    **Pinned Comment: A Note on Safety and Responsibility**
    I know there will be some concerns regarding my choice not to wear a seatbelt in the video, and I want to address them directly. Discussing safety while seemingly disregarding it can appear contradictory.
    Here's the deal: Choosing not to wear a seatbelt is a personal risk I take, similar to riding a motorcycle, with or without a helmet. However, this doesn't reflect my stance on professional responsibilities and legal obligations, which are paramount, especially in the context of our business.
    The core message of my video is about collective responsibility in the dumpster rental industry. It's about safeguarding our employees, our valued customers, and the wider community by adhering to industry standards and regulations, without exception. This includes ensuring we never overload dumpsters, as overfilled containers pose significant safety risks.
    My personal choice in my personal space doesn't change my commitment to upholding the highest safety standards in my professional life. It's crucial to differentiate between individual choices and our obligations as service providers. In our line of work, the safety and well-being of others are always our top priority, and maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations and industry standards is absolutely non-negotiable.
    I hope this message clarifies my stance. Your feedback is vital, and I truly appreciate your vigilance in holding me and the industry to the highest standards. It's this kind of dialogue that fosters reflection and drives us toward a safer, more responsible industry.
    Thanks for watching, and let's keep the conversation going.

    Only thing I'd add is that in these cases I always explain to the customer that this is not a Geppert Recycling rule this is a DOT rule, it can affect our permits, our drivers' licenses, and our insurance. Obviously explaining that it's not safe as well, and we cannot operate unsafely. Typically that fixes any animosity from the customer at that point. Ah, and when they say the neighborhood did that and they can't control that I ask them how would it be my responsibility when I'm not even on site?
    To expand on what you're talking about with insurance, there's too many guys that do not realize that even a WARNING shows up on your fmcsa. Your insurance WILL be affected by violations, especially when they're classified as "unsafe load" which is what that would be written up as. Why haul 40 yards of trash when they paid for a 30? You're saving them money, costing you money, risking damage or injuries to others and tickets for yourself. Unfortunately there's a lot of guys way more established than us who will take anything. They're bringing very aggressive DOT enforcement to their area by doing so.
    Enjoy watching your videos when they pop up 👍

      David, I truly appreciate the watch and comment! With the way the industry is growing, lots of new guys are coming in (including myself) who have absolutely no idea how much DOT violations can affect them. I don't blame them, because I wouldn't either if I didn't have previous experience in owning a transportation business. Anyways, again, I appreciate the watch and comment brother and your expertise and perspective!

    Great video. We've been there. I charge a deposit and they lose it if they over fill the dumpster. If it's not bad we clean it off ourselves. If it's bad enough we offer to park a 2nd dumpster and let them fix the problem. I've never dumped a load where it sits but it's always an option.

    Nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade. Feelings don't beat our reality. However, one thing John talks about at SameDay is that your contract doesn't matter in the moment. Setting the expectation during the delivery process is more important that trying to defend your contract after the fact. Thanks as always for the content, Josh!

    • @AmericanAFDumpsters
      @AmericanAFDumpsters  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is very true, in the moment contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on. Even more true is they are useless unless someone takes the time to try and enforce them. I'd much rather avoid all the legal crap rather and just deal with the situation, compromise if I can and it doesn't cost me anything, and move on to the next customer. Sometimes we get caught up chasing pennies and end up losing dollars! I almost always, if someone is available at the dropoff, to let them know not to go over the top, but as always there is usually an excuse, neighbors filled it up, contractors didn't know, etc etc etc. Anyways, appreciate the watch, comment and perspective!!

    DOT looks at it as loaded to spill.. thats if nothing comes out during transport. Ticket to the driver.. Debris comes out its a securement issue.. another ticket.. any damages caused its more issues.

    I understand. Most of the time I am a polite, chill, kind of guy. But my defences go up immediately if someone approaches me aggressively or cursing at me. I think you handled the situation the best you could at the moment. You even helped the guy out by not charging for your wasted trip to pick up. 👍

      Sometimes we just gotta compromise as business owners. I got mine, and he got his. Just gotta move on I guess! Appreciate the watch and comment brother!

    Absolutely right. If you are a professional or even growing your small business, you need to be SAFE and professional. If we don't self regulate then it will indeed become more regulated by bureaucratic action.

      You couldn't be more right! Whether you're a pro or just starting out, staying safe and professional is a must. Let's avoid unnecessary regulations by being responsible and taking control of our own actions.

      Much appreciated on the view and comment brother!! You are correct as well, safety first! Even if I would have gotten a bad review, my conscience would have been clean and I would be just fine knowing I did not cause an accident or hurt anyone by trying to haul a call that I know I shouldn’t!!

    Do you ask for reviews? Do you follow up after a transactions related to process improvement? I'm glad you were able to square up with that guy. It sounded like he was also in a pinch with his schedule. You compromised and met him in the middle. That's big of you. I would have done the same.

    • @AmericanAFDumpsters
      @AmericanAFDumpsters  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes we do ask for reviews. Our software, DRS offers text message follow ups after every rental that asks if the customer was happy with their service. Depending on their response, it will send a link to our google profile for them to leave a review. Appreciate the watch and comment!!
