Some Truck Guys Talk BIG, But Trailer Guys Hustle Harder
I’m tired of hearing all the crap talked to trailer guys from the big truck guys, as if they aren’t real businesses simply because of the equipment they use. Even worse, when some of the truck guys actually started in trailers and then want to talk down to others because now they have a “real truck.”
Let’s discuss this, and let’s try to change this industry mindset that some businesses are less than others simply because they use a trailer vs an actual rolloff truck!

- roll-off trailer guys HUSTLE HARDER. 💪🚛
There’s this ridiculous mindset in the dumpster rental industry that if you don’t drive a big roll-off truck, you’re somehow not “legit.” That’s complete BS. In this video, I’m exposing the real truth about roll-off trailers vs roll-off trucks and why trailer guys have to work TWICE as hard to make the same money - or more!
If you’re running a non-CDL dumpster rental business or considering getting into the roll-off trailer game, this video is for you. We break down:
✅ Why roll-off trailers require MORE hustle than trucks
✅ How trailer guys outwork the competition DAILY
✅ Why truck drivers love to hate on trailers (while they continue to make MONEY)
✅ The REAL earning potential of a roll-off trailer business
🚛💨 Let’s get real:
• Driving a roll-off truck is easier because the system does most of the work.
• Roll-off trailers? You’re out there hustling. You’re in and out of the truck, winching, strapping, maneuvering tighter spaces, and out-thinking every move.
• You don’t need a CDL (some setups do require a CDL). You don’t need a $300k truck althoigh it is easier and more convenient. You just need WORK ETHIC.
📢 The Debate Ends Here:
Truck guys love to say:
🚫 “Trailers aren’t real roll-offs.”
🚫 “You’re just playing in the big leagues.”
🚫 “That’s cute. Get a REAL truck.”
Meanwhile, trailer guys are out here stacking cash, expanding businesses, and running circles around ‘big truck’ operations. 💰
If you’re thinking about starting a dumpster rental business but don’t want to drop six figures on a big rig, this video is going to open your eyes.

The Lone Star Dumpster Showcase: Game-Changing Tips to Grow Your Dumpster Business!
Great job with this video! I definitely learned yet again to overcome my fears and self-doubts. As I am working on it, thanks for the reminder.
Sounds like a lawn mower, doesn’t sound very powerful at all
i had the same trailer custumers always saw it like a trailer and not a real company i sold the trailer and bought a truck i miss my trailer
I always felt like, if you depict what you offer on your website (assuming most people would find us on our websites) then there should be no surprises when we show up. For instance, when I used to rent out dump trailers as "dumpsters" I would always make sure the site had nothing but dump trailers in the pics along with emails that were sent out to customers. I wanted to make sure they knew exactly what they were getting before even picking up the phone or we show up. But, who knows how many people saw that on my site and decided NOT to book because they wanted a traditional dumpster. I do feel the rolloff truck and dumpsters is the more traditional, most efficient and most professional way to go, however, I could save a boat ton of money if it were just me and a truck and trailer vs a big rolloff truck if you know what I mean. Appreciate the watch and comment!
I still remember the early days of the “dumpster” business when you went to hook up one of your trailers and couldn’t get it low enough because you pinned the jack up too high not accounting for the weight of trash on your suspension when you tried to hook back up to the trailer. It looks like you’ve come a pretty long way in the last couple years
I've learned a lot since then, but still have a lot to learn. Thanks for the reminder of the hustle!
I like the way you run your business but you care too much about what others might think or say.. Bro, DO YOUR THING and stop over explaining
100%
Is it fixed now
Nope, unfortunately not
Nah its a dumpster. Just put stickers on it cover the scratches
Boom! This guy gets it!
Nah its a dumpster. Just put stickers on it cover the scratches
Yes sir!
I'm so glad you said it. Everyone had to start somewhere. And ain't nothing wrong with starting at the bottom. And I'm my opinion starting with a trailer is not the bottom. Thanks for all you do Josh Roman
We all have our journeys we've got to go down and our hills we have to climb! Biggest thing to me is to never try and pull someone down from climbing theirs! Appreciate the watch and comment brother!
Hey Josh, always appreciate your hustle sir, you're always killing it and you're not a guy that talks about it, you live it and really respect your dedication game sir! Brian - Prosper, TX
I appreciate you and your comment Brian! I never wanna be that guy, do as I say but not as I do. Or even better, just use me to learn from my mistakes and do as you wish lol. I dont want anyone to do as I do, I just try to share my story and my journey and if it can help some, thats incredible! Hope all is well brother!!
