@strongbad666 Sorry my wording might have confused you, but your reading it wrong. I’m from CT and warning you NOT TO LIVE in this state. It’s like California but much smaller, colder, and with nothing to do. Why do you think thousands leave every year? Taxes, boredom, crime, poor job opportunities, income inequality, etc. It’s truly awful! At least I’ve heard DE has decent beaches - this state has 0 decent ones, at least the ones I’ve been too and I live on the Coast. Again why do you think most people are literally fleeing? And I’m going to be one of them in several years.
I grew up in Monterey California, and have now been living the past two years in Connecticut. Honestly, between the two coasts, the elitist snobbery it's something I've encountered far more on the West coast than the East Coast. New Englanders in particular are reserved but once you get to know them they are actually very warm and authentic. I've encountered far more superficial people living in California than I ever have living here in Connecticut. Just my observation...

That’s like saying “as somebody who has stubbed my toe in the backyard and also sustained a compound fracture of my femur in a car accident, I can tell you that stubbing my toe wasn’t all that bad.”
Thanks for the giggle! We left CT a year ago for Texas and yes, I always thought CT was boring... UNTIL I got here! OMG! It's like living in a third world country! Boring is an understatement... add to that, anything that may be of interest is AT LEAST a 2 hour minimum drive, more like 4 on average. Then you get to wherever that everyone has been telling you is so fabulous and you're like HUH? WTF! LOL
@@meself349 exactly I’m a pretty optimistic person about life, but Jesus Christ CT will make you miserable as hell. I do not understand people who somehow like this state, I think they’re mental asylum Escapees with lobotomies.
I've lived in CT my whole life and so many things are spot on in this video but not all. Most people here are friendly and kind. We love having four seasons even if sometimes we complain. We are the state that if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes it will change. Someone in another comment mentioned our local breweries but don't forget our amazing local cideries. We have 4 permanent and many seasonal ones. Check them out!! Also, we invented the hamburger and have the best pizza in the world.
There are many claims to who invented the Hamburger. One version has it that it was invented at the Erie County Fair held in Hamburg New York . The claim I subscribe to is that it was invented in New Haven CT 1895, at Louis’ Lunch. It is still being served by the fourth generation of owners in the originial building and using the original vertical toasters in New Haven, CT. Don't ask for ketshup, you won't get any. Recognized by the Liberty of Congress as the Birthplace of the Hamburger Sandwich
After living in CT for 23 years you forgot to mention all the breweries we have and how often we get new ones. May I recommend Witchdoctor Brewing Company in Southington.
I’ve been there, and it’s really nice. I’m disappointed that the only area of Hartford County he mentioned was Hartford. What about Meriden, Southington, Berlin, or Cheshire?
Bridgeport was a beautiful thriving city but started going downhill in the 60s. Their factories made 2/3 of the ammunition used by our military in WW2. Two things happened after the war, the factories started moving elsewhere so they could pay cheaper wages while at the same time, thousands of poor people from the south and Puerto Rico moved up thinking they could get good jobs in the factories. No jobs, but they stayed. Wait, a third thing happened: Bridgeport was run by corrupt mayors and their buddies who exacerbated the decline. Their rule caused Bridgeport homeowners to pay higher property taxes than the wealthy towns to the south. Some time in the 70s Paul Newman who lived two towns away, said Bridgeport was the armpit of New England. Decades later he apologized. If PT Barnum, a former mayor, could see what happened to his city he would weep. Also, Bridgeport has the most beautiful municipal beach in the state. Designed by Olmstead it comprises 375 acres and a 2.5 mile road and sidewalk along the shore. Barnum was a large land donor for it. Most other CT town shorelines have skimpy beaches with no road, because the vast majority of the shoreline property was allowed to be bought up by the wealthy.
😂😂😂This comment section has me in tears. Born in Hartford in 1963. Lived in Windsor for 50 years. Went to UConn (of course) etc. I always thought I'd move once my loved ones had passed, but now that I'm alone, I've realized CT is basically the whole USA in a thumbnail... We are truly a little of everything. I'll stay and explore my favorite spots...😊❤
@ You don't know over priced, my dear, until you live in WLA (BH, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu). Growing up in Greenwich, at least you got something for your money, not a 10,000 square foot house on a 100 foot lot, priced at $3.5 million.
@@justinajones3000 That’s the thing though. Connecticut is perfect for its healthcare aspect but for the cost of living isn’t worth it. New York,Ca and others have many things to do and is lively. The people of ct are rude, judge mental and funny acting(I lived in southern and other city states so ik the different vibes in all of them). Personally it isn’t worth it and plan on moving in a couple years. Also there’s nothing really in Ct. No Disneyland or anything besides Yale and that’s it.
Hey, I’m from Connecticut! Any other Nutmeggers on here also? If not what state do you come from and what do you think of mine?! It’s ok you can call it boring, because IT IS! :)
Some of these comments. lol. Born and raised in CT, but have lived in NC and now WI. I can't wait to move back to CT! I'm interested in finding out where all these people are moving to avoid the "trash" because I gotta tell you, it's in all 50 states.
They are all coming to Danbury. We have tons of New Housing, the lowest unemployment rate in the state and have the only school district in the state that has grown over the past 10 years.. We've had to add new buildings, sadly it is the lowest funded district in the state. They still can't fix the school funding issues because they won't combine smaller districts elsewhere.
It’s Christmas Eve 2020, last week we had a foot of snow, today it was 50 degrees and right now at 10:20 pm the wind is howling with supposedly up to 60 mph gusts and we’re expecting crazy rain fall with coastal and low laying area flooding then the temps are supposed to drop like a stone tomorrow, Christmas Day! Lol,lol,lol....so what else is new my fellow nut meggers?
I started a Yale and graduated from UConn. when I was accepted at Columbia, I thought I "I could take the train from Greenwich to NYC" instead of moving so far away to New Haven. One commute, a trial run, told me I didn't want to go to college in a ghetto.
I grew up in Southeastern CT. I always wanted to get out of the state and now that I am out, I kinda miss it. I miss being close to everything. I wouldn't go back to live but CT and RI will always have a special place in my heart.
