    Amazing you’re the only one that starts from a dark base coat. I got spread my marines black and then decided I wanted to do white Templars.

I use german camo brown for some years now(before it had this name it had a more*german ww2 inspired name*). I really like to use it in combination with vmc london grey. They work really great together and its a nice way to paint grey uniforms with a light brown touch.

  • @Wijkert

    6:36 Used to happen to me also. My conclusion is that it was caused by overthinning as well. I think it it caused by the medium being too spread out. I don't think cheaper oils have less medium in them, just more filler, so as long as you keep the ratio of thinner/medium low enough, you should not experience this issue.

    Great video, thanks guys. I am using this color scheme and need some help though. I have my WS models done until the end of all the airbrush work and successfully applied decals, all looks great, but no matter what oil product I use (tried Winsor and Newton, different AK interactive ones, Abteilung 502) and no matter if I apply gloss varnish via airbrush first or not, the oils always stain the white surface too much so it looks no longer white even after a throrough cleanup with q-tip and brush. Any suggestions? It's really frustating since I have 3500P sitting at that stage. So, you apply the oil very thin and let it dry without using any cleanup, correct?

    • @cultofpaint
      @cultofpaint  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, I'm sorry i don't really know what to suggest. As i say in the video i go back and do a couple of washes if I need to, clean off any obvious tide marks etc. I find that by using that consistency you see in the video that I can have the armour retain the white colour that i like.

    @cult of paint: I have a question for you: in your previous videos, you inspired me to give Tamiya a try (specifically their flat white). However, even when using their thinner, the finish I got was pretty glossy for a paint called "flat", and... i dunno, tacky almost? Have you ever had these issues, and if so, how did you rectify it?

    Hey Henry, great video as always, looking forward to doing my own Heresy models soon. A question around your choice of colour before moving up to white if you don't mind. Did you choose the grey brown to match up with other colours you were putting on the model later, or was it just a case of let's do another way of painting white armour? I'm just curious how you think about choosing colours, as compared to an earlier video on World Eaters for example, the colour below white was much more grey. The only thing that came to mind was the greyer World Eater later then had more blue on it and this warmer grey brown White Scar later had red on it. Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much 😂

    So here is a question I have been asking without response with regards to weathering/wear and tear on space marine armour. You do chipping in this video on the model to represent rust. Now the question I have is that the lore for Space Marines does not support rusty armour. Why, because there is no metal in Space Marine armour. The suites are made of Ceramite, a ceramic, plastic & concrete type mixture. No metal to oxidize. So do you do rust chipping because you don't care for the lore or because you are ignorant of it?
