syriac Orthodox church have been returning in increasing numbers to make a fresh start in their homes around the holy mountain Tur Abdin. More than 300,000 Christians left the country in previous decades to escape persecution and oppression.

You are right, I do not know how you will account to the only god!
you will see the biggest slap from Jesus after death!
If you die without Islam, you will not have a share after death!
there will be no icons in churches after death!
There won't be a throne on the clouds like in the pictures!
Jesus, like the other prophets, will watch you all on the judgment day
Do you know what is the only sin that God does not forgive?
the acquisition of other gods or gods!

No, they are what remains of the indigenous, Aramaic-speaking population that dominated the region before the advent of Islam. As such, they are neither Arabs nor Kurds, much less Turks (who arrived less than a thousand years ago).

    THE HEART OF ORTHODXY
    Constantinople became istanbul,

for some its not a matter, for maney it was a great miseary.

Yes, the turkish card is very important in this ugly US, Turkey, Saudi game. It is new stage going on.
There was some turkik speeking cristians, rest from Middle ages turkik tribe in North Bulgaria - so called Gagauz - but even they fleed in XVIII and XIX to Russia from muslim's oppresions and now live in Moldova and Ukrania. Obviosly in many cases islam work as some kind of madness. And anglo-amerikan are some kind of broker with this madness. Politics and total lack of conscience
    Very sad.

@@xtremeownage2 That is not true, the Pagan dogs of Romans persecuted 200 years the Christians, but it didn't stopped with growing and became the state religion of the Armenian empire and Axumite empire. After the 6th century in the middle ages Catholics in Europe who weren't Christian, but still killed many people in the name of Christianity. Christianity doesn't say that you must to kill people, but to love them, so don't listen to Catholics, because they were the ISIS and not christians and still they aren't.

When you talk about Turkey , do not forget you are under the pressure of western media and imperialism , In fact you don't know anything about Turkey and Turks .Most of you are against ottaman because of they conquered some lands but do not forget that times , there is no french revolution (nationality) . Most of people was living under the king or feodalism. Ottoman respected other religions , If they did not , greeks , armenians, etc etc can not be christian today but think about english ,usa other christians they invaded some lands they expose them. They changed africans' religions. In fact real Turks say Ottoman was modern for their own times but then they change...