I’ve been in the Rolloff industry since I graduated high school. Drove all kinds of trucks in between. Nothing wrong starting somewhere in fact starting small and building is something to be proud of. Trailer or truck whatever gets your feet wet and makes you money. Started NTX in 2021 and have grown it a bit. But I think it’s time for me to put the pedal to the metal and grow. Let get this!! Plenty of work for all of us
Yes sir, get out there and get your fair share.
If my truck auto parked, I'd be pissed af lol. I'm the trailer guy. I've always loved getting hated on. Keegan, my driver doesn't even enjoy our new Kenworth, prefers the trailer everytime! He just got good with it and comfortable.
And there is ZERO wrong with that!!! Tired of the "holier than though" mentality simply because someone has a bigger truck. That's not a flex imo. And thats coming from a guy who has used every type of equipment out there!!!
Let the haters leave comments and ignore it. Simple.
Easy, but sometimes I gotta vent lol
Got to love the hater, Josh
Haha keyboard warriors!
yup. hotshot guys deal with the same crap lol
Very true, I've seen it!
Long as we are all making a living and feeding our families that’s all that matters. Yes someday i hope to get a truck but if not all good. I don’t criticize anyone for making a living as long as its legal 💪
Amen!!
You aren't wrong. But work smart not hard. But in the end you do what you gotta do. I have total respect for trailer guys getting it done. But they are doing it for a reason. Cheaper to get into the industry. Even if they stay in trailers for a long time, trucks make more sense in the long run. Look at Rollling Ops, Look at Lifes Apprentice, Look at you AF. You've all integrated trucks into your business eventually. Trailer is a smart move financially to get in and build your brand. Nothing wrong with that.
Right on point and you can haul more on a truck than trailer.
I agree big trucks are more efficient and might be the way to grow and scale a business if thats what you want. But, the guy who can operate his business with a truck and a trailer, and can save hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment can be so much more profitable than a big guy too. Theres a 100 ways to look at it. We all have a vision for our own companies and what we want to do. Why do people tend to put others down simply because they don't have the same vision? It makes no sense. A guy with a truck and trailer and say 10-20 dumpsters can easily make 6 figures a year with very high profit margins. Thats not a bad way to make a living imo.
28$ ton were im from.. but that's the price of business!
Thats not a bad rate at all!
In regards to the stolen CC scam. Take a picture of the renters ID that requested it. If charges are disputed. Report the person who rented it and sue.
That might work!
Up up
And away.... lol
Hey Josh, what ever happened to the wheels and tires you had ordered for the ram from that tire shop a while ago?
Bruh, they had originally told me 3 weeks. 8 weeks later they still didn't have my rims so I tried to cancel, and they wouldn't give me my deposit back. Then I changed my mind on how I wanted it and decided to keep the stock rims and go big AF tires lol

In the market for one. Will be reaching out. Thanks man
Awesome! Looking forward to hearing from you.
What do you charge for dump and renturns
Same as I would for a regular delivery. No discount.
Its not my business to tell others how to run their business, but I do like the way you run your business.
Appreciate you brother!
What up josh warsaw Ky tapping in
Whats up Warsaw KY!!! Appreciate the watch and comment!!!!
Absolutely love the daily content 👌
Glad to hear it! I appreciate the comment and watch!!
I couldn’t agree with you more with the way you handled rhat
I appreciate that!! Sometimes we all do things or have policies within our businesses that we create over time, usually from past experiences. This is one of them. Sometimes it's hard for new business owners to get that we are in business to make money. We are not running a not-for-profit or a charity. If we do the job, we should get paid. Can we make exceptions, absolutely, and that is usually done on a case by case basis. This one was not an exception lol in my case. Appreciate the watch and comment!!
@ took me a while to realize that but as I moved forward in business I learned how to handle things, I think all new businesses experience something common like this situation and realize later on what to do
how is the two camera set up working it’s in my cart to order?
What brand of camera system is he running if I may ask? Thanks
I absolutely love mine, wouldn't want to drive this truck and trailer without it ever again lol.
amzn.to/3WI0o9w
keep the content coming!
Appreciate the support brother!!
curious to see if you could do a more in debt look at where you placed the cameras. How was the wiring and show the cameras in use. Thanks
Cameras are magnetic, so place them where it works best for you. Also wireless, lol makes things super easy!
Josh, can I get the dimensions of the can on the trailer? Can it hold a 22 footer being a 20 foot trailer? Thanks man!
The rail is actually 22' long, so a 22' dumpster with the front hook A-Frame and door makes it overhang about 11 inches over the rails of the trailer.
get the news involved just putting it out there will make them think twice
Update coming soon!
hey man i got a video idea maybe you would do. what about making a video of if you were starting today what equipment you would start with. im looking to start but id like to buy a trailer that hopefully when i upgrade in the future the cans would fit with out having to modify them.