Born and raised in Hartford before moving to Puerto Rico and people always ask me which do I prefer and can never give them a straight answer because they’re very different places. I go back every now and then because I have family up there and I like it a lot despite whatever problems are mentioned. Went to CT for thanksgiving in 2018 and drove around and did a whole bunch of stuff with my family and never got bored. I think it depends on your personality, if you’re a calm, not in a rush, history loving person, it’s perfect. But if you like the heavy and active city life, then go somewhere else honestly because it will be boring as you mentioned a few times because it’s true. I would honestly go back because it fits my life style perfectly unlike here in PR whose government is more corrupt than the US as a whole and that says a lot and crime is soaring.
I moved to Connecticut a year ago for work. Became close friends with a co-worker & bought a motorcycle. Wanted to get a bigger bike so I went to sell it on FB Marketplace. Found a person interested in it, was a younger kid, and not knowing Connecticut at the time I went forward with the deal. Kid didn't have a vehicle so I delivered it to him.. in Waterbury. As soon as I entered Waterbury I seen boarded up houses & it looked straight up ghetto. I'm not a person to judge others so I said eh, whatever I'll continue. Unloaded the bike for the kid to test ride it & he took off. No where to be found as I circled the blocks quite a few times. Houses in Waterbury have driveways on the side with garages sitting in the back so most likely it's in one of them. Learned my lesson to have cash in hand when dealing with people and to stay out of Waterbury. Nothing but criminals there as the Police Officer said that I ran into just down 2 blocks from where I got my bike stolen. It's been about 6 months since the incident, no info from the police yet. Connecticut is sketchy.
Having travelled throughout the country, I can say that one of the things I value about Connecticut when I get back is the amount of educated and sensible people there. I was shocked at the amount of uneducated people you will encounter in the South and Midwest. I think that for many is the big draw in the state--living amongst people who can use their minds. It may not sound important but when you are surrounded with people who do not value education or have limited ability to think or express themselves clearly (yes, I mean rednecks and hillbillies) you feel like you've entered the twilight zone.
I saw the same thing when I was in the Army. I was born and raised in Fairfield County, graduated from UCONN, and went into the Army. Many of the soldiers were barely literate. When I came back I had to go to the opposite corner of CT because Fairfield County had become way too expensive.
@Liz Houlihan. I absolutely agree Liz, I'm born and have lived in Ct my whole life. Spending time in South Florida has its advantages in regards to weather in the winter. But truly life is what you make of it!! Merry Christmas and God bless!🎄
I’m probably the millionth person to mention some things you missed but I want to add my 2¢: -New Haven pizza is the best in the universe -We’re the least dependent on subsidies from the federal government -You can actually reach a decent amount of the state by train (kinda cheating because we’re so small)
@@alijoy1721 It changes year to year but we’re usually in the top 3 as “least dependent” I know it’s easy to complain about high taxes but this is a huge benefit, it also means that our social welfare system is more robust than most other states
I am from their . MILFORD it has some of the best people I have ever met . People are real ! Your rendition of this beautiful state is far from what I grew up in and love . To each is own ...
They are fleeing the pandemic in NYC. They'll move back again soon. Connecticut hasn't had sustained population growth since 2000. The only people moving here are Puerto Ricans fleeing the hurricanes and the economic collapse in PR.
Fairfield County is actually way more diverse than he described. Sure there’s a lot of rich people here, but there’s also just as many working class people.
To be fair I think the term ghetto is relative. I live in a town in Long island New York that has an average household income of $65,000 (waaay above the national average) but yet it's still considered one of the "worst towns" in Long island because Long island is known for its million dollar mansions. To be honest most of Connecticut's bad areas would be considered average in any other American state
The cities in CT were once nice and vibrant and now the suburbs are becoming bad too. Every day there is at least a few car break ins in my small town. They are coming from the cities and creating havoc in the suburbs now too. Time to leave.
I live in CT, i lived in the hood grew up with gangbangs, drug dealers on the corner with the hoes and pimps. I had to run to the bus and run home cause i got shook down from the kids that were dealing. Now live next to million dollar homes after i got my shit together and guess what, i love it here and its 8min from where i use to live. A 8 min drive can be life changing, you would never think it!
I can believe it because I live in CT. Up the street there's sex offenders and I think I saw a heroin needle walking home. Down the street is a public park and fancy expensive apartments. A bit past that is the ghetto again. Also up the street past that is suburbs
I love how we how we have a governor of this crappy state and the mayor of one the poorest cities (Hartford) who both grew up in one of the wealthiest towns in the state (Greenwich) and went to the same exclusive school (Phillips Exeter Academy) how can they relate to middle to low income people of this state??? The answer is they CAN'T
As a CT native, I have to say, your video was well researched and not inaccurate BUT I am (probably one of few) people who actually love living here and find that there is so much to do! Because of the diversity in the state and being so close to Boston and NY, there is actually a ton of interesting things to do here and shows from music to comedy to broadway, come through all of the time. You can go to the beach and ski in the same state! I think people who find CT boring must not be looking very hard.
I've lived out of the country and in other states and I had to come back. I know we'll travel more (once Covid is in control) but there is no where else I want to raise kids. Lake life in the summer, fall fairs and festivals and pumpkin picking, city adventures, the art scene, kayaking, the race tracks, the shoreline... So much to do. We'll always have a home here. My husband and I explore different towns around CT every weekend and there is so much to do. We also bought a kayak this year and we find a new body of water to explore all of the time. We're been back here five years and we are always finding a new place to explore and fantastic food. People who say it is boring or not diverse don't get out much or talk to anyone outside their circles. I love knowing that other people have gratitude for CT. I really struggled culturally and financially outside of Connecticut and it was a relief to be back. I'm a small town girl at heart who also loves to go off and explore. The best of both worlds.
I would say it depends on what you like doing. For those that don’t really find fun in those activities you mentioned…it’s incredibly boring. Not even to mention the annual seasonal depression that kicks in from January to March.
The summers are terribly hot and make you want winter. Winter is cold and ugly and your back where you started. And spring and autumn sucks for anyone with allergies.

