Thank you so much. My plants are almost two years old and looks beautiful but so far, no flowers or fruit. I will try tipping. I already give them flowering fertilizer.
Question. First time grower here. If you put new cutting into the potting, no roots yet, is it good to use hydroponics grow fertilizer now or should I wait til they rooted??
Whats the heat over at your place like? I'm going to put my dragon fruit plants in full sun but i'm waiting for the heat to die down for them to adjust to it better. I'm worried though when next summer comes because I live in Arizona and during the peak of the summer we have over 100 degree heat for hours every day for weeks. Do you think they'd be able to handle it??
Try watering them and mulch the top soil. If your soil is well draining enough it doesn't matter. I live in the tropics with hot humid days (afternoon temperatures of 35 degrees celsius with 85% or more humidity under the Sun) and heavy thunderstorms during the monsoon season, and my dragonfruit plants are doing well in their pots exposed to the elements. I use a mix of fertilizer pellets and homemade vermicompost as fertilizer and I mulch the soil with coconut husk chips.
@@Randi-h5q Thanks for the tip I will try 👍 I been watering well enough but it seems that water is not the problem I was hoping to hear something diferent so thank you I will try mulch and good fertilizers, but I'm gorry to burn my plants because is been hot here.
I would suggest to use Floranova bloom because it is still dragon fruit season and these months that they like to flower. It starts from may-September. Floranova bloom will help it induce some buds. I use 1.5tsp per gallon of water.
Hi Richard, thanks for the tips. You mentioned using buds and blooms every two weeks after enough buds, for how long do we continue using buds and blooms? Thanks!
You can use this all the way until you harvest your very last dragon fruit for the season! Usually once dragon fruit season is over, I’ll switch over to all purpose fertilizer to maintain its health.
I used the fox farm big bloom and my dragon fruit started growing a lot of buds on single branches. Not sure if I should start taking some buds off at this point

Oh that’s good to know! Because I have a minature dragon fruit plant and it says, “the cactus that doesn’t bite” lol The other ones that I have are from a yellow dragon fruit from the grocery store, that I grew from a seed. That yellow dragon fruit was so good and sweet!

@@technoraptor7778 thanks for the info I bought it bc they told me it tasted kinda like grape haha and didn’t do research … what best tasting & self fertile variant do you recommend? Much appreciated!
Thanks for the tips. There’s nothing wrong with using synthetic fertilizer. The plants can’t tell the difference between synthetic and organic. All it see is n.p.k and minerals. The only difference is organic feeds the soil microbes which feeds the plant and synthetics is like instant steroids for the plants which is instantly available. Anyways. Thanks for all the top notch info on growing dragon fruit
I was so excited that my dragon fruit finally bloomed about a week ago. I went out to hand pollinate them, but I don't think it worked because all of the flowers (which were so beautiful) turned yellow and dropped off. I was so sad it happened, but that's life!
As you I don`t care anymore if people become aggressive and or call me cheater. From Orchids to Monster Physalis or Passion fruit vines: Just use the Marry-Don`t-You-Anna fertilizer your local hippie uses for flower induction and mass production. Of course adjust the amount of fertilizer for the specific plant. But underground or mass production - some things work because of physics, chemistry, biology and more. Just because one does not understand it, IT STILL WORKS. And plants love THEIR food.
Way to say it! I just got to a point where I’m like well, it works well here for me and I’m getting results but it doesn’t matter to me if you use it or believe it. Im happy with my bountiful harvest every oh so short season by maximizing its potential. 😁

When do you start using flora blooms?
Few weeks before the season starts
In areas where it required to use a greenhouse, due to cold weather, could you still get fruit while keeping the plant smaller?
Yes it’s still possible.

We're usually between low mid 70s-high 80s on average during the year
You would have to use a lot of 30% shade to help tame the heat
It works magnificent i have about 30 flowers and only my second year with darkstar. It has buds everywhere!!!!
Nice!!! I'm sure you're super excited
Should i place it in full sun if we have 100 plus degree weather all summer?
Depending on the variety, but you may want to add in 30% shade to it

It will only grow bud one time in each node