100% would start with the hooklift trailers if I were to start all over again. That is why I have gotten into selling the hooklift trailers. They need to be more readily available here in the US. Hooklift trailer, 14' deck with 16' dumpsters. That way the 16' dumpsters would work on the trailer and can scale with you as your company grows.
@ what about your ram you good with the gas or do you wish you would have gotten diesel
I just got a 4 star because I left the dumpster an extra day. I thought I was making the customer a favor but you right. They just want to get rid of the dumpster and make the house look as it should. Have a wonderful day guys!
Geez! That sucks! Having 5.0 stars is overrated, 4.7's and up or around there make you seem more human lol.
@@AmericanAFDumpsters thanks chief.
Hey Josh , I was just checking. On these tp trailers you can extend the tarp by pulling the pins on the tarp arms. You might already know but if you didn’t hopefully I could help
Yes, I replaced mine for longer ones to reach all the way back toon the 25s, then a drilled new holes for the pins
Yes sir, I need some time to work on them. I have since bent the tarp arms so I am going to replace them with galvanized pipes. Appreciate the watch brother!
So I asked a local company that builds hook lift trucks on what happened to your truck and they said it could have been caused by multiple things, but they said the main reason they see transmissions grenade are usually PTO driven hooklifts that are either mismatched to the transmission, engaging and disengaging the pto when trucks moving, or just handling overloaded containers. He said it’s usually rare to see it happen but it does happen time to time. Edit: I thought this was interesting too. He did mention yes everyone tends to use hook lift systems for 30 yard containers because of the many advances it has, but he did say that if you are constantly handling dumpsters at a high volume with a good amount of weight that most people will choose the cable over hook lift because the cable can pick up greater loaders more efficiently and not strain the system too much. He used the example of Waste Management. If you look at a lot of roll off trucks they have it’s usually cable. He seemed super knowledgeable and helped me a lot because I’m looking at my first dumpster truck.
I will always be a hook guy I believe lol. These trucks are meant to handle the weight, honestly, we are usually way way under what the trucks are meant to haul on a consistent basis. I think on average our 30's and 40's hardly haul over 6-8 tons. Just doesn't make sense. Anyways I appreciate you checking with your mechanic brother!
if you buy 45 degree elbows for the tarp it will not need to be extended over the gantry but will give you extra length
Interesting. I bent one of my tarp arms about 45 degrees and it didn't make it any longer lol. But I might give it a shot, appreciate the comment!
Can you add stops closer to the front of the rail for the 30/40 cans? Leaving enough room for cable to come off winch?
Yes I have thought of welding some stops further up.
Man you need to add remote start then in high court
That would be nice! But the choke always has to be pushed which is up by the engine.
Hey Josh. I’m in Los Angeles. I wanted to buy a roll off trailer 14 feet max since the neighborhoods are tight here. What do you recommend
Keystone or a Hooklift Trailer. I have one for sale currently. www.AmericanAFTrailers.com
great content. keep up the great leadership and example!!!
Much much much appreciated brother!
tighter tracks will hurt in the long run. It wears down the tread faster and causes more unnecessary pressure, in addition to removing traction. widen the tracks and learn how to easily put the track back in place without leaving the machine. It's the same principle as replacing the bicycle chain 💪
Farmer from portugal
I have since loosened the tracks. Appreciate you!
Feel for you on this, felt like a few parts I was watching and listening to audio of me on a delivery 😂 keep on, keepin on! You’re doing great brother! Watching you grow, has kept me pushing in my own business!
Thanks for the support, means a lot!
Hi Josh, I’ve been thinking about getting into the business for a while. Not sure what you’re willing to pay. There’s a guy up here in Ohio that has a hook tandem for 84k. S&S commercial out of Medina Ohio. It’s on their website. Just wanted to throw that out there. You’re doing a great job with the channel. I’ve been watching here and there since you started. It’s been inspiring and it’s given me inspiration about considering doing a small business going into semi retirement.
Man I appreciate you!! Do what makes you happy brother!! That's what matters the most!
I’m surprised so much of that stuff is just going right to landfills and no a transfer station to be sorted. Around here transfer stations sort all the wood, metal, and trash, and then the only trash/waste goes to a landfill or an incinerator.
Yea I hear stories from guys in other states how they have to separate everything, C&D in one dumpster and regular house trash in another. That sounds horrible to have to try and separate all of that!
Have you done a video on how to set up a contract or a consumer form at drop off or online?
We do all of ours online.