I bought a weekend home in CT 4 years ago and love leaving heading up on the weekends, especially now with COVID. A few of my friends bought homes too. You get a bang for your buck compared to houses in the Bronx where the yards are tiny, houses are so tight your neighbor can peek through your window, there is no parking in the streets etc. I got the best of both worlds though and I'm not complaining!
I’m 65 and lived more than half of my life in New York City (was born there also) …before moving to Connecticut in 1992. I Actually feel safer and find people more decent and sociable when I go back to Manhattan to visit than I generally experience here in Connecticut. And I live in a “good” area here also. Doesn’t really matter. It’s not a nice place.
Awwww Mappy got all sentimental and gushy. How sweet! 😊 Love your “Connecticut Snob” outfit. You were even rockin’ the sweater over the shoulders! I'm a CT native. Left 34 yrs. ago for MD as a career move. Best move i ever made. Yes, CT is boring, beautiful & so freakin expensive, which is why i jumped ship. Still visit family there, tho. Still a gorgeous state, too!
As a person who lives in Groton (next to mystic), we sure as hell don’t put clams on our pizza....... everything else is spot on. If CT was a jar in a spice rack, it would be flour
I love me some Captain Scott's right across in NL you won't be disappointed with the seafood. Or if you to go out fishing andcatch something fresh yourself you can't beat the Blackhawk they have the best charter boat around!
Dude, you f......g nailed it! I was born and raised in CT and lived there for the first 44 years of my life. (bailed out, bought a sailboat and moved to Key West). Your observations are spot on, 100%. If you haven't spent a lot of time there, then you've done a LOT of research! Well done. :-)
The history here is incredible though! We have the oldest continuously running art museum in the country and Hartford was the wealthiest city in the country in the 1800's and a ton of famous people lived there.
That’s not super interesting. The only somewhat interesting thing about the state is the southern border? Why? You get to watch how many peoples are leaving this awful place.
@@tony_5156 Its called an opinion. Plus Ive worked at three historic institutions here in CT. The history is outstanding and more people should visit. Just because you dont find it interesting doesnt mean others dont.

