You're very welcome. I recall your doing a video on the pitch accent of "particles" and some variations among (native) speakers with the standard Tokyo dialect. This is why I believe that
mastery of Japanese is harder (by far!) than that of Korean and Chinese (Mandarin) even though both these languages pose many irregular intricacies. The rules concerning pronunciation for Korean and Mandarin Chinese seem more finite. I feel I can say this since I am a linguist and have studied both.

Thank you for the visual (line with dots) of how the pitch tracks differently between the two words. It's not just useful for our own pronounciation. It helps a lot to train the ears to parse the difference hearing *others* speak the words we're practicing when we can follow along with our eyes (which of course does circle back around to helping us speak more clearly and correctly ourselves, lol). I wish so much that more language teachers/tutors did that simple trick!

Hello. Thank you for this video. I was thinking about the following: うどんや LHHH ほんや HLL そばや LHL It's interesting how the pitch differs for the last two words since both without や are HL Definitely the second mora in "book" acts differently.

      ほん HL
      そば HL
      うどん LHH
      そばchanges its pitch with や.
      It's interesting.

True story: Last Sunday I experienced 0:31. So I learned some new kanji on Monday: 根管治療 😂

Hi, again. I have a theory: The suffix-like や as in 本屋 attracts a HIGH pitch right before it when words are not HEIBAN. {PITCH-ATTRACTING SUFFIX} So, in うどん屋, it stays HIGH/flat since "udon" is Heiban.
そば is HL (not Heiban). When "ya" attaches, high pitch will appear right on the preceding mora. However, "n" is not strong enough to have HIGH pitch, so the HIGH pitch stays on the first mora, ほ in 本屋。
Compare かえる= 帰る where high pitch remains on "ka" since the mora "e" is not strong enough to receive HIGH pitch. ....just some thoughts...