I love that city and have fond memories so bite me
Only some of us are former New Yorkers.. the obnoxious ones who can’t drive like us natives! Lol remember the number one rule of the road here in CT... even in stand still traffic, you can get where you’re going a lot sooner if you pass the car in front of you!
I have been to New Haven a few times the part near Lighthouse Point Park is very nice, and I went to a cherry blossom festival in Wooster Square which was nice. However, apart from those areas New Haven is a very bad city.
Love it here and your right about everything. Mix of all types of people what makes it great. Also for a day trip you can reach NY Boston the cape Martha's Vinyard Vermont upstate NY beaches ect. Everything you could ever ask for.
Some years Bridgeport's is worse than new haven. But I think Bridgeport is back on it's way up, with steel point and the work they are doing in marina village! I hope to see it grow

I have lived in CT most of my life. We are definitely not all snobs, lol, but a lot of people here are, which sucks. If I could give any advice, DON'T MOVE TO CT! Other than the pretty fall foliage and if you are able to get a good paying job (not likely unless you are highly educated beyond belief), this is the most expensive state to live in. And it's only getting harder to live on what jobs realistically pay for the majority of people who work. The winters suck and no there aren't any "good beaches" unless you like black water up your neck filled with seaweed, ha ha. I gotta move. Ugh...

Whenever I think of Connecticut or any other New England state, I picture it snowing really hard and haunted houses and graveyards. Is it true that Connecticut has alot of haunted houses?
Not only does Connecticut have a lot of haunted places, more than any other state, but a study that was done not too long ago determined that other than Washington DC, there is a higher percentage of people with psychopathic personality traits living in Connecticut than anywhere else in the country
I lived there for a brief moment lol. Hate the police there. Got beat up at the Blockbusters by Friendlys and Stop and Shop 20 years ago by Willimantic P.D

I was born and raised in Connecticut, and I have been living here for more than 65 years. I see its faults, but I enjoy its benefits every day. “Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home.”
I always like the “unboxing” videos of the states, I can learn things about states that I’ve never known about, also love your comedic approach Mr.Johnson, also how did Connecticut gets its nickname?. I really like the Nirvana sounding song 😄🤟🏾.
Nutmeggers > Nutmeg State > the old Yankee pedlars from the 1800s used to sell nutmeg and other spices all over the east coast, so the nickname developed from that. And it's faster to say than "Connecticuters".
There are plenty of nice, normal people, if a bit less nice than many other places. Not a lot to do, but you will be too busy working 2-3 jobs to pay all the taxes to worry about it. State government doing it’s best to drive remaining businesses out of state, along with jobs.
Yup, pretty accurate! I'm thinking about moving to another state (still deciding between IN, NE, and NC) because of how expensive it is here, plus it is kind of boring!
I hope Foxwoods comped you for snubbing Mohegan sun. That should be be worth a free weekend. Funny map, and well done ! Great captains hat ! How did you know so fast that gossip is CT’s official state hobby.
I've lived in CT nearly 40 years and hate it beyond any possible expression. Once I no longer have family obligations keeping me here, I'm leaving and never looking back. BTW, with this state's excessive taxation, it's no surprise that there's such a large gulf between the rich and poor. We're proof that you can't tax a population into prosperity.
My family moved from Oklahoma City to Connecticut 12 years ago. I liked OK City, but we also enjoy living in CT. They're very different states, lots of pros & cons.
I live in Fairfield and I’ve noticed that a lot of people are moving in again especially from New York. Probably due to COVID-19. Bridgeport will have a turnaround in a few years. It’s currently being gentrified.
Swamp Yankee here, and this checks out. To give an idea of what its like in the rural areas economically, there are a few ultra rich who run the towns but don't actually live there, and everyone else is either trailer park poor or upper middle class at best. I grew up in a middle class household, and its pretty likely my kids will grow up in a working class household. Definitely feels like a general downward spiral around here. Also, its totally true what they say about CT people being unfriendly, the first big road trip I took to the south, I was astounded by how nice everyone was! You can't get the time of day from people up here, or they will look at you like they don't understand that other people are allowed to speak to them. Its kind of like everyone is lost in thought, quietly dreading their next foreclosure.

Then you must not spend a lot of time down in New London county. We're the sarcasm capital of the world.
The hamburger was invented in Hamburg, Germany, and brought here by immigrants. It first gained prominence in NYC. CT didn't invent anything.

New Yorker are now moving in and the small New England charm is be lost in the mix . So now when you hit the age when you slow down it time to move south !!!
I live in Connecticut. And the only thing we look forward to in the northeastern part of the state is
Dunkin’ Donuts and Bakers Dozen.
yeah..... go Moosup! love the old photographs on the wall...... the one of the small tavern with the beefy, cigar smoking barkeep with the crank phonograph on the bar is priceless..... when America worked (literally)....
Putnam....where Dunkin and Bakers Dozen are right next to each other and theres still a line at Dunkin and none at Bakers 😂
@@danianderin I love bakers! I’ll be the only one in line 😂
I work in Moosup. All my coworkers go to Baker's Dozen.
When I need a break from NY, I go to CT. I LOL I love CT.
Haha cool
Really? 🤨
@@dannyzurlo7943 Yes. Lol why is that “🤨” worthy?
U lyin
@@kasinovargas6888 no need to.
Whenever I think of Connecticut or any other New England state, I picture it snowing really hard and haunted houses and graveyards. Is it true that Connecticut has alot of haunted houses?
yes it’s true
Maybe. I've lived here my whole life and I've been fine.
Not only does Connecticut have a lot of haunted places, more than any other state, but a study that was done not too long ago determined that other than Washington DC, there is a higher percentage of people with psychopathic personality traits living in Connecticut than anywhere else in the country
I guess I’m Ghetto since I was born in Bridgeport then moved to Waterbury and I gotta say we is broke over here 😂
@Luna Owl no, it's a ghetto.
Loved the music at the end!! Clever
Hello from Willimantic, Connecticut.
Heroin capital of the world whats up
I lived there for a brief moment lol. Hate the police there. Got beat up at the Blockbusters by Friendlys and Stop and Shop 20 years ago by Willimantic P.D
The police are really bad in willimantic and also Plainfeild one of their cops smashed my face against the back of the front seat inside the cop car, i had a huge scrape mark on my face and the charges they tryed to give me got dropped

Hi
Holyshit I'm leaving Connecticut in a few months cannot wait finally going to be rid of this place
I did 7 years ago! No planning to return barely make a long weekend when visiting 🤣
Yep I hear that. Plan on moving out in a couple years.
Omg take me with you pleaaaaase. I cannot bare to stay here any longer!
I’m looking at places in Florida next week. Georgia and Texas are on my list too. Can’t wait to get outta here
I left for 3 years I love TN... but hubby’s job hanged we had to come back to CT due to a large decrease in money. Moved back to Northford CT...happy to have a house a d good paying job...CT gave us a higher paying job more thanTN
I’m a Connecticut native and resident. This man has gotten everything right about our state.
This man always does
Born and raised in Ansonia CT wouldn't trade this state for any other!! I love CT and I've been to 32 states CT is great !!
There's more unboxing coming soon ;)
Nutmeggers > Nutmeg State > the old Yankee pedlars from the 1800s used to sell nutmeg and other spices all over the east coast, so the nickname developed from that. And it's faster to say than "Connecticuters".
@@stevetalkstoomuch thanks for the explanation !:)
Coco Taveras My Sister moved to NC and seems to like it, but she’s retired and kind of dull.
@@jonlouis2582 So am I, well not retired but definitely dull :)
Coco Taveras 😀
@@jonlouis2582 Just stating it as it is, I’m boring OK! Don’t judge me! xD 😂
The great thing about ct is that it forces you to travel to other places. From northeast ct living in SF.
Yes
True
Most of my college classmates moved out of state, they can't afford to build a family here.
Subbed. Dude your too funny and informative at the same time.
❤️ yay!!
Spot on
Where you moving?
@@stickerlady1774 My top 3 choices would be Jacksonville, Boise, and Oklahoma City.
My family moved from Oklahoma City to Connecticut 12 years ago.
I liked OK City, but we also enjoy living in CT. They're very different states, lots of pros & cons.
@@RobertWF42 I'm jealous. OKC is one of my favorite cities. I could eat Whataburger and Waffle House every day.
I moved to Georgia from CT 23 years ago after graduating from SCSU. No regrets, but I Iike visiting in CT during summertime.
@@grandmajane2593 The heat and humidity definitely is an adjustment. Central air and working AC in your car are both a must!
:))))))))))
